By some miraculous feat of genius the paint in this kit manages to be too thick & gloopy whilst at the same time transparent. An easy fix for the thickness is obvious but adding water makes it even more transparent, what to do? I took myself off to Michael's & purchased superior paint brushes as the ones included aren't of sufficient quality for a 5yr old. It helped a little, not much. Now I'm an expert paint-by-numberer, having completed thousands of these things in my childhood, so I speak with serious authority. Frustrated with the lack of "flow" from the paint, I began drawing on my expertise in this & home decorating & decided to "pounce" the paint onto the canvas a la stenciling. I realized I had rediscovered pointilism. It worked, but I think Seurat would have something to say about it, especially as these are Van Gogh's creations. Anyway, long story short; if you want to create a masterpiece to hang in your own hallowed hallways this is not the kit for you. If you have supreme patience, a steady hand, & are willing to fight with the paint then go for it. Considering the price it's good value, but I think the sellers should spring for real paintbrushes & quality control their acrylics. It would be nice if ALL the painting spaces had numbers too, take out some of the guesswork. ... show more

For those of us who like to paint and yet aren’t artists and love fantastical sets like these… great outcome but remember to relax and not rush it. Suggestion is to use magnifying glass and purchase additional fine brushes for those tiny spots. Highly recommend!

I’m an artist and I found this paint by numbers kit to be difficult to do. The issue is the sections are super tiny and difficult to see. I purchased this for my elderly aunt who likes to paint but she couldn’t see or follow the pattern. I found it hard as well.
