The shelf itself is pretty sturdy and pieces fit together almost perfectly so it was a good buy for the price at the time. I do have one concern that I was disappointed in but not enough to rerun. The color is off. Way off, much darker than the ones I purchased before. See photos. Other than the color I do recommend this item. Pros: Good value for price, sturdy, looks nice, holds a lot of weight, won't sag if completely filled with books Neutral: picture only instructions like Ikea, so be sure to pay attention to which way pieces face or you have to disassemble, but I was able to assemble it by myself Cons: Thee metal pieces don't perfectly align (see picture) and could snag on clothes or other items. The stickers to identify parts needed Goo Gone to completely remove which is super annoying. The anchor screws have to go directly into the top plank. It would be nicer and easier if predrilled holes existed. ... show more

Be careful with what you put on this shelf. I’m using it as a bookshelf and I have a few candles and small fake plants on it. Any small movement like a bump will make everything fall off because of its instability. I’ve even double checked the tightness of the screws and they’re as tight as can be. Adding a lip to the sides of the shelves would be beneficial or even lowering the bars on the side to help prevent things from sliding off the sides so easily. This unit was easy enough to assemble even though it was just photos not written instructions. HOWEVER,when assembling this unit, I discovered the pre drilled holes in the side pieces were drilled in the wrong spot, so two of the shelves wouldn't line up to the holes. At first I thought perhaps I had pierced the side pieces together incorrectly, I did not. I opted to just drill holes in the correct spot myself rather than dealing with calling the manufacturer to get a replacement, as Amazon wouldn't do a normal return on it. ... show more

Product arrived quickly with no damage to the box. Easy to assemble. As a stay at home Mom I was able to assemble this during the baby's nap time with my toddlers "help", took less than an hour. Would likely be quicker without my little helper. Looks great in our office. Love that it holds a decent amount of weight per shelf compared to others that we looked at. I was a bit disappointed in the quality of this item. For the price paid, I expected something more substantial. The screws were made from very soft metal as you insert them, you'll have a lot of filings coming off onto your bit - I had to clear them off after every 2-3 screws. Also, some of the screws (maybe 20%) did not "bite" properly and spun inside the fiberboard when fully inserted. I would have returned it but for two things: 1) I wouldn't have any idea how to get it back in the box and 2) it's only for basement storage of some old books, so I'll put up with it providing the 1/2 thick shelves don't collapse. However, if you're considering this item and expecting a nice piece of furniture, you too will likely be disappointed. ... show more
