  • Good pads
Style: Mute Prepack
The pads are great in good condition but WAS NOT happy bout the package condition, had about 5 different shipping labels pasted & ripped off all over, box was smashed, almost sent it back without opening it..! Luckily the pads were fine, in good shape and quality was good.

  • ... would let me play quietly but would still react like a normal drum head
Style: Mute Prepack
I was looking for something that would let me play quietly but would still react like a normal drum head. I had been using an electronic kit but those pads don't have the same response both in feel and sound. These drum mutes do a great job of retaining the feel of a drum head and producing the rebound and response to make sure I'm practicing correctly. They mute the drum sufficiently in my situation. I live in a row house, so vibration and noise from the floor isn't an issue. ... show more

  • Some things I liked better about the DW set
Style: Mute Prepack
I bought these and the DW Drum Workshop Complete Deadhead Pad Set at the same time. Some things I liked better about the DW set, but this is the set I kept. The two sets approach muting differently, the Vic Firth (and also Evans SoundOff mutes) are floppy sponge-rubber pads and the DW ones are dense rubber on wood. The DW set was like placing practice pads on each tom. You'd get no tom sound, but instead get a lot of stick noise (similar to playing electronic drum set pads). The Vic Firth pads are softer and you get no stick noise, but you do get a little tom sound. I liked this better because it was a little more musical and the volume difference between the two were negligible. The Vic Firth pads are softer and have less bounce than the DW pads, which are very responsive and fun to play on in their own right, I already had a practice pad, though. The Vic Firth cymbal mutes are the same rubber as the tom mutes and work OK. I liked the DW cymbal mutes better, thought, they were a little larger, and two were foam rubber, and then the high hat was a thin hard rubber and was a two piece design (one round piece to mute between the hats, which Vic Firth lacks). At this point, I was leaning towards the Vic Firths, and the Bass drum mute sealed the deal. Vic Firth's attaches with a little piece of Velcro (I added two more little strips to keep it in place better, but no big deal). It is thick foam with a foam-rubber pad in the center where the beater hits. It's easy to take off and put on, and does a decent job of muting the kick (especially if you pack the bass drum with a pillow). It's still a bit louder than I'd like, so I might look for another option. The DW bass mute was a thin piece of wood with some foam and rubber pieces. It attached with some clamps that were not very intuitive and didn't hold things in place very well. Over time, I felt like they would damage the finish on the hoop as well. Over-all, I'm satisfied with these, but I docked a star for the bass drum mute, hoping they can find a solution to reduce a little more volume. Additionally, I'm not sure how long they will last. My guess is not as long as the DW pads. ... show more

  • ... are just big mouse pads" and yeah - they pretty much are
Style: Mute Prepack
I thought "those are just big mouse pads" and yeah - they pretty much are, but they so do exactly what they say - I can now play and practice during the day in my apartment without the cops showing up. LOL - I still wouldn't use them at night though, b/c the kick drum is still a little loud and vibrations through the floor and all that - but during the day I can go nuts. Great product. Worth every penny imho. ... show more

  • Glue on kick pad gives out quickly
Style: Mute Prepack
I bought these after i lost my practice space. Most pads are made of the same material so i figured Vic Firth, normally a reputable company, would be a good high quality go to. These are cheap, which i wouldn't mind so much because they're just pads, but having the bass drum pad unglue itself from the 22" foam pad in just over 30 days is just poor craftsmanship. I wouldn't recommend this product unless you want to have to re-glue, which is hard when the original glue is hardened on both the foam and kick pad, or replace. For $80 it seems way over priced. They play fine and subdue the sound pretty well. ... show more

  • Went Through Flood and Still Sounds Great
Style: Mute Prepack
Recently we were hit by Hurricane Ida and my kit was completely submerged. However, Vic Firth managed to keep their material from changing in sound. Cleaned and dried them out and they still work amazing. Buying more of these.

  • They smell very chemically, stained my cymbals
Style: Mute Prepack
They quiet the drums, so that’s cool. Bass drum pad doesn’t stay by itself. Had to get some velcrow tape to get it to stay put. They have a powerful chemical smell. Pretty bad. If in my house I don’t think I could handle it, but my drums are in garage so I guess I’ll deal with it, maybe will disipate over time? Worst part is they leave a black stain residue on my cymbals. I had to polish them to get it most of it off….moving forward I won’t leave them on the cymbal when not in use, only while using them, then remove. ... show more
