My granddaughter is an engineer at just under 4 years old. She just loves to assemble things. So we've gotten her all sort of these sorts of toys, e.g. foam blocks and such. What is so great about this set is that there is no end to what their imaginations can create. Although it is really nice that included is a "cheat sheet" of designs for us to build. This set includes 48 corners or joints (balls) and 96 rods which is more than enough to build a fort, a castle, even an igloo! I really like how simple they are to put together, many are not, with too many different parts. This set has two, so the child does not get overwhelmed. Her grandmother says that she has something like this at home but this one is better because it's easier to assemble. I also like that it comes with a storage bag so a little discipline can be taught by picking up and putting back when we're done playing. To be honest, I do not have any input from her yet as it is a surprise for her next visit. But I can assure you that she will be thrilled with this set. Wait till she finds out the rods glow in the dark. With a blanket cover the giggles will not cease. As a grandparent or parent, you have to love the price, too.
