    • Lots of potential, with a disappointing outcome

So I bought this case because it looked great and promised a lot of good things. I change cases pretty frequently because I'm painfully indecisive and this one looked like a good contender. I definitely loved the look of this case when I opened it up, it looked very industrial and sturdy - like you could kill a man with it if you needed to, but why would you need to, psycho. However, comma, the first thing I noticed when I unboxed it was that...it was light (weight not hue). Too light in fact, not a safe level of lightness. It looked rugged, it felt cheap. I figured perhaps they had used some super lightweight but strong materials in the construction (I'm not a scientist) and I would try the case anyway - after all it really does look cool - but quickly became disappointed after only two days of use. It's actually very uncomfortable to hold first of all, the sides feel nicely textured but the crazy design of the back feels awkward and unpleasant and makes maneuvering the phone in your hand a bit of a chore. The leather bits feel very fake but also trap warmth so if you hold the phone for longer than a few minutes your fingers get all slippery and uncomfortably warm. Additionally, the metal backplate is an absolute fingerprint magnet, I don't think I've ever seen a case or any object of any type show fingerprints and smudges so clearly with so little effort. Lastly regarding design, the screen is quite exposed in this case. The top and bottom bumpers are of a fair depth, but the sides lack any sort of protection and there's even a fairly sizable gap between the edges of the case and my edge wrapping screen protector. Unfortunately though the biggest failing of this case's design came on day 2 when I removed the phone from my hoodie pocket after doing nothing of consequence or danger to the device and found the corner of my screen protector cracked. There was nothing else in my pocket, nothing had hit it or otherwise impacted it, it just cracked. Luckily my phone was alright because I'm dilligent with using good protectors, but still damage is damage and the fact it came from an unknown source doesn't bode well. "Blame the protector not the case" you shout at an Amazon review despite the fact I can't hear you, but still I reply that I've had the same protector on for a long time and through multiple mishaps. And before that protector I had the exact same brand of protector that survived until the phone was literally crushed. The protector took blows that broke cases, it has performed well. I have absolute faith the failing was not on the part of the protector, it lived a good life with an OtterBox case and a Spigen before that (and a myriad of more ill-fated cases), but two days with UAG and it broke. I'm disappointed to have to leave a middling review for this case honestly, I thought it had a lot of potential, but unfortunately it just can't live up to its own hype. I guess if the style is REALLY your thing and you live a life largely free of the hazards of, uh, pockets apparently, then this case could serve you well. For me though, it's a return. ... show more

    • Completely sold on UAG cases (SEE UPDATE!)

**** UPDATE - STILL BEST CASE EVER - WILL PROBABLY BUY NEXT PHONE BASED ON AVAILABILITY OF THIS STYLE UAG CASE FOR IT!!! I have dropped my phone so very many times on brutal surfaces, and the phone always comes out of the event unscathed. I cannot recommend this case highly enough. Also, after almost a year, you must look close to see any signs of wear or tear on the case. Amazing! And the rubber fake screws are all in place, the UAG logo is in place and fine... **** END OF UPDATE**** I had an Otterbox Defender for my new Samsung S9+ back in November but was not happy with it. The rubber along the bottom never fit correctly after using the port flaps a couple dozen times and it was too bulky to easily go in and out of my pocket. I'd had my eye on the UAG cases for some time, and when the price dropped after the S10's came out I decided it was time to give one a try. I have the Cobalt blue Plasma case and I love it. I've had it for nearly two months so this review is after a bit of use. This is now my favorite brand of electronics cases. The case fits my phone perfectly. The buttons work great with the case - much better feel than any other recent cases I'd used with my previous phones. And it has protected the phone from numerous accidental drops without any damage to the phone or the case. It slips very nicely in and out of my pocket and I have no concerns whatsoever with setting my phone face down. I do call "BS" on the three layers of protection. There are three different materials between the rubber "buttons" behind the fake rubber screws, the hard blue case, and the rubberized top and bottom ends. They all contribute to the protection of the phone but it's not 3 actual layers. In spite of that little bit of marketing deception UAG gets to keep all 5 stars. BTW - in seeing this case and some of the complaints others have made about their cases, I wonder if they had "knock offs". The fake rubber screws do not appear to be going anywhere and the UAG logo is recessed and staying put. Mine was sold on Amazon by UAG so I was sure I was safe... that proved to be true! ... show more

    • Everything I was expecting from UAG

I just upgraded from my 6-year old Galaxy S6 (protected for 6 years by my old UAG) to a certified refurbished S9+ direct from Samsung (I have nothing but great things to say about that also - never buying or leasing a new phone!). I ordered this UAG case because of my essentially perfect experience with the old UAG case. Fits like a glove, gives me confidence if I drop this phone - feels every bit as comfortable as the old case (and I've dropped the old phone quite a few times with zero problems). This phone has the "edge" stuff - but just like the old case it has reinforced corners that stick out a bit above the screen to take the brunt of any drops. All of the ports are open and easily accessible - power and volume controls feel natural (actually easier to control than just the phone by itself). Also, despite it's obvious durability, it doesn't make the phone feel bulky at all and slides easily in and out of my pocket. Oh, and I think it's worth noting that this case works with the wireless chargers - for those I recommend the Seneo upright charger - I had nothing but bad luck getting any phone (case or not) to ever work that round flat Samsung wireless charger... If you're a semi-cheapskate like me and get this phone, this case is a must. 3 or 4 years from now when I finally upgrade to the Galaxy 20 or 21 I'll definitely go find the the UAG case for that. ... show more
