    • Not worth the frustration
Don’t buy this. I purchased this about 6 months ago and it has been constantly frustrating. Yes, the WiFi is really great! I wish my Pit Boss vertical smoker would come like this when I bought it. Install was easy, same as all the rest of the ones I’ve bought. However, I’ve had my pit boss for about 4 years now, it’s been great! Used it almost every week, now I hardly use it. Biggest issue, the internal temp probe calibration is way off. You set it, yea, it says it’s holding it but it’s not. It could be 50 degrees off, or 120. It’s always a lower temp than it says on the screen. I’ve never had a situation where I had an internal, out of control fire in my grill. Since this controller, I’ve had 2 fires now with it! Also, it has no smoke option, it has it on the screen, but you cannot use it, no idea why! Oh, and it won’t run past 5 hours?! It just puts the fire out, but the fans run!? 3 times now, it has cooled my food after cooking it! Last weekend for my family’s Thanksgiving, it was over 120 degrees off!! I had to finish our turkey in my regular oven! You have to run an external temp probe to monitor the box temp and constantly adjust the set temp. I thought I could live with not having a smoke option, but with all the other issues, I’m done. I’m going back to the standard Pit Boss control panel. Yea it stinks losing WiFi functionality, but I can’t deal with not trusting my smoker anymore. I hope I can help someone else not make the mistake on buying it. ... show more

    • Seems to work good, but....
If I bring the temp anywhere near 400, it get an err message... Looked in the manual for my 5 Series Vertical & the code says ignitor... Being several years old, I needed to replace the rusted burn pot also, so when those parts come in, I will give it another shot & see how it goes. App is simple & works well... Went to the store after starting some chicken & got a notification the temp had dropped below my warning temp... Apparently the wife wanted to use the extension cord I had the smoker plugged into & forgot to plug it back in when done.... Fit perfectly in the panel also, and for the low low low price vs PB OEM replacement, I get the added benefit of Wi-Fi & BT... This controller seems to reguate the temp much more accurately, I checked with my BT thermometer & the wired probes , all 3 are within 5 degrees. While I am replacing parts, I will go ahead & change the temp sensor int he cabinet too... Will update this review if all is well after I get the parts installed. ... show more

This was a used item.., but then I see new are selling for about same price. The units instructions are cryptic. I took them to copy shop to have embarked to be able to read… but… then.., this is amazingly help in controlling a pitboss smoker. Right on your iPhone it gives temp, time… the app is great. ... show more

I was tired of getting up to check on my smoker temp. Since this is wireless you can see what is going on from your phone. Installation was easy and it is a perfect replacement for the OE controller.

I really wanted to like this but I may have got a faulty one. The app for this is really simple and nice. However the item itself is doing this weird shut off thing with my pit boss where it randomly shuts off. Never had this issue with the original controller it did not start until installing this one. ... show more

    • Very Nice Upgrade from OG Control Panel
Purchased this control panel to replace the original control panel on my Pit Boss PBV4PS1 vertical smoker because it has Bluetooth. It is plug and play and easily installed. I downloaded the app and found it easy to connect to my home WiFi. While I was testing the controller I kept an eye on the temperature indicated at the controller and compared it to the temperature on the app and they were spot on.
