This is an interesting and handy tool. I find it useful. It has more solid construction than I expected. (More on this below.) I'd like to clear up some confusion. First, the title includes the word collet. This is NOT a collet or a collet holder according to my knowledge of collets. A collet holder functions as a collar that clamps down on the object being held, providing a strong, accurate, and concentric grip. Collets are often used in applications like milling, drilling, tapping, and grinding, where precision and stability are crucial. This tool does part of those functions, but it is NOT a precision tool that could be used in milling. It's a handy holder of cylindrical objects where machinist's precision is not required. You can use it in a vise (or possibly with clamps). It holds only certain diameter objects. On a related note, I also own this tool: "PACYTION Bike Saw Guide for Road Mountain Bike Fork Steerer, Seat Post, Bicycle Handlebar, Adjustable Cut Saw Guide for Cutting" (ASIN B0BM4W6MRS). It is useful for many purposes, not just for bicycles. It can hold a larger range of diameters. It also works in the vise, like this tool. The two tools compliment each other. The other one may be the better value, depending on your needs. A second issue with the title is that it says, "Constructed from Aircraft Grade Aluminum." To my surprise, the tool is heavier and sturdier than I expected. I believe it is made out of steel. I view this as a positive. (The end plates may be aluminum.) I rate the tool a 4, provided you understand it is not a precision machinist's tool. I see one other review rated it 4-stars and I mostly agree with that review. (Although, so far I don't have the same concern about the end plates.) My interactions with customer service were very positive and helpful. I'm adding a star for good & responsive support. (I'm being generous in not taking off a star for the confusing aspects of the item's title, but I hope my review helps clear those up.) This is a slick piece of kit. I guess this was designed to work on firearm barrels. It's designed with rubber inserts on the clamping area so you don't Marr the parts you are clamping. I got this for that specific feature. I had a hydraulic ram that was 5/8's in diameter and needed to remove an end without damaging the rod that slides though a seal. My experience was I could not get it clamped tight enough to remove the end. The rod just turned no matter how much force I put on the vise. So, i't not designed to holding a high torque. But for what it's designed for it's really brilliant. Unlike another review I saw I did not bend any end plates and I really put some force on it from the vise. Just be careful to position it in line with the hole you are using to clamp. ... show more

PROS: Great non-marring clamping of various diameter round objects and perfect for working on rods, pipes, shafts, and barrels. CONS: Side slide hinges are very thin, and easy to bend if not careful when adjusting sizes. Overall good value and great additional accessory for any bench vise set up.

As a firearm collector, I work on a large variety of guns, and the barrels range in size over a pretty big range. It's not just calibers, but it might be a bull barrel, or an extra thin lightweight barrel, or a shotgun barrel. The 4 sizes of collets in this block accommodate round barrels .550" / .625" / .750" / .825" to .920" diameters. The collets in the block have a rubber like texture so they're soft and don't leave any marks from the vise. The instructions that accompany this specify what maximum torque you should use to hold the barrel without damage. I didn't expect a barrel clamp to be so much fun, but this one is like a fidgit toy switching between the two pairs of holes. You slide off the end plates, flip the assembly, and replace the plates. Precisely made and very useful clamp for pipes and other tubes Clamping with the presence of the rubberized type gasket is very good, really holds onto the round tubing and pipes well without moving around on you. I used it to clamp pipes and tubes especially for drilling holes on them and this gadget doesn't squash or deform the pipes and tubes especially the light gauge ones. There is really good machining on this. All of the edges with the exception of the stamped hinge are chamfered, so there isn't a single sharp edge or burr to accidentally cut yourself on. The neoprene is also oversized so there is little risk of it sliding out further than the aluminum jaws themselves. ... show more
