I have no clue how to play a violin, but this does help knowing there are affordable options to at least try and test it out. When I did have it set up, it took me a while to get the technique down to actually get a decent sound. Now, all I need to do is make sure its tuned.

In my opinion, this is a very basic beginner violin that comes with a lot for your money's worth. The case is a fabric exterior with a well-designed interior to protect the violin. This is really good with how the box was tossed around a lot in shipping. If you are new to violins, I highly recommend you watch some videos and tutorials online to help you insert the bridge and set up/tune your violin. When you're ready to rosin your bow, you will need to rough up the rosin as the rosin that arrives in the case is very hard and will not transfer to your bow without preparation. Also, if you are a beginner, you may be confused by the lack of stain or finish on the back side of the neck on the violin. This is designed specifically to prevent the finish from making the neck sticky during play, which would hinder the player. This set truly gives you everything you need to get started. When you've tuned your violin and are ready to play, you will have a beautifully sounding instrument. My main reason for taking away a star on this review is for a few quality issues I noted. There is some damage to the top scroll area of the violin, and the bow arrived with a hair broken which took a bit to trim nicely to keep the integrity of the bow for playing. Additionally, when I opened the case for the first time, the entire package had a distasteful smell that turned me off. I let everything air out for a few days before I attempted to set up the violin. ... show more
