I didn't put these on a scale, but the weight feels about right. They feel absolutely amazing in the hand. I hold near the back of the shaft and it provides a great grip. These are made very well! There are no sharp burs on the metal and I was able to swap the tips with steel tips to change things up. They fly straight, although I'm not a fan of the included flights. These don't open all the way. I prefer flights that open fully to a cross vs more of an X-Wing type like these. The fact that you get two sets of shafts, flights, tips and the case all included, I think this is a great value for the money spent. If you like the style of the barrel, go ahead and buy these. I love mine. I probably would have gone a bit heavier (I got the 18oz), but they only had the 18oz in the barrel style I liked. The only issue I could find with these is the latch that holds the spare tips/flights/shafts in the case. I found it to be a bit small and pretty easy to open. I thought it would be a problem when I took these for a tournament, but I didn't have any issues and the case held everything just fine. Four stars for a great product, I just think this may become an issue in the future with more use. ... show more

    • The Ideal Darts For a Beginner Like Me

I have always enjoyed playing pool, table shuffleboard, and darts whenever I go to a bar. I have always just casually played, and never really had a lot of interest in playing these games outside of a bar setting. Recently though a friend of mine that I play softball with invited me over to his house to watch a few games of basketball in his basement with him. While we were there drinking a couple of adult beverages and watching sports, I noticed he had an electronic dart board set up. When the game we were watching went to halftime, we decided to throw some darts. The only thing I even really knew about darts was that the objective is to reach zero as far as scoring. Other than that I just knew to try and get bulls eyes. After pretty much ignoring the rest of that basketball game and the next one, I grew to really really like playing darts. I am still learning strategy and getting more familiar with the rules every time I play. It was at that moment that I decided I wanted to buy my own darts and to try and get better at playing the game. I really liked the darts I was using at my buddies’ house so I asked him what kind they were and told me they were called ‘Viper Shot King’ darts. Naturally I went online and looked to see what I needed to consider when purchasing darts. I wanted some darts that were rated good for beginners, but did not want ‘bottom of the barrel’. After looking around for a bit, I decided on the Viper Shot King soft tip darts. Since I will primarily be playing on electronic boards, I wanted to be sure to stay under 20 grams of weight, as being under 20 grams will ensure that the darts will not damage the board, and that the darts will remain stable while in flight. Next I had to choose between brass or tungsten barrels. Apparently the tungsten barrels are denser and thinner than brass, allowing for the darts to land closer together on the board. Next was deciding what tip size to select. I went with the 2BA threads because they are the easiest ones to replace broken points on. These Viper Shot King darts seem to be the ideal dart for beginners like myself. The set contains everything needed for repairing broken tips. Plus these are 20 grams, which is the ideal weight of darts to have stable flight and to have minimal risk of damaging the board itself. Finally, the case these darts come in is very nice looking. With this case, you can store your fully assembled darts, plus all of the spare parts. These darts are a great value at the regular price of $67, but if your timing is right you can perhaps get them as low as $55! They look good, and all of the colors are awesome. I went with the black and silver ones, but you really can’t go wrong with the red, purple, blue, or the silver on silver. If I start to become more competitive, I will be returning to the Viper store to upgrade my equipment when needed. They have everything you need for beginner level all the way to expert level. I am highly satisfied with the purchase, and would recommend these to anyone who enjoys playing darts, and wants their own equipment. I have been using these soft tip darts on my electronic board and they immediately felt like a real upgrade over the flimsy starter set that came with the board. The metal barrels have a grippy texture that lets me hold a steady aim without feeling like the dart is going to slide out of my fingers, and the overall weight feels nicely balanced from the tip to the flights. In person the black shafts and dark patterned flights look sharp and a little intimidating in a fun way, and the tips have been sticking into the segments very reliably with far fewer bounce outs than my cheap set ever managed. I also appreciate that the tips and shafts can be swapped out, so if something eventually bends or breaks I can keep these in service instead of tossing the whole thing. My favorite part, oddly enough, is the case that the three darts come in, because it keeps everything fully assembled and tucked away instead of rattling around in a drawer or getting lost in the couch. The case feels solid, opens easily, and makes it simple to grab the darts, play a few games, and put them back when I am done, and that has already saved me from stepping on a loose soft tip more than once. When I hold one of these darts in my hand, like in the attached photo, it feels like an actual piece of decent sports gear rather than a toy, and that little difference makes throwing them more enjoyable and just a bit more exciting. For anyone who has been making do with whatever came in the box with their board, these have made my casual games more consistent and a lot more fun, even if my friends still insist the board is crooked whenever I hit the bullseye too often. ... show more

I added a dartboard to my pool room and quickly came to despise the included darts. These are pretty much the opposite of the freebies I had before. They're easy to grip and have a pleasant weight / heft in the hand. They're balanced and feel like they throw smoother. Every part is high quality and they assemble tightly.
