  • Another great expansion!
Style: Hogwarts Battle
NOTE: This is an expansion - you need the base game. It is optional whether or not you also have the prior expansion. We pre-ordered this back in July, got it yesterday and immediately played. The base game was one of our favorites and we loved the Monster Box of Monsters expansion. For our first game, we played Box 1 of this set, combined with all 7 years of the base game and all 4 boxes of the Monsters expansion. I don't know if we got lucky or are "just that good", but we crushed it - in a 3 player game, we made it through with zero stuns and without losing the first location. (In fact, at the instant we won, we had no marks on the location and were all at 10 health, so I guess that's as decisive a win as possible.) That said, it was still a lot of fun and it didn't feel too easy, though I am hoping that the challenge picks up a bit with Box 2. The Box 1 addition of "charms" is a nice touch, particularly making the specific charm dependent on the character's health level. After winning, we opened Box 2 and that looks like a neat game mechanic to add. I will echo another reviewer's comment - the production is a little off in that the cards from this set are ever so slightly shorter than the cards from the other sets. It's noticeable when you shuffle and have the draw piles. I wouldn't gamble for money with cards this mismatched, but honestly, unless you're trying to study a draw pile AND have an opinion about the relative preference for a new card vs an old size card, it doesn't really matter, so I didn't ding them a star for it. Here's hoping that we'll get yet another expansion in the future and, in the meantime, that boxes 2-4 are as much fun to play. ... show more

  • Very fun
Style: Hogwarts Battle
This game is ridiculously fun to play. It's not overly challenging but it is time consuming. But it's also a gave me to walk away from for a little while and come back to. If you have a space to keep it set up. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

  • Love Harry Potter? Buy it.
Style: Hogwarts Battle
Oh man. We got this for Christmas for our 9 year old, Hogwarts-obsessed son and we literally have not stopped playing in almost 2 months. He asks for this every single day. We love playing this as a family (mom, dad, 9 year old and 12 year old) and were surprised at how quickly we were able to learn all of the ins and outs as we’ve never played a card-building game. We love the cooperative aspect of it and that we all have to work as a team instead of as opponents. The cards are high quality with familiar faces. Considering we’ve played this almost daily, we’ve more than gotten our moneys worth and it’s been the best game purchase we’ve made in a very long time. Oh, and get the expansion packs while you’re at it! ... show more

  • Fun and Great expansion!
Style: Hogwarts Battle
My family and I have played literally everyday during our quarantine in 2020 the Hogwarts Battle Co-op game that we decided to invest in this expansion. I highly recommend this expansion game once you've mastered the base game of Hogwarts battle and have a good understanding of the Monster Box of Monsters Expansions. The only downfall of this game is the size of the cards and the different shade of cards. Other than that, it is a great game to play and you can play as Ginny! If you are a Harry Potter fan and love card building co-op games, this expansion will add an additional difficulty to keep playing! It's also fun to add all the games together to create your own difficulty of all types of levels from each game. ... show more

  • Great Expansion to the Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle Game
Style: Hogwarts Battle
Everything was packaged neatly, many pieces, and yet each was explained perfectly well. Boxed where each part of the game introduces new elements but are boxed separately to not overwhelm. The box is sturdy, much like the original. The components are well-made and durable. Gives many new hours of entertainment to expand the original game! Our family loves this game!! ... show more

  • Favorite expansion for one of my favorite games
Style: Hogwarts Battle
I LOVE Hogwarts Battle, and I think this expansion is fantastic. I love the whole potion brewing mechanic, and the charm boards as well. Though, as with the professions from the monster expansion, some are clearly better than others. If you love the base game and the monster expansion, you will love this one too. The new rules are easy to follow and grasp, though there were a couple not quite clearly spelled out rules that we needed to hit up google to get clarification on. I really love the potion ingredients board and how it functions to brew potions. I love how we can work on potions together, and I am a big fan of any kind of resource management, so trying to plan ahead on where the ingredients will fall was a fun little challenge. I do have a couple of minor bones to pick though. 1. The potions are really hit or miss, and 2-3 ingredients seems too few sometimes. Some of the potions are just boring, and we often found ourselves going a few rounds without even touching the potion options, or just getting them because they were there and we could, but not really feeling excited about it. In my opinion I feel like this might have been more engaging if there were fewer potions, but they had much cooler abilities, and took maybe 4-5 ingredients to make instead. Especially in later packs I feel like it would make an interesting dynamic as we try to decide if we want to put ingredients on that super sweet potion we really want, or on our dark arts potions to get rid of them, making it a really compelling choice and strategy. 2. Almost Too Many Cards. This isn't entirely the expansions fault, as it combines the dark arts and Hogwarts cards of all 7 HP packs and the expansion, creating a deck of over 120 cards. This creates a lot more common occurrence when the market is full of high cost cards we can't afford, or we don't get really important cards we need. A couple of times we lost because we just never got cards that let us remove death eaters from the locations. I think the game is in serious need of rules on how to cull the deck based on the number of players. It seems especially bad with just 2 players. 3. Certain Villain combinations are almost impossible. There are some that just synergize so well that if they were out together it was near impossible to win. I love a challenge, and I certainly don't want to faceroll over the game like it's nothing, but little is more frustrating then playing a two hour game, getting to the last few villains, and losing because you get a villain combo that just stomps you. Especially when combined with some of the Event cards. I know it's part of the strategy to plan, to know what event is coming and prepare for it and try to defeat X villain so they aren't there, or take out Y event before X happens, but its not always possible to control. One game we were literally losing almost our entire hand to discarding each turn, making it impossible to buy new cards or deal much damage because we'd start our turn with a single card, and losing health for each card we discarded. Despite those flaws this is still one of my favorite games, and I am never not in the mood to play it. This expansion adds a lot of interest to the base game, and I find myself trying to strategize on how best to incorporation the potions into every game we play, because just the base game now feels boring and lacking of things to do without it. The new Hogwarts cards are great, and while not my favorite character to play Ginny is pretty fun. I can't recommend this enough, and I am excited to see what the next expansion will be! ... show more
