When I read that the Wirecutter section of the New York Times ranked these as the "Budget pick" in a best kitchen towels review, I knew I had to try them. They weren't wrong. My family tries to keep paper towel use to a minimum so we use these for everything: wipe up spills, wipe counters, clear appliances, dry dishes, dry hands, etc. They are absorbent and stand up to many, many washings. Bought these to replace my last set of white bar towels. I use them like paper towels on my counter. I like the color, as white gets dingy quickly with coffee stains etc. The quality is not great, not super absorbent. Washing them weekly, they get strings hanging off them quickly. Not streak free.
