  • Great for sound dampening!
Size: 96" x 80" (1 Blanket) Color: Black
I originally picked up these extra large moving blankets for protection during a move, but I ended up hanging them on the walls of my studio for sound dampening — and they work surprisingly well. The thickness and heavy material really cut down on echo and reverb, giving the room a much cleaner sound for recording and streaming. They’re big enough to cover large sections of wall, easy to hang, and actually look pretty good once in place. Definitely a more affordable option compared to acoustic panels, and they’ve made a huge difference in how professional my audio sounds. If you’re setting up a home studio on a budget, these blankets are a smart and practical solution. ... show more

  • Installation is key, possible insulation benefits
Size: 96" x 80" (1 Blanket) Color: Black
My bedroom window is 8' wide by 5' long. The window faces the back of the house, and the neighbor behind me has a noisy pool pump. So, I've done a few things to dampen the sound. This blanket just covers my window leaving only 1" on each side. The better option would have been to use two side-by-side blankets that overlap in the center and that extend onto the wall. Aesthetics wouldn't permit this. So on the window, I have slats, then a blackout liner, then this blanket, then blackout curtains. The difference in sound absorption is noticeable after hanging this blanket to the existing mix. I have a few comments about the installation. For me, this was a two-person job. I hung the grommets on picture-hanging hooks nailed into the stud. First I positioned each side and then worked from the middle out, alternating from one side to the other, smoothing out the stretch. Given this stretch, I had to reposition the hooks on each side afterwards. I measured from the ceiling down to position each hook. The grommets are not evenly spaced. So, if you later decide to hang from the other side, you would need to place the hooks once again. Not fun! The other potential benefit might be insulation of the window. My window faces west and, therefore, gets full sun all afternoon during our 110+ degree summers. The exterior has a solar screen. While it helps, it doesn't do the complete job. I still feel heat on the glass, which is double paned. Hopefully this blanket will help during the upcoming summer. One review said the item smelled and needed to be aired out for a day. I noticed no smell at all. ... show more

  • Works as Advertised
Size: 96" x 80" (1 Blanket) Color: Black
A mixed bag, depending on your demographics. My experience is that the foams only seem to attenuate incoming sound (make it more localized so you know what to block) but these blankets work to ameliorate the incoming sound (absorb some noise). In other words, it does what it says it does, with a caveat. For apartment dwellers trying to block sound on a connecting wall that seems to be really thin, these may not be the best solution IMO Let me try and explain in my words. Within 6 feet of a blanketed wall, no matter how localized the sound is, the entire blanket absorbs the sound, sort of like a lake with ripples, and appears like a wall of sound. The farther past 6 feet from the blanketed wall you get, the more you can notice that sound is actually being absorbed, and the sound has been dampened significantly. If you put a blanket on an apartment connecting wall, and then place a recliner or bed directly up to the blanketed wall, it may seem like the blanket does nothing at all and perhaps makes the sound worse. HOWEVER. If you are in a house, where neighbors are at least 20 feet away with a high pitch noise maker they mount on their wall (it's marketed as a prank but is always used criminally) these blankets will make a difference. These blankets will not block the sound. Heck, 2-pound MLV may not entirely block it. These 14-pound blankets are only marketed with an NRC, and they actually work as advertised. ... show more

  • Pricey but worth every penny — dramatic sound reduction for our studio
Size: 96" x 80" (1 Blanket) Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. Quick Take: We started with 2 of these curtains in our production studio, and they worked so well that we invested in 6 more. The sound difference is dramatic, though there is a strong chemical odor when new. What I like: Excellent sound control: Cuts down echo and outside noise, which immediately improved our recording quality. Heavy-duty build: Thick material, solid stitching, and they hang nicely. Their heavy weight is expected — and necessary — for effective sound blocking. Proven performance: We expanded from 2 to 8 curtains because the results were that good. What could be better: Price: Higher than standard curtains, but worth it if you need real sound dampening. Chemical odor: Strong smell out of the box — recommend airing them out before installation. Not for warmth: They are heavy and dense, but not designed as a traditional blanket substitute. Verdict: These curtains transformed our studio by significantly reducing noise. While heavy, pricey, and initially odorous, they perform exactly as intended. For anyone serious about sound control, they’re 100% worth the investment. ... show more
