  • Hours of fun.
We have played this over and over. This is actually our second time buying because we wore the cards out on the first one.

  • Fun BUT
As some other reviewers have mentioned this game isn't really well balanced. Once a player gets ahead (usually pretty quickly) they end up dominating the other player. There's almost no chance to make a comeback. As the winning player, it's kind of fun to dominate the other but as the losing player it's not enjoyable because you know you're going to loose and there's nothing you can do to stop it. It seems like when a player is stunned they should gain an advantage over the winning player such as a gaining a special card, getting rid of all Hex cards, gaining one card they want, both players discarding one card or even just the winning player. I think this might help balance the game a bit more, something.. Ally's really help you win the game, when i'm playing I get as many as i can because they can be used every turn once they're played. Some are good and some aren't used often but they're much to valuable to not get, especially if they give you the ability to play other house attacks. Hexes are super annoying. One game my partner ended up with so many in their deck that they had at least one every hand, sometimes up to 3. It just isn't fun, even as the winning player. We picked this up because we love the Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle deck building game and thought some PvP action would be fun and while it is - I don't think this game will get much play. Also, the cards feel of lesser quality than the HP Hogwarts Battle game. The "clamps" that hold your health piece seem like they're going to eventually wear the health piece out because of how tightly they clamp. It would have also been nice to get a bigger playing board, similar to the HP Hogwarts Battle game board but I'm sure they did a smaller one to save on costs & box space. Overall it can be fun but I don't see this being a common game played, maybe just with new friends or family that want to try it out. ... show more

  • Great intro to larger Hogwarts Battle Co-Op
Great quick version/intro to the larger Harry Potter co-op game! If you like the Battle for Hogwarts co-op game, you will probably like this one alot too. Its great for quicker games where you battle each other instead of HP villains. It's good for warming up your strategy brain, and we've found it really helpful to introduce someone new to this game first, rather than throwing them in the deepend of the Hogwarts battle. Hogwarts battle is easily a couple hours long, put this might be up to an hour, depending on how you play. It keeps a lot of the same mechanics which is also great. My only wish is that the game mechanics didnt allow one player to attack the other player to the point that they are stunned in one turn. I.e. the second player doesn't have an opportunity to defend themselves at all. They have to just kinda watch as they get stunned...which, sucks. Suggestions to fix: 1. Charm/defensive spells had "blocking" or "counter-spell" abilities. For Example... "expecto patronum" or "protego" ability could be changed and allow you to block an opponent who attacks you for 3 or more hits... (instead of just giving you more health on your next turn.) Not helpful if you are already stunned. 2. Curses like "Imperio" could steal an opponent's allies, if they have 3 or more... making it harder for one player to just stack up on allies and hit you 10 times. It also fits in more thematically! 3. Give some allies the ability to heal you immediately/block spells/or counter attack, rather than just attacking or healing you afterwards. I.e. Neville, Snape, Lupin, Tonks, Sprout, etc. Think defense against the dark arts, aurors, Snape's occlumency, or herbology... 4. Simply adding a deck of charm spells to counter hexes ... show more

  • If you love Harry Potter: Battle of Hogwarts, this is a MUST HAVE
My wife and I LOVE Harry Potter: Battle of Hogwarts, but sometimes when it's just us two, we want to destroy each other. Out comes Harry Potter Duel. It's the same concept as HP:BoH, so the gameplay is very easy to learn. We love that there are LOADS of Hogwarts cards. We have yet to even get through half the cards while playing an entire game. We love that you get to keep all your cards you've purchased when you start the next round (unlike HP:BoH where you return all purchased cards, booooo). We also love that once Allies are played, they remain in play unless they are discarded or a new round begins. For us, the attack and heart tokens are a bit superfluous because we take hits and give life on the dueling mat as those cards are played. I will say that since you get to keep the cards you've purchased each round, it does make it harder for the person getting stunned to make a comeback and win the game. A comeback hasn't happened yet while we've played. Usually, whoever is going to win does so by domination, and the other person doesn't stand a chance. Overall, we absolutely LOVE this game. I would play it more if my wife agreed to play, but she has several other games she really enjoys playing too. ... show more

  • Great 2-player only version
For those who have played the Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle collaborative version, this game is similar but instead of fighting the dark arts, you are trying to stun the other player. You will choose a house to begin the game and then certain cards have abilities specific to your house. Also, as you play allies, you may gain their house abilities as well (while they are in play). You play until someone has stunned the other player 3 times. This is a deck building game, which means you have the freedom to choose which cards you buy and add to your hand (assuming you have enough coins in your hand). These cards will stay in your deck (for the most part) and you will cycle through them for the entirety of the game. I think this version is much easier to learn and teach and is a great version to okay with 2 players. My wife and I enjoy this game and will play it as often, or slightly more, than the original collaborative version. ... show more
