  • It takes a while to set up
The media could not be loaded. It took me sooooo long to set this violin up, I was on the verge of giving up and giving it a 1 star review because I legit thought it was a toy being sold as an instrument. But after about 2 hours, I finally got it to produce some sound. The video included is from that breakthrough. The violin kit includes instructions. They're pretty basic, but they're just enough to get you started. After that, you can begin watching YouTube videos to take you to the next step. This is as 3/4 violin, which means it's it's 25% smaller than a standard violin. Tuning is rough, but it can be achieved, and tuning will be required each time you pull it out. I've played guitar and piano for years, but this is my first violin, and it's been a good beginner violin for me and my child to begin learning with. It still feels like a toy, but similar to the first act guitars, I think this is a good budget alternative for people that only want to learn the instrument, and not perform with it. The violin looks nice, and it's done a good job at convincing my friends that it's an actual music store instrument. This is probably best for people who are just beginning to learn the instrument. Those already familiar with the instrument are probably better off with another one. Note: IF you decide to try this violin out. Make sure you take the appropriate amount of time getting the resin onto the bow. It took me about 12 applications and probably about 10 minutes of of rubbing to finally get it working smoothly. This was my biggest frustration in getting the violin to produce sound. ... show more
