    • Beautiful, sturdy backpack
Vera Bradley is usually my go-to for quality-made travel bags, and this backpack is no exception. I purchased the black bandana medallion pattern, which is just gorgeous but also subtle. I am not in school but I used this bag for international travel. It fit perfectly underneath the airplane seat. The straps are very comfortable and I wore this backpack while hiking around for hours without any discomfort. Another nice feature is the trolley sleeve in the back, so it fits on top of your rolling luggage. The main caveats are that the laptop compartment in the back fits a 15 inch laptop, but my work laptop is a 17 inch so it fits in the front-most pocket which is actually a larger pocket. This doesn't bother me that much however. After my travels, the bag did get a bit dingy on the white color, so I threw it in the washing machine on delicate cycle (inside of a mesh bag) and then hung it to air dry. There were no issues after washing it and it is very clean again! In terms of capacity and organization, the front zipper pockets are very useful for keeping smaller items like charging cables, tissues, etc. It also has two water bottle pockets on the sides. I love this backpack. It is very durable and will hold well when traveling. It is not a featherweight item, and weighs about 2 pounds. It works as it has a back slip so that it can be attached to my luggage making traveling easier for me. The larger compartment in the front that will fit an Ipad and has slots for pens, note pads and passport. The inside has two mesh slots where you can also fit passports, Jewelry etc. There is a side compartment, with compartments on either side for a water bottle. It will fit a one liter water bottle. I had the same Vera Bradley Campus Backpack that lasted with me for 15+ years. It wasn’t treated as kindly as it should have, but kept on keeping on. It just finally became threadbare on the bottom. I tried a couple other backpacks thinking they’d look more professional and have more thoughtful pockets/features. Each was a big ol’ nope. So, of course I went back to the tried and true Vera Bradley Campus! The new one is nearly identical with a few improvements. My favorite improvement is a pocket on the back that zipped to keep a wallet, passport, or other valuable safe from any potential pick pocket activity. I also love the mesh pocket on the interior to keep commonly reached for items easy to get. I also love the front pocket that has space for an ID, pens, and other small items. The side pockets for bottles are deep enough and easily fit my most used in there, such as Owala, Contigo, Yeti. I prefer the quilted version and am excited they only improved upon the one I had and loved for so many years! ... show more

I bought and returned 4 or 5 backpacks prior to an 8 day trip to The UK and France, but this backpack ended my search for the ideal travel backpack. In addition to needing a somewhat roomy carry-on backpack, I knew I'd be away from my hotels for many hours at a time and I wanted to have easy access to plenty of water, snacks, back-up phone chargers, light layers, etc. However, I also wanted something that wasn't huge and didn't look entirely like piece of luggage. This fit the bill (*almost) perfectly. (*The ONLY thing I would change is that it would be water-resistant). The shoulder straps are so comfortable. I carried this backpack pretty much all day, every day for 8 days, + about 24 additional hours in the airports. It was always full, but the weight was evenly distributed and the straps are perfectly padded...not too bulky. I didn't bring my laptop, but the laptop pocket is very roomy. I used that pocket to keep passports and tickets safely against my back. There is also a smaller pocket up against my back that could be used for this purpose. It has a side zipper, but I think it would be very difficult to unzip without the wearer being aware of it. Its other pockets are extremely functional as well. The outside water bottle pockets were large enough to hold 20ounce bottles(with room to spare). There are also many interior pockets, both with and without zippers, to help keep your stuff organized. The quilting gives the backpack a bit more of a feminine look, but don't let that fool you. It is VERY durable. I had this sitting at my feet on trains, subways, airplanes, Ubers, taxis; at restaurants, train stations, airports, parks, museums and more. It was also shoved under seats and in overhead bins. It held up to all of that with no damage. It didn't even look at all dirty at the end of the trip. However, I knew it had to be filthy. I made sure all of the pockets were empty and unzipped, then I threw it in the washer. I washed it in cold water and hung it up to dry. It looks like new. I absolutely love this backpack and can't wait to take it on more adventures. Some reasons I returned other backpacks... #1 - Very small exterior bottle pockets...I hate putting more plastic in the environment and prefer to refill my own large(ish)water bottles. #2 - Uncomfortable straps. Some of the cuter packs have very thin shoulder straps. Those may look more like a purse, but are not good if you plan to carry the full pack for hours on end. #3 - No safety pocket up against your back. #4 - No strap to slip over rolling suitcase handle. #5 - Lots of flashy zippers. (to get an idea of it's size...I'm 5'5", 125 lbs) ... show more
