  • Fantastic for what it does, but you have to understand what it does.
The product description is kind of confusing. This does NOT fill clear coat scratches. You need something else for that. That this does is basically melt surrounding clear coat into surface scratches-and it does that really, really well. I was very surprised how well it worked on wheel rash, and basically wiped off 240 grit scratches no problem. However, if you have actually gouges or scratches in the clearcoat that you can feel with a thumbnail, this will not fill or cover it. You need an actual clear coat pen for that. ... show more

  • does not work well
I have 1 rock paint chip and 1 door ding. Very light but visible when look close. I put some water on it and it was able to cover and not visible. I know it is clear coat chip. I followed the instruction, Also cleaned the clear coat chips with alcohol first. Applied the Duplicolor clear coat to 2 small chipped spots. I waited over night. It dried and covered ok and almost disappeared. Both clear coat chips still a little visible. So, I use light polish wax and try to smooth out the surface. Guess what, the polishing wax took the clear coat I applied right off both paint chips I applied to and both chips are clear visible again. I thought I may not follow the instruction to the T. I tried again and same thing happened again. I am guessing may be 2 issues. 1 This is a very soft clear coat. It will get polished off by any polish. But it should still leave a layer clear coat in the chip. 2 The clear coat does not like any solvent used in the polishing wax. I tried to apply it on a glass surface. wait it to dry. Then use 70% alcohol to wipe it off. After 30 sec, it was dissolved and wiped clean. If you are not going to use any solvent cleaning product, it may stay. I will not buy again. ... show more

  • For fine detail work, good price.
This "Clear Coat" pen is for fine detail work, the ONLY dispenser is a hard foam type of chisel tip. NO BRUSH. I used it on the rim of a Tesla Model 3 Aero wheel that I had retouched after scuffing on a curb. The clear coat was to seal the retouch after using a factory color. (Dark Grey) I also used it on a small fine scratch on one of the rim spokes. Again, this touch up pen is NOT for heavy needs. I will probably go back and add a second coat to some of the rim edges that had deeper scratches from scuffing on a curb when parking. Takes a bit of "plunging" the tip to get the chisel tip dispenser to load, read the package directions. ... show more

  • Not clear coat paint; very poor applicator.
This is not a clear coat paint pen. It's a sealant that coats and blends into existing paint. My car is blue and blue started appearing on the felt tip. Overall, it's a bad product. Not only it's just a sealant, but also, the flow through the felt is not fast enough for a smooth coat. No matter how many times I press down on the felt tip to get it wet, after about a quarter of an inch, the felt is dry and it just smudges the sealant onto surface and it looks really bad. ... show more

  • Completely unnecessary !
I recently bought this item and the actual paint pen for my car since I noticed I got a scratch on my hood from rocks on the freeway. On the the side of the scratch where I applied this product before the actual paint pen you can clearly notice it, it dries almost like crazy glue does. However, on the side where I did not apply this product before the paint pen the scratch is virtually invisible. I asked my dealership if it was necessary to apply this before the paint pen and they said NO, the paint from the paint pen seals the scratch. I wish I would have not used it or bought all together ! ... show more

  • A Reasonable Remediation for Typical Scratches
The scratch sealer does a pretty nice job helping to cover scratches. It can help on real gouges, but cannot replace the lost paint. I feel like the scratches have been reasonably handled and the car is protected from potential corrosion and increased damage to the affected areas. I would get this - very easy to use and better than the "as seen on TV" version of several years ago, which did next to nothing. It's priced correctly as well. ... show more

  • scratch too deep
for the most part the product seems ok, scratch on my car was just too deep for this to work. car got keyed and in some places it was just a slight scratch almost not noticeable unless looking from specific angel, so for those it worked well-as for those scenarios it probably deserves a 5 star, just did not work as I expected. my poor car.....dang people who do this to someone's property tho ... show more
