I tried the Umidigi Power 5 as a potential upgrade from my Moto G 5G 2022, a phone of similar dimensions and specs that cost 3-4x the price of this one due to being from a well-known manufacturer. I was immediately impressed by the lightness and thinness of this phone. Setting it up and using it I am also convinced that it is a solid choice for certain specific shopping needs. Those being: you are on a tight budget and can't afford a flagship phone and your cell provider isn't offering any "free with plan" phones. This is clearly not a flagship quality phone. I'd say it's even a step below many of the "free with activation" phones (the ones that are reduced-spec versions of flagship phones) from major carriers; but SEVERAL notches better than "burner" smartphones you can buy over the counter and add prepaid minutes to. The screen is large and responsive. There are several cameras with some enhanced capabilities (though you won't be shooting cinema grade video or night vision photos). Generally the phone is fast and capable of everyday tasks - browsing, email, texts, calls, camera - without getting ridiculously laggy for just basic tasks. In this way it is better than several other "unknown brand" phones that I've seen. Other things I like: - Decent USB-C charger included - Clear protective case and plastic screen protector pre-installed (the screen protector has more friction than glass which may annoy you if you're an avid swiper) - LOOOVE the multifunction button, you can program a single tap, double tap, or hold, to do specific tasks. Like... Turn on the flashlight, camera, IR thermometer, or other apps you may want to launch in a hurry. - Not a lot of bloatware installed. All preloaded apps are reasonable or removable. Things that I don't love: - The provided OS only goes to Android 11. Other phones are up to v13 now. This may limit some newer features and even certain apps from being installable. - There is a "Serif" font on many of the main menus with no way to change it. I think a Serif font looks so strange on a phone UI. For those two issues, you could change either the Launcher or the entire Android OS - but most people won't want to do that. - The IR thermometer is very hard to get a proper forehead reading, and I don't think it's very reliable when it does. It keeps changing by up to half a degree at a time and that's too much of a range to be acceptable for any kind of healthcare use. Seems like more of a gimmick. It does not have 5G connectivity (4G only) and lacks NFC (tap to pay), wireless charging, and Face ID. Many phones at this tier don't. It does have a fingerprint sensor that works quickly but feels... I don't know, loose? Like a spring-clip button that may unclip sooner than I'd want to be done with the phone. Time will tell. It is listed as "water resistant" but I assume that just means a light rain, NOT big spills or submersion. Overall - this is a "you get what you pay for" which is a smartphone to het you through your day-to-day. If you don't need cutting edge tech, fast paced 3D gaming, live-streaming with filters, or power-intensive apps, and don't want to spend more on a leading brand, this Umidigi phone is a solid choice.

I got this phone as a secondary phone for the house, to put home automation apps and other things I don't need on my main phone to bog it down. Overall this is a nice phone. It didn't come pre-loaded with any garbage-ware as most name-brand phones do. It runs very smooth, even loaded down with a lot of big apps; the DuraSpeed, which lets you select which apps can run in the background, seems to really help. Mainly the camera isn't great, and it only has mono sound, not stereo as listed. I was worrying about finding a case but was surprised that it includes a basic case that's adequate. NOTE: Comes with screen-protector already installed under the promo display on the screen! Carefully peel the white flag from the top-right corner down. Phone seems decent quality (back is plastic). Screen is decently bright (turn off auto brightness, it's awful!) and has good viewing angles from all sides. It is only 720p, but I don't notice. Extra programmable button is great for often-used apps, like web browser, texting. Has headphone jack. Arrives with ~115GB free. 2021-06 security update (probably no more). MediaTek Helio G25 CPU, 4GB RAM. Developer mode available. Battery reports as 6150mAh; AccuBattery test estimated ~5500mAh. Battery worked fine down to 8% (I didn't drain it any lower). Charged at 10W. Worked better with old dumb chargers and cables. I accidentally hooked 10V up (don't ask) and it warned of a bad charger overloading it, no apparent damage. AVOID included charger and cable. Charger has a high ripple (364mV p-p, 10x worse than good chargers) and cable would get stuck in the phone and other things I tried. * T-Mobile SIM worked fine. microSD worked fine for photos and music. * Fingerprint reader was pretty reliable (except with wet fingers). * Sound can get fairly loud. Only mono, not stereo as listed (I checked system options to be sure). * Thermometer is interesting. Its object readings differed from my non-contact thermometer by a few degrees. Hard to take self-readings due to screen facing away as you measure. * Bluetooth worked fine with several devices. Nice features: + Programmable button. * DuraSpeed to keep background apps inactive. Minor issues: - Cameras aren't great. - Mono, not stereo. - Poor charger and potentially-damaging cable; use your own!
