  • Good for variable-depth CNC engraving
Size: 1/4 SHK
The software that comes with my Shapeoko CNC machine allows for engraving text with V-bits. When doing this, the different widths of strokes in a character are reproduced by plunging the V-bit to different depths into the workpiece. The wider the stroke is supposed to be, the deeper the V-bit cuts into the workpiece. V-bits of 60° and 90° seem to be most common for this sort of work. A 30° V-bit like this one will cut more deeply into the workpiece, and that's the look I wanted. Using a wider-angle V-bit to engrave small text will result in a very shallow carving. One thing I question about this bit is that the point doesn't come to a point. Its tip is 1mm wide, as stated in the product title and description. I'm not sure why they did this, as it makes the carving less deep and less sharp. Perhaps it's to make the bit more durable for harder materials? ... show more

  • Great Plunge; Short Shank
On my Dremel, this milling bit makes a great plunge cut. Very controlled and easy to use by hand. However, it is the first bit from the SHARPRO series that I have received that is so short the cutting tip actually goes into the well. When loading this mill bit, I have to tighten the Dremel horizontally as to keep the bit from sliding further into the well than I would prefer. Otherwise, it's a great bit to have in my collection. ... show more

  • Great 1mm tipped engraving bit!
I run this in my 3018cnc engraving machine, I usually cut maple with it, run it about 20ipm and 20,000 rpm at 0.030 depth of cut with no issues.

  • Great for grooves
Size: 1/4 SHK
I own several of this brand of bits now, and I like them. They come in good packaging that is useful for storing the bit between uses. This fit my hobby CNC running a palm router perfectly. It is sturdy and straight. I've used it for carving grooves, and it worked well. I haven't tried it for V-carving. I like that this tip is flat, rather than pointed. It creates a better bottom to the grooves, but also is less likely to break or for that tiny sliver at the tip to overheat and distemper. Even so, I recommend taking small steps on the depth. I've used it for several projects and it's still sharp. ... show more

  • Detail bit, use with care.
These bits are small, so designed for detail work with a CNC. Beware they are very sharp! They come in their box to keep from damage, then they put on a stupid rubber sleeve that can be difficult to slip off. I cut myself trying to get the stupid sleeve off. Bled every where. So take care, maybe take off the rubber protector with some needle nose pliers. know your speeds and feeds for cutting the materials and these will do a nice job, but to much stress will likely break them. ... show more
