At first I thought they might be a bit light for handling the larger Crucibles, but it grabbed hold of my 8kg crucible without any slippage. These tongs maintained the grip, with hardly any flex as I twisted them in a rapid pouring motion. My son, who is learning forging, thought that instead of a screw, there might be a cold, or hot, set pin to join the arms. At any rate, I'm sure I will get good use out of them. Oh where do i start? The product image shows sturdy tongs maybe 3/8" thick... I received two coat hangars painted black. They have no stability, they do not come close to fitting my crucible, they are so rickety that i would not trust them with even a hot cup of coffee much less molten metal. The coating is super slick and has no grip, it should be an abrasive high temp paint. The hinges are wallowed out and loose thus further weakening the grip theu could ever hope to have. They took 5 or 6 days to ship, tracking even showed the tongs made it to the facility within 12 miles of my home before going back outta state. Also The coating burns off if you get it near a furnace and it'll make you nauseas af. Lets see if the free gloves for a review suck this badly too. ... show more

    • Light wieght and easy to use.
NOT for heavy crucibles, and neither should they be. The design is not made to lift weight. In saying that I find using them with my #6 Crucible reasonable, although I wouldn't go any larger, especially when melting lead. Some complain of to much flex in the handles, but I find this makes it easier to limit potentially crucible breaking pressure to the tool, since it relies on grabbing force to grip the vessel. ... show more

    • Ultra light duty
Tried to use these for a brass pour with the 5kg crucible (Catastrophic failure, review posted for that item). The crucible was only about 75% full of brass and these tongs literally bent under the weight of trying to lift the crucible from the furnace.
