I ordered the Upcut spiral router bit with a 1/8-inch shank and 1mm cutting diameter for use with the Shapeoko Pro XXL CNC machine. I carve a variety of objects in various species of woods in both 2D and 3D and wanted a bit similar to this that would provide me with greater details especially in carving 3D projects. The nice thing about this bit is that it fits into my 1/8-inch collet. The bit works well with a variety of woods from pine to walnut adjusting the speeds, feeds, and plunge rates so as not to damage the bit. Good bit to do thin lines with your router. It's a very tiny bit good for delicate lines. Haven't had any issues with it yet.

I've never tried CNC'ing with a bit this small. I've decided to use it on PCB copper clad only, because I don't think my lightweight machine has enough rigidity to not punish this poor thing on aluminum. It's almost uncomfortably delicate to handle. And I know that's just me. It's just so tiny. But it seems to handle 1oz and 2oz copper clad just fine and it makes quick work of the substrate. Works well for pocketing narrow areas that a 3mm tool can't reach. The only downside is the length - understandable given how fragile the spiral looks, but 4mm is still pretty shallow. Great finish on wood, though.

I cannibalized a couple solar street lights and made an oak frame to hold two panels. I chucked this little eighth inch carbide cutter up in my router table and it did a superb job cutting slots to accommodate the panels. The upcut bit left a very clean edge. I did have to make two passes as the panels are .152" thick - not much to a second cut on a table though - quick and easy.
