I saw this necklace and thought it would be fun and too cute for for my daughter who plays violin. The necklace pendent is about 1.5 inch tall by .5 inch wide. It looks just like a violin with the bow going across. The pendent and the chain are made of brass, but looks gold. The pendent also has strategically placed rhinestone embellishments. The chain is adjustable and can hang to about 16 inches. As far as costume jewelry goes, the necklace is made well. However, it is kinda cheap. Especially the chain. It reminds me of a bauble I would see at my fav deep discount store. Not necessarily a bad thing. Cheap costume jewelry can be real fun to wear. And this necklace is very charming. You don't have to play the violin to wear this. I love classical music and this is perfect. This piece is so much more beautiful in person. As with most necklaces, they come too short for me, but having the extension helps a great deal. The size of the pendant is perfect and the finish shines. This is, as others have said, not fine jewelry, but it's a lovely sparkly gift for a young violinist -- perhaps after a special recital or competition. I thought the "inspirational quote" was tacky, and chucked it out of the box in favor of a piece of pastel tissue paper. The chain is not as nice as the charm, so I'd swap it out for something else, whether a metal chain or a silk jewelry cord. This necklace is beautiful! I'm so impressed with the quality. From the pendant, to the chain, to the clasp, it's all top notch. The gold finish, for starters, is a really nice yellowy gold that is shiny and expensive looking. The pendant is a little bigger than what is typically worn, but I figured this would be a great "special occasion piece" and I couldn't resist the elegant craftsmanship. The violin is so detailed and the diamonds are sparkly without being gaudy. My daughter plays violin and absolutely loves it, so that's why I was drawn to this particular pendant.
