Just hung this beautiful rack up last night. First off I want to comment that the rack is VERY well made and is solid wood... REAL hardwood... not MDF as one reviewer claimed. Also, I really like the finish. It is a thick stain, not really a paint. It still lets the woodgrain show, but not much. I think it is quite elegant looking. My finish had no flaws and seems durable enough to me. Now, the template is garbage... ignore it. No excuse for this being wrong, but it is SO easy to overcome, I just can't knock down more than one star for the failure. Just measure the distance between the slots (mine was 11 5/16th) Also, if you are hanging this in drywall, I highly recommend throwing away the plastic inserts it comes with and going to the hardware store and purchasing some molly bolts. These are MUCH stronger than the plastic kind and will allow you to hang the heaviest items on the rack without fear. The plastic ones probably would work fine also, but for 40 cents a piece, I would feel much better using molly bolts. That said, I just used wood screws, as my house is old and has solid redwood planking underneath the drywall. Try and hit a stud and use a wood screw if you can, but if not, mollys will hold it fine. In summary, I love the rack! It is sleek and fits a lot of items. It is contructed very well with solid hardwood and a aluminum hangers. Should last a LONG time.I am actually ordering two more for another area of my house today, so I guess you could say I am happy with it :-) ... show more

This wall rack for hanging coats is very simple and nice looking. We especially enjoy the fact that the hooks fold up when not in use, and that this rack comes in several different sizes making it useful for walls, and even inside closets as additional hanging storage. The rack itself is not high end material, its by no means wood and I imagine a lot of rubbing will take the finish off over time. However, it looks very nice and should hold up considering wall racks shouldn't really take a lot of wear and tear. As for the installation, the directions are awful - no mistake. Our wall template wall spacing was accurate, but they do not tell you what size holes to pre-drill for the drywall anchors - so you pretty much have to use trial and error. Its also a very awkward installation to basically hook the back of this rack onto partially screwed in screws. Better construction would've been a proper 2 piece where the backing screws directly into the wall, and then the front plate with hooks attaches securely to a back piece. As for the hole spacing, I would've preferred if it would line up with wall studs, but to be honest with proper anchors I can't see why this is a big issue. I have a heavy Carhart winter coat and there is no issue hanging this up along with other articles of clothing. If you find yourself tugging away on the hook, then don't get this type of wall rack. ... show more

Beautiful product. Very small "footprint" on the wall. When not in use, the hooks can be closed for a minimalist approach. Love having a wall based coat hangar that does not protrude far out into the hallway space to get caught on things and people passing by it. It was pretty easy to install. They provide a paper template in the box that you can tape up to the wall while level and drill your pilot holes. The unit itself simply mounts onto the screw heads you put into the wall. I wasn't able to find two studs where I wanted it hung. So I put one screw into a stud and the second screw just into the dry wall (no wall anchor or molly bolt). The stud screw gives it strength and the drywall screw keeps it from rotating. It has done well while loaded up with several coats. Considering buying a second one. ... show more

We use it to hang coats and jackets near our front door. I've read some reviews that stated the enclosed template was not accurate.. We didn't find this to be true. And, it's so simple to determine: the template is merely a piece of paper with dots indicating where to place the screws. Simply hold that paper template over the backside of the Umbra and make sure everything aligns before inserting screws in the wall. We followed the template and it was hung in less than two minutes with no problems. Everyone who has walked in our front door has really liked the modern-looking coat rack. So much nicer than those gawdy stand-alone coat racks. My husband made sure he inserted the screws into studs to make sure the coat hanger holds up to its weight. So far, all is good! ... show more
