Description

Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil delivers superior engine protection by fighting the three major causes of engine stress: heat, deposits and wear. That's because SynPower is the only leading full synthetic formulated with more durable anti-wear additives that stay in the oil longer. When you want to keep your engine running its best, choose the ultimate protection found in Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic. Motor oil is made from crude oil and is used to lubricate, clean, and cool engines. Types of motor oil include conventional, synthetic, diesel, bio- based, hybrid (blends of conventional and synthetic), and recycled oils. Motor oil varies in weight and viscosity, as well as additives that some manufacturers add to the oil during the refining process. A numerical code system created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) grades motor oils according to viscosity--the higher the number between 0 and 60, the more viscous (thicker) the oil is. Most consumer motor oils are graded by two numbers, with the first number indicating cold weather (Winter or "W") performance.SAE 5W-30This oil has a weight of SAE 5W-30, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 5 in cold temperatures and a rating of 30 at normal operating temperature. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify that this is the correct weight of motor oil for your vehicle.Full Synthetic OilThis oil is a full synthetic oil, meaning crude oil is not used in making it. Synthetic oil can be used in vehicle engines instead of motor oils refined from crude oil, and often provides superior mechanical performance over traditional motor oil, including increased gas mileage and reduced engine wear at extreme temperatures. Its complex method of production means it can often cost more than conventional motor oil. That's because SynPower is the only leading full synthetic formulated with more durable anti-wear additives that stay in the oil longer. Premium chemistry and full synthetic base oils help SynPower deliver the ultimate protection against: • Heat - SynPower is formulated with full synthetic base oil and premium chemistry that stands-up to extreme temperatures. SynPower flows when the engine is cool, and maintains its protection barrier as engine temperatures rise. • Deposits - SynPower has extra detergents and dispersants to help prevent harmful build-up of sludge, varnish and other deposits in your engine. • Wear - With all the concern about lower zinc in motor oil, SynPower responded with advanced, more durable anti- wear additives that stay in the oil longer for outstanding protection against friction and wear. SynPower meets the performance requirements of most naturally aspirated, turbocharged and supercharged cars operating in North America. Frequently Asked Questions About Valvoline's SynPower How does SynPower compare to Mobil1 and Amsoil? Valvoline's SynPower motor oils meet and exceed the same specifications as these two products. SynPower motor oils are high performing, high-quality oils formulated with full synthetic base oils and top tier additives to provide an increased level of performance. All of Valvoline's SynPower motor oils are API licensed to ensure quality for North American vehicle application. We have specially designed SynPower 5w40 for application in high performance European or diesel passenger cars and this oil carries the specific OEM approvals such as Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Porsche and BMW. Our North American SynPower 5w20, 5w30 and 10w30 exceed ILSAC GF-4 requirements and carry the API starburst on the front label. SynPower is designed with extra levels of detergent and antioxidant to provide outstanding deposit and heat protection. Why are synthetic oils more expensive? Are they worth the extra cost? Synthetic oils are superior to conventional oils because they help maximize horsepower, improve gas mileage and provide a smoother, cooler operation for the engine, prolonging engine life. Many vehicle owners feel that the benefits of using a synthetic motor oil are worth the extra cost. How does Valvoline's SynPower formula protect against wear? SynPower full synthetic motor oil is formulated with a balance of high quality ingredients such as detergents, dispersants, antioxidants, friction modifiers, anti-wear additives and premium base oils that work together to provide exceptional protection against engine stress and wear. Valvoline's proprietary formulation includes special anti-wear chemistry. Valvoline's low impact ZDDP allows phosphorus in the anti-wear additive to stay in the oil longer than other leading synthetic motor oils. Phosphorous bonds to metal parts in the engine to form a "sacrificial" layer that helps protect against friction and metal wear in the engine. SynPower also uses premium detergents and dispersants that protect against deposits and sludge to keep engines clean. SynPower's premium full synthetic base oils and additives hold up to extreme temperatures to provide increased protection for your engine. Does using synthetic oil create more sludge? No. Synthetic oils do not increase the chance of sludge. Valvoline motor oils are 100% anti-sludge guaranteed. Does using synthetic oil cause my car to use more oil? No. Synthetic oils do not increase oil consumption. Valvoline's Engine Guarantee Programcan cover your engine if it fails Is SynPower covered by the Valvoline Engine Guarantee program? Yes. The Valvoline Engine Guarantee covers your engine if it fails, hassle free. If you have 125,000 miles or less, using Valvoline's SynPower can give you an engine guarantee up to 300,000 miles. Registration required, visitto learn more. Does using synthetic oil damage engine seals? No. Synthetic oils are perfectly safe for all rubber seals. I heard that synthetic oil is too thin for use in an older car and creates blow-by and burn-off. Is this true? This is only true if the blow-by problem exists prior to using a synthetic oil. If you have a leaking or blow-by problem, synthetic oils can make the issue worse, but they do not cause it to happen. Do I need to use a different type of oil filter with synthetic oil? No. You can use any type of oil filter with a synthetic oil. Are there certain types of vehicles that should not use synthetic motor oil (e.g., Mazda's)? Yes, there are certain engines (e.g., rotary engines) in which synthetic oils should not be used. Refer to your owner's manual for the appropriate motor oil recommendation. Are there any gas mileage advantages to using synthetic oil? Absolutely. Synthetic oils use higher quality friction modifiers to make the oil more slippery and stronger than conventional oils. This allows the engine to run easier and smoother, increasing gas mileage. What group of base oils is used in the formulation of SynPower? Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks. Does SynPower use polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stocks? Yes. Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks. Does SynPower protect engine seals or do I have to buy a higher-mileage motor oil to get that protection? SynPower does protect engine seals but in order to recondition older engine seals, high mileage oils are recommended. Is it safe to use SynPower in a motorcycle with a wet clutch? No. Valvoline SynPower oils are not approved for use with a wet clutch. Is SynPower compatible with other brands of synthetic motor oil or do I need to flush if I'm switching brands? Valvoline SynPower is compatible with other synthetic oils. See more

  • The best oil on the planet!
Style: 5W-30 Size: 5 QT
This stuff speaks for itself and does not require a review. Everyone has their own opinion about oil. I have been an ASE certified mechanic at a GM dealership for over 20 years. I will use no other oil in any of my vehicles other than the Valvoline full synthetic. I had a small fridge in my work area with a small freezer. I would keep a plastic shot glass with a cover. In one, conventional oil. In the other, Valvoline synthetic. I would show the customer the frozen oil. The conventional oil was like THICK honey. While the Valvoline still moved as if it was not cold at all. I use it in my lawn equipment and snowblower. Makes for easy starting of the snowblower in cold climate regions. ... show more

  • Great oil for the value!
Style: 0W-20 Size: 1 QT
I've been using Royal Purple all these years for my car and recently switched to Valvoline for the value. Plus my car was way over due for an oil change so I wanted to use cheap oil to flush out all the old gunk first. Well I have to say I may be sticking to Valvoline now! Heres why. First of all the oil is the standard oil color. Much easier to see when the oil starts to get dirty. With Royal Purple the oil is purple and hard to tell if the oil is getting dirty yet. It's always good to look at your engines oil to make sure nothing is wrong or failing. Second I notice I got better milage with Valvoline. I thought I was getting better milage with Royal Purple, but after my recent oily change I'm seeing slightly better milage. Nothing to brag about, but it is better. Not to mention my car is getting older and now has 70,000 miles. Usually as a car age the milage will decrease right? :) Last is the value. Royal Purple was some Premium oil and coat quite a bit for some purple oil. For the cost of Valvoline I can literally do 2-3 oil changes or the price compared to with Royal Purple. In the long run it adds up. ... show more

  • 0-16 What I need and hard to get.
Style: 0W-16 Size: 5 QT, Case of 3
I have a 2018 Toyota that requires 0-16 oil. Toyota understands that this is not always easy to get so the manual states that you can use 0-20 but you must go back to 0-16 ASAP. My local auto parts store sells it but the cost is... well... it's real money. Buying these in a box of 3 makes my DIY oil change worth doing and that I have the manufacture recommended oil on hand for every oil change. Note: We buy cars new and keep for 10 years. I don't do everything I'm supposed to but we still get good money on our used cars when we sell them. Keeping up with oil changes really helps make sure that the car lasts and is reliable when we go on road trips. That's right. We don't park our cars. We put on 12k - 20k miles per year. From average to above average mileage. ... show more

  • Very happy with this oil
Style: 0W-20 Size: 5 QT
My newer car (2016 Honda Accord) uses 0-20W oil and synthetic oil is a great option for it. I found this on Amazon and gave it a try. Valvoline has been around for decades and has been commonly used for racing engines as well. It seems to perform great in my V6 engine. On a recent trip the computer read out 35mpg which I have not experienced until recently. The oil comes in a convenient 5 qt. container which makes it so easy to add to the engine. I would recommend this to anyone who changes their own oil. ... show more

  • Buy it at Amazon and pay only labor
Style: 0W-20 Size: 5 QT
I'm writing the review while the oil and filter are replaced in my Honda Accord 2018. I'm doing the change in Advance Auto parts as I'm living in an apartment complex that doesn't allow me to do anything in the parking. Directly to the points: 1. Save money by buying the oil upfront. 2. Great brand. 3. Quality is top-notch as oil provide a smooth motor startup and operation. 4. Oil viscosity is maintained between changes which it's the critical aspect in operation. 5. Motor engine is kept internally clean thus provides a smooth ride and gas usage (less gas is required). Cons: 1. You need to plan your engine oil replacement. 2. The container is made of thin plastic. I guess is to be environmentally friendly, which that would be a plus but transit can impact the bottle and possible leaks can be expected. ... show more

  • Why Pay More For A Heavily Advertised Oil...
Style: 5W-20 Size: 5 QT
Once you make the jump to (so-called) Full Synthetic oil, there is no reason to pay for the highest priced product. This (Valvoline) is one of the highest rated motor oils on the 540rat website (clearly the best place to go for oil information) and when you factor in the price, its the best purchase out there (at this time). But just for the record, price matters... and if the price changes and another quality brand oil came out at a lower cost, i would move to that other oil. Again, once you move off of conventional oil, theres no reason to pay for the highest priced full-synthetic oil (which by the way, ALL full synthetics are really only about 5% synthetic and the other 95% is just highly refined group-3 oil). ... show more

  • A go to for all my oil changes!
Style: 5W-30 Size: 5 QT
This full synthetic oil is great, first the mileage you get with it far exceeds the given information provided, while I still typically don't go the full distance, I have experienced multiple times where I could have went 15,000-20,000 miles between oil changes and that is the vehicle telling me when to change the oil, recommendation from the bottle is 12,000, so you could easily get 3000 to 8000 additional miles likely even more depending on your driving methods and whether it is highway or city driving. The cost in comparison to others is typically inline and actually lower as you can find it on sale a good deal of the time, Valvoline is a household name, well respected in the racing industry and brand that stands behind their product so if you have questions, want details on how they test the product or need to get in touch with their customer service it is very easy go to their website and locate what you are looking for click it and you directed quickly and easily to whatever you need. The Container the oil comes in is great in addition to all of this with the way the spout is set it, it makes it super easy to pour without spilling or making a mess. I simply can't see justifying paying more for another product as the value and quality will simply not measure up. If you are on the fence give it a try you will not be disappointed that is for sure, simply great product from a great company! ... show more
