I love watches. This watch in particular, is one that has hardly left my wrist since I received it. It's a simple, tough, small, well-made watch that knows what it is: A field watch. It's easy to read, the lume is great, the watch is extremely comfortable, it slips under the cuff easily. While I love my mechanical watches, the quartz movement makes this a reliable every day watch which just goes with whatever outfit I am wearing. I often wear sport coats and slacks, suits, etc. and jeans an tee-shirts, and this watch can go with just about all of them. the build quality is superb. Sapphire crystal, good brushed stainless steel, excellent black finish on the dial, well-defined numbers... it's great. It's quartz as well. That means you can leave it off for several days and come back to it, without having to rewind and reset the time. It is also pretty damn accurate. extreme contrast watch face, easier to read at a quick glance than most all others (don't need my reading glasses to see, even in low light conditions). Costs a bit more than your average Timex or ... , but includes premium features normally only found in watches costing substantially more, such as stainless steel case, sapphire crystal that won't scratch, sealed screw down crown and sealed screw on back that makes this watch truly waterproof in real world situations. (actually guaranteed waterproof by the manufacturer). Although very attractive, I personally don't choose a watch as a piece of jewelry, but rather value real world functionality, build quality, and durability as my top priorities. Originally I wasn't at all familiar with with this manufacturer, (Vaer) but found extensive information, and reviews on line that led me to choose this watch from this company. I had never heard of VAER watches, but I was intrigued by some of the things the company claims so I got one to test it out. First of all, these are made to be water resistant and to be worn on seawater. I have a salt water pool & we use it 4-5 times a week for exercise and relaxing. It's not sea water and I am three hours from the ocean so the pool will have to be my test lab. Second the crystal is said to be scratch-resistant and I am hard on watches for some reason. I'll find out. It has two quick change straps and and both are said to be able to stand up to salt water. I am using the one that was on the watch when I got it and will use the other one later on. The little pins that hold the straps on are very easy to manipulate and are a big improvement over straps from the past that required tools or a visit to the jeweler to get off and back on. My only complaint is a minor one. The numbers are supposed to be visible in the dark but they have to be exposed to sunlight during the day to energize the coating. It's winter & I wear long sleeves now so the watch does not get much exposure to light. I am trying to change that but I have to think about it or the watch is under cover for most of the day. It does show up in the dark but it's not as vivid as I like. I will have to mess around with this function to see if I can get it working better. This is why I gave it four stars but that may change. This model is sold at a decent price. I have had expensive watches before but they have tended to break or need service more than they should. About 20 years ago I went to the cheapest Timex I could find and wear them until they die. Then I get a new one. This is a test to see how much I like a better quality watch that is not hundreds of dollars. The watch looks good, was easy to set, easy to read, and comfortable to wear. I’ve been eyeing Vaer for 2 years and though I was initially considering a divers watch, I finally decided to save the money and pull the trigger on the S5 Tactical Field. Let me tell you, I love this watch! My wrist is 7 inches and was worried that 40mm would be too large, but it turned out to be perfect for me. The rubber strap is crazy soft and really comfortable. The watch is stealthy and rugged, yet classy. And let’s not forget the Lume; It’s super bright when exposed to daylight or a flashlight but it doesn’t last very long. I exposed it to a flashlight around 10pm and by 2:30am it was barely visible in pitch black. It may have lasted longer if I exposed it longer or used a brighter source, though. But honestly, if you’re looking for a watch that you can read in complete darkness, I’d recommend opting for something with a backlight. Other than that, The Vaer Tactical is everything I hoped it would be. ... show more
