I like my Vari desk a great deal. Being able to raise and lower the desk top is great. You can find the perfect height any time. It assembles fairly easily but will take a little time. The only downside is that the desk is very heavy. You assemble upside down, then have to flip the desk over. I recommend a second set of hands to do this. The material for the desktop and legs is of high quality. There was nothing about the desk that I thought felt cheap. I have used this for almost 5 years now, and it still looks as good as the day I assembled it. The motor still works flawlessly. Love, love ,love this desk. I have always bought desks with adjustable legs so that I can change the height sometimes but it was ALWAYS an inconvenience because it was all manual and had limitations. If you wanted to save money you couldn't go with electronic desks. After living with the pandemic for so long and having to spend many long shifts sitting at a desk TORTURING MY BACK I felt I owed myself a nice gift. This desk became the child I wished I had sooner. No more unloading the desk to change the leg height, no more buying junky cardboard or nifty adjustable stands for raising the monitors. Now I just press a button and the entire tabletop raises up and down flawlessly and quietly with everything on it. Having 4 buttons for memory settings is an added bonus of pure joy too! I don't think I will EVER go back to a regular desk for the rest of my remaining years. It's more expensive than a regular desk and not very portable in case you're the type that moves around a lot because it weighs well over 100 lbs. The bonus is the convenience factor of having the option to sit or stand while you work with no effort. Getting a cable management basket for underneath is also recommended too. I was worried about wires getting pinched when it would lower after having it raised up. The one that they sell wouldn't work with my current monitor attachment and so I opted for some cheapo brand. Plus I needed more than one basket and the tabletop only had pre-drilled holes for one of VARI's baskets in an already fixed location. Instead, I drilled holes for the cheapo baskets I bought and so far it works as a great alternative. If my set-up changes in the future to accommodate VARI'S basket, the original holes will be ready to go too. The desk was so simple to set up. No power tools needed. Everything slides and clicks in place and the provided screws plus allen wrenches they give you holds the pieces together solidly. The instructions aren't in some ancient language, either. Very simple to understand with added illustrations and the video on the website is great if you hate instructions like most of us guys. To be honest, I was more worried about the shipping of the item more than anything. Came in two boxes that were re-enforced with much protection and cushioning. First: yes, you will love this desk. Everything about it feels like high-end corporate-grade furniture - because it is. All the edges are rounded and the materials are absolutely solid and heavy. A word on that later. First, assembly: It literally could not have been any easier. Four bolts that are made of high-quality machine steel on each side, two hold the leg to the surface, two hold the feet to the legs. One of the big reasons I shelled out the bucks for this was the comments on how easy it was to assemble. Absolutely lived up to the promise. Second: Not injuring yourself while assembling or placing this terrific desk. It weighs something like 160 pounds. Get a friend, get someone, just to help you move it around. It's simply too heavy and unwieldy for one person to do - this is NOT cheap, fall-apart-in-six-months furniture, this is the kind that two burly installers set up in office buildings. Third: Take a few minutes to put your computer, monitor(s), keyboard where you think you'll like them, but don't cable them up yet. Think about different tasks you do - do you need room for a notepad, a book, that other laptop or tablet? Here comes the fun part. Raise the desk up near its maximum height. Do you have an office chair that adjusts in height a bit? I bet you do. Lower it a bit, and you now have the world's most comfortable mechanical creeper. Now, take a big ol 8 or 10 outlet power strip and use some double-sided hook and loop tape to put it close to the side where you'll plug into an outlet. Then start with the other things. That ugly docking station for the laptop. The power bricks for it, for your monitor, whatever. Fasten those things to the bottom of the surface, because now you can route all of those cables and they can stay neatly out of sight. Get yourself a roll of hook-and-loop cable fastener (a couple are included with the desk). I ended up with exactly two cables going from the desk to the wall - one for power, one for network (I also stuck an 8-port network switch to the bottom, they're cheap and you will be grateful NEVER HAVING TO LOOK AT A FLOOR COVERED WITH SPAGHETTI AGAIN. That's the unexpected benefit of this desk. I got back all of the floor area under it and next to it that used to have an ugly mass of HDMI, power, USB, and network cables. I wanted to knock off one star on cost just because it's not cheap. This is one of the most expensive desks on the market. But in the end, I really got what I paid for: No surprises at all, no shortcuts, no "hope you have a cabinet full of power tools". In 20 minutes, I went from two boxes to playing with the height. That fast. So yeah, it was a very expensive purchase, but I expect to get a lot of use out of it and I simply can't find anything to complain about. Legs and desktop ship separately: FedEx lost my first desktop and never alerted me that a second package (legs) had arrived, so I was lucky to find those in the mailroom before they were unduly taken. After the final shipping deadline was missed, I reached out to Vari (via Amazon) and received a reshipment in less than 48 hours. I had planned to assemble this by myself: I would urge similarly minded readers to reconsider. The design and build are great: it's trivial to get all of the pieces together. The desktop itself is VERY solid and has the metal bracketing already attached: it's somewhere in the vicinity of 80 lbs., and it's a big rectangle with a bit of a plasticky surface. I was able to get the desktop out of the box (great packaging!!!), but then I found myself surrounded by the plastic sheet that was covering the desktop, fighting both to keep the slab from falling onto anything as well as to keep myself from slipping on this wonderful new working surface. The plan had been to gingerly lower the desktop onto the assembled legs, but there was no having that. I was worried about torque: I was worried that, if I assembled the entire construction upside down (as per the instructions), while attempting to flip the desk by myself, I would allow too much force to be applied from a bad angle against some random juncture. I've done that before. It's haunted me for over a decade. I decided to attach one assembled leg while the desktop was upside down and then attempt to flip that partial assembly (fool that I was) and, again, lower the desktop onto the remaining leg. This dumpster fire of a plan was borne by all the ungrounded misgivings I had accumulated so far. After a few additional near death experiences, it dawned on me that no part of this construction had budged or shifted or even made a squeaky sound: maybe I should just follow the instructions. Flipping ~140 lbs. wasn't terribly easy, but I cleared plenty of space, spent a few minutes visualizing what could go _right_, and then committed to steady plan of attack. I'm not excited about what I surely put this construction through, but my earlier note remains: nothing budged or shifted, and nothing is squeaking. As loaded as I need (computers, monitors, peripherals) and at full height, the desk does not noticeably wobble. The surface has a finish that is very easy to clean and is also textured: it has a great feel and is significantly more matte than glossy (I didn't realize how much I need that change). The bracketing on the bottom of the desktop is very centralized, leaving lots of room for any under-desk mounting (e.g., power strips). ... show more

My chiropractor told me if I did not quit sitting for long periods of time that my sciatic nerve pain would become a permanent condition. I am a software developer stuck to a desk for 8 hours a day and that was a difficult thing to hear. So, I went looking for solutions and after several hours of research and reviewing more options than I can remember, I found this desk. I was hesitant to spend so much money when there were so many other less expensive options. However, I kept coming back to this one for several reasons. It was the right width and length to replace my existing desk, the style matched my office, the testimonial videos I watched on YouTube reassured me of the quality, and finally I found out a coworker had the exact same desk and they were above and beyond satisfied with it. I placed my order and a couple of days later it arrived, well packaged in 2 boxes. One for the table top and one for the legs, controls, etc. Assembly was minimal and very easy. You need 2 people to turn the desk upright and position it so don't try it by yourself or you risk injury. Now that it is setup, all I can say is that this desk is amazing. The look, the quality, the sturdiness and the smoothness of the height adjustment is flawless. There is absolutely nothing about this desk that I can criticize. It is heavy, built with solid steel legs, but that just makes it feel solid, like a real piece of fine furniture. I started a full-time work from home situation in February 2020. After recognizing that I needed a dedicated desk and putting it off for OVER A YEAR, I finally splurged and got this desk. It was the best decision I could have made. I've had this desk for almost 6 months and still I rank it as one of my top purchases ever. (I spend A LOT of time at my desk.) After looking at a bunch of desks, I decided on this one for a few reasons: • 30 day free returns - If I'm spending several hundred dollars, I want to make sure that I really get to try it out before I am stuck with a desk that I'll likely have for a decade or two • 5 year warranty - when I buy things, I buy them for the long haul. If this desk comes with a 5 year warranty, it gives me confidence that the manufacturer stands behind their product • American made - I've gotten burned by cheap Chinese knockoffs in the past. I could have saved a couple of hundred bucks up front, but then been stuck with a desk that stops working right after the 90 day warranty runs out (yeah, some of them only come with 90 day warranties!) Ok, on to the positives: • The desk is SOLID. Maybe I've just gotten used to cheap, light, modern furniture, but this desk has a heft that just screams QUALITY • Easy to assemble - I built it myself in about 30 minutes. • Reliable - yes, I've only had it 6 months, but I raise and lower it multiple times per day and it hasn't given me a single problem yet • Beautiful - I got the reclaimed wood finish. It looks gorgeous and fits perfectly with my office decor. There is ONE IMPORTANT THING you need to know before you get this desk: The "finish" is just a printed laminate that goes over some type of particleboard or plywood. The desk top itself is not actually "reclaimed wood" or whatever finish you are selecting when you order. Maybe this was obvious to some, but before I bought it, I wasn't sure. I know reclaimed wood is super expensive, so I kind of figured it couldn't be real reclaimed wood. But at the same time, there was nothing in the description that indicated this... so I was in suspense until the desk arrived. Why this is important: When you look at it close up, especially when it wraps around the corners, it's glaringly obvious that this is imitation wood grain and not a real finish. But apart from aesthetic reasons, if you want a smooth surface to write on, this is not your desk. The surface is ever so slightly imperfect (kind of imitating real wood grain), such that it will feel "gritty" when you write on it. If you are writing on a single sheet of paper, you may even see the "texture" of the desk surface come through in your writing. Not a deal killer for me, but I do wish I had known about it ahead of time. I don't write very much on my desk and I can just get a desk mat — problem solved. One other thing I just thought of... If you fold your legs when you sit, the bar that runs along the underside of the desk (providing structure to the desk and connecting the two legs to each other) could get in your way. It really depends on how you sit. Totally not a deal killer, but again, something you won't notice until you get the desk, so I figured I'd mention it. Those things said, I could not be happier with this desk. I absolutely love it, I spend 10 or more hours a day here and I'm able to sit at various heights, stand, squat and go from one to the other with total ease. Oh, speaking of squatting... For those of you into fitness, yoga, natural movement, etc... this desk goes so low that when I lower it to it's lowest setting, I can squat and use it without having to stand on any kind of riser. That's super important this day in age, since we as a society are starting to realize that "sitting is the new smoking" (Google it if you haven't heard of that before) ... show more

After more than a year of working from home, I finally decided to upgrade to a standing desk. I looked at a lot of different desks on Amazon and ultimately decided on this one despite it being the most expensive of the ones I considered. After several days of using this desk, I couldn't be happier with my decision to buy this desk. First of all, the assembly was very easy and straightforward - you do not need any additional tools to assemble, as everything is included. Some of the cheaper desks I considered had negative reviews about their vague instructions, and even having to drill new holes to properly assemble. But with this desk, the instructions were very clear. It was more difficult to organize the various cords on my electronic devices afterwards than it was to build this desk. (I also bought the Vari Cable Management Tray Accessory that is designed to go on this desk, which made the process a lot easier.) (I also want to note that the desk shipped in two separate packages, so don't be alarmed if you only receive the desktop or the legs. The other one should arrive shortly after.) Secondly, the desk itself is perfect. The desk is easy to raise or lower, and it's easy to program preset heights to more easily adjust the desk. The desktop is also very spacious. My old desk was a big smaller and constantly felt cramped, but with this desk I feel like I have plenty of space. Finally, you can really tell that Vari cares about the user experience. The desk came with several "extras" such as organizer ties for cords, a coaster, and hooks to attach on the side of the desk. These small touches made a big impression to me that they really put out a quality product. I didn't expect to receive any of these things with the desk, but have put all of them to good use. Overall, I'm very happy that I paid a little more to get an amazing desk instead of settling for a cheaper one. To me, the desk is completely worth the money. My only complaint is that the Vari Cable Management Tray Accessory that I purchased as an add-on was overpriced for what it was. I paid $50 for what was basically a tray that holds cords, which is useful (and ultimately I'm glad I bought it) but should have been no more than $35 at most. Despite this, I am very happy to have bought this desk. If you're on the fence about buying it, or are trying to decide between a few different standing desks - go with this one.
