This shelf looks great after put together. However there were a few problems: It did have a small area on one of the shelves in the front that is roughed up and gray paint is gone. Also, the bottom shelf does have a hairline fracture in it all the way, but we applied glue and hope will be strong enough. And finally when putting in one of the screws, it split, which was no fault of ours. To fix that we just applied the screw over about 1 1/2 inch. I think this is a great quality product, especially for the price point. It’s actually real wood and it was easy to put together. I purchased one of these shelves a few years ago. I loved it so much I decided to buy another. While the shelf is beautiful and well made with real heavy wood, it is difficult to assemble. The instructions are not great and the Allen bolts are difficult to completely get into the shelf. Other than the assembly, I absolutely love it and am glad I have 2 of them. ... show more

For the price, DEFINITELY worth it! Beautifully made with real wood and not super hard to install (almost an hour alone). The back metal X is optional if you don't like that. I've had this for a few days but I'm sure will last a long time

Overall, these shelving units have great potential. I purchased two, and when it goes well, it's a very solid product (one went well). When others say "real wood", they mean it, not press board, but solid pine for all the wood pieces. It's also a bit darker grey than the pictures indicate, which I find to be a plus. While it takes time and effort to assemble, it goes together smartly and the directions are more than adequate. I solo-assembled both of them, and I'm a 5'2", 130#, 50-year old female. A rachet manual tool would be advisable rather than the included Allen wrench given the number of bolts and their length, if you want to maintain your sanity and finger tips. Now the bads: 1. both glue packets were essentially silly-putty. I put a little ball of it in each of the dowel holes and hoped for the best. 2. While most holes were drilled adequately and lined up, there were two on each that had not been drilled, and given the size of the bolts, you would definitely need a drill to make it work. Also, the holes for the metal pieces on back were not drilled in the right places for the small screws in the middle, but those can be manually screwed in pretty easily w/o holes drilled. 3. I was missing four long bolts; I've contacted customer service and am awaiting a reply - we'll see how it goes. 4. One of my shelf boards split when screwing in one of the bolts. Also waiting on customer service's response. (It's only been minutes, so not trying to imply they are delayed, and it's Saturday). In summary, given the good price on Amazon, their size and general quality, I would recommend these shelves, with some relatively minor but not inconsequential reservations. ... show more
