When it comes to fishing nets, BasicGear is a brand known for producing many fishing nets at an affordable price. I am reviewing the BasicGear Ultra Light Carbon Fiber Landing Net for Fishing with Telescopic Handle and these are the nets that I tend to zero in on. This particular net is a 71.6" fully extended working length while non-extended it's 40.6. The net is 13.4 inch width, 15.7 inch in height and the depth is 13". This net is ultra-light carbon fiber and has a 17lb. capacity. The net itself is quite light at 1 lb. I'm going to lay it down and why I highly recommend this net. As a person who fishes in a variety of situations, the primary situation is bank fishing in an area where it is dangerous where rip rap has barbed steel sticking out, locations where you are elevated but there are a ton of vegetation laying in front of you. Having an extended net is important and I've gone through several. In fact, one net I used which worked so great, once trying to catch a 15 lb. catfish, the net started bending until it broke apart from the handle. So, now I'm very cautious about metal-based nets with a certain joint near the handle. Also, for nets, I am now focused on rubber meshed nets, silicone nets to even rubber coated nets that don't get caught on a hook. When you pay cheap for nets, you are using nets where hooks can easily get tangled and it's a pain to remove. So, it's very important to find a telescopic net that can reach far areas. I found the sweet spot for telescopic nets are over 70 inches. This particular BasicGear net is 71.6". So, it's about $46, this is not metal but Premium 46T carbon fiber handle. It's light and easy to use. But if I have to nitpick just one thing, it's the handle where you hold. I wished they put EVA rubber for a better grip. Granted, one can purchase golf or fishing handle rubber grips to wrap around for a better grip but I think that is what is missing to make this a perfect net. Nevertheless, the BasicGear Ultra Light Carbon Fiber Landing Net for Fishing with Telescopic Handle (71.6") is a telescopic net that will be the most benefit for anglers that needs a telescopic handle to reach farther and I give it my highest of recommendations to have as part of your fishing gear!

As a boat captain who spends a lot of time on the water, I am always on the lookout for gear that saves space without sacrificing performance. I picked up this net looking for something compact, and it definitely delivers on portability. Here is my breakdown of how it holds up in action: The Build: The carbon fiber handle is extremely light, which makes maneuvering it effortless. When it arrived, I put it through the paces in the netting and really shook it—it did not bow or flex at all. It feels remarkably rigid for how lightweight it is. See video. Versatility & Size Limits: It is well-suited for both freshwater and saltwater environments. However, the size of your target fish is going to determine whether this net is a success. The manufacturer doesn't recommend using this net for fish larger than 17 inches. When I am targeting heavy, long fish, this model is just a little too small. It simply isn't capable of safely containing a thrashing fish that is 25+ inches or more. But, the manufacturer stated this but shoppers don't always read the fine print. Smaller fish, however, won't have any problems at all. Durability Concerns: The net features a rubber netting designed to protect tails and fins, but I do have some reservations about the stitching on the seams. Saltwater notoriously weakens threads over time, and only time will tell if the stitching will hold up. I recommend you rinse this net after use do not dry it in the sun. Before you shove off ensure that there is no fraying in the threads. I recommend carrying 4-in cable ties in a baggie and if you have a tip problem you can quickly cinch up a hole or cinch the net to the hoop. Portability: The standout feature is the storage pouch. The net is highly collapsible, leaving just a rigid hoop that easily tucks away in a car trunk or under the bow of a boat. Final Verdict:Years of experience with landing nets tell me this is a solid buy for casual trips and average-sized catches. I am definitely glad I got it because I will absolutely use it. If it happens to show a limitation from use, I will be back to update this review. Did this manufacturer deliver what was advertised? The answer is yes.

My son and grandsons love to fish, so when I started looking for a new fishing net, this one caught my attention because of the telescoping handle and foldable design. Fishing gear has a way of taking over every available inch of space, so I really like that this one folds down compactly and is lightweight enough to carry along without adding a bunch of bulk. The telescoping handle is especially handy because they can adjust the reach depending on where they are fishing. It works just as well for reaching down from the boat as it does when they are stream fishing from the bank. Another feature I really like is the rubber-coated mesh. It isn’t just a traditional rope-style net, and in my opinion the rubber coating doesn’t seem to hold onto that lovely fish smell quite as much. Anything that makes fishing gear a little easier to deal with afterward is a plus in my book. It also comes with a bag for the handle when broke down. If you are looking for a fishing net that can easily go from the stream to the boat without taking up a lot of space, this is a really practical design.

This is a really nice landing net when you want something lightweight and easy to carry without giving up a good amount of reach. The carbon fiber construction keeps the net feeling light in your hands, which is especially nice when you're carrying other fishing gear or spending a lot of time out on the water. I really like the telescoping handle. It makes the net much easier to transport and store, and being able to extend it when needed is a big advantage when you're fishing from a boat, kayak, or the shoreline. The foldable design makes it even more convenient to tuck away when it's not being used. The rubber-coated mesh is another feature I appreciate. It feels much better suited to handling fish than a rough traditional net, and the mesh doesn't have that heavy, bulky feel that some landing nets have. It's also nice having a net that doesn't take up a lot of room in the truck or fishing gear. The compact size and lightweight design make this a good all-around net for different types of fishing. Whether you're wading, fishing from a kayak, or keeping one in the boat, it's easy to have along without it becoming another piece of bulky equipment. Overall, this is a well-designed landing net that combines lightweight construction, a telescoping handle, foldability, and fish-friendly rubber-coated mesh. A great net to keep in your fishing gear.

This is an amazing super lightweight fish landing net! It goes from being folded up small and taking up very little space (last pic), to being fully extended to be quite long. (I didn’t measure it, but the measurements are in the listing.) The net has a rubbery feel to it. Also, small holes, so less chances for the fish to get its fins caught in the holes. Not like the nylon nets like my dad has owned for decades. And it’s nice and deep! This thing will easily help land and hold some big fish so you can get them in hand for some pics! (Now If only I could catch some big fish, LOL.) I love the carbon fiber. It’s super strong and I love the looks of it. It’s easy to extend and you just twist to tighten when you get it to the length you want. Once tightened, it’ll stay in place until you twist the other way to loosen. And it doesn’t just go from short to super long. There are many lengths to choose from, depending on your particular preferences. And I love that it takes up such little space when folded down. It literally is flat, and just the size of the frame itself with a little bit of handle, as the handle collapses to be quite short, and then folds up over the net frame. The quality of everything is great! I’m so impressed with this net and am tickled pink to own it! It definitely worth every penny. I don’t think any fisherman or fisherman-woman would regret purchasing this net.

There was so much excitement from the kiddos when I pulled out this carbon fiber fishing net. Right away, they wanted to try it out, and I can see why. It is very lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around and much easier for kids to help with too. The net itself is coated in rubber, so it feels gentler on the fish and seems like it will be easier to rinse off after use. I also like that the rubber coating makes the net less likely to break if it gets caught on a snag, which is a big plus when kids are excited and not always being gentle with it. The basket-style shape is another nice feature because it gives you a little more room to scoop the fish instead of trying to perfectly line everything up. The handle is another thing I really appreciate. It folds up for easier storage, which is great if you are trying to keep fishing gear organized in the car, garage, or boat. The locking and unlocking system is simple to use, and the handle extends smoothly when you need the extra reach. That makes it a lot easier to bring the net to the end of the fishing rod instead of trying to pull the rod and fish all the way back toward the net. Overall, it feels like a practical, well-designed fishing net that is easy for the whole family to use.

Lightweight, but strong like steel. A carbon fiber landing net that breaks down small enough to fit in a backpack. The telescoping handle extends and with a twist, locks firmly in place and can be detached from the net entirely. Handle fully connected and extended it has a long reach and a deep nylon mesh basket large enough for most North American gamefish. The ad copy indicates the handle w/the basket and net weigh in at 1lb (16oz) and can hold up to 17lbs. I don't know how that's been tested, it may be the load of the net by itself, because I have an idea the net rim and the handle could exceed that limit. A 30lb Muskie or pike would be difficult to fit into the net itself, and might break, but the rim and handle seem like they could bear the weight. At any rate, it's a great lightweight and compact landing net, especially if you have to backpack into the lake or river, and don't want to be lugging a bulky, cumbersome, heavy gear. I am incredibly pleased with this product and it will be my go to net from now on. Thank you!

Seriously geeking out over this net! It's ridiculously light weight using high quality carbon fiber & weighing in at only 1 pound & rated to net fish up to 17lbs making this such a useful item to ensure fish are landed gently. The netting is made of some special rubber coating that not only protects the fish, but prevents the hooks from getting stuck in it along with that distinctive fish odor on the older style of nets. It's really nice and deep up to 2ft too. I don't foresee using this net on the salt, but I do like the fact that it's marine grade alloy & the net folds back on the handle which has an optional neoprene sock to protect it. It's so versatile for carrying, storing, and using. I can quickly collapse this net down to 2.5ft & attach it my pack with the buckle on its handle for bank fishing or tuck it away on my skiff or in my travel trailer. The telescopic handle stretches all the way out to almost 6ft making it way easier & faster to land a fish with using the simple twisting and locking mechanisms. This is very important to me when fly fishing in catch and release areas as it causes less trauma to the fish. I don't foresee ever needing to get another net this size as it's built to last. 5 stars
