They are pre moistened with STERILE water. Im in the medical field and will confirm to you that these are safe. “Sterile” meaning free of any bacterias or microbes. BUT soon as you take them out of the packaging, store them somewhere CLEAN where they will dry out. Don’t put them in a dirty closed container as they will harbor bacteria and would cause bacterial colony growth. Definitely air dry them out first. ... show more

These seemed very strange to me at first. They were very thin, although the one I have been using is a little thicker now. It had a sort of slimy, not dry feeling to it. I have been using one of these for several days now and it seems fine. The dimensions, length and width, are a tad smaller than standard kitchen sponges but these do seem fine overall.
