  • Worth every penny
I have asthma. My husband, an engineer, has been working tirelessly to make our house air as clean as possible. Filters. Ventilation systems. And more. My symptoms worsened. I thought, unless we know what’s in the air we cannot fix it. I found the uHoo online and ordered it. I looked at competitors, but I liked that the uHoo has more sensors (better chance we could really understand our air) and the uHoo samples every minute (important for checking results when making changes to conditions). I was skeptical but I was desperate. Within 24 hours of setup (it takes a day to calibrate), the uHoo identified high VOCs. We adjusted our filter systems. No improvement. If we opened the front door, conditions improved. But if we turned on the air exchanger, the VOC reading climbed. I worried that our air ducts had mold. My husband inspected them and they were clean. We finally realized the OUTSIDE air being brought in through the air exchanger was highly polluted. The system sucks in air from the side of the house where our septic system lies. An inspection revealed that the clean-out lids did not have gaskets. Even though there were no odors from the septic system, it was emitting VOCs. My husband installed gaskets. Within a minute, uHoo displayed air quality improvement. Without the uHoo, we would not have suspected the septic system. Today, all sensors are in the green. Not all of my symptoms are gone (asthma has many triggers), but with the uHoo we can better understand our air quality and make continuous improvements. P.S. I was not compensated in any way for this review. I am just a happy and grateful customer. ... show more

  • You will be very disappointed if you buy two!
I particularly like the multiple sensors and smartphone app’s informative explanation of each sensor’s detection and what to do about it. If you work from home, you’ll find these nine sensors helpful. Things you should know before you purchase: 1) It only supports 2.4GHz WiF, and the setup is unnecessarily convoluted; read the instructions and watch the videos on YouTube before you start. 2) It requires cloud service for no apparent reason. 3) The smartphone app sends too many repeated alerts to your smartphone with no way to limit the interval. The app is easy to use but not intuitive. 4) I purchased two units, and one had a defective power supply. Amazon customer service was quick to place It. But, the replacement was cycling power _intermittently_ for three days. The worst part is I couldn't tell why. Update Oct-12-2021: Two devices sitting 25 centimeters apart give very different readings! For example, TVOC=128ppm on one device, and TVOC=1200ppm on the other device! I went back and forth with their support over email, and after two weeks, the problem was due to the devices losing Wi-Fi connectivity, causing the devices to restart/reboot. As a result of the restarts, the devices cannot calibrate! Which seems absurd, but what do I know. No other IoT device on my network has a connectivity problem, and uHoo wants me to change my Wi-Fi configuration! I have been patient, but the technology is immature, poorly designed, and frustrating. ... show more

  • It has potential to be an exceptional product if you're patient. 5 stars based on potential.
I've had my unit for almost a year now, there have been a lot of bugs, but the uHoo team seems to be continually iterating and building upon the app. It's definitely a much stronger, more reliable tool than when I bought it. Probably for the first nine months my NO2 and O3 readings were always off the charts, and I basically learned to ignore them as I still got mostly reliable info from CO2, PM3, and TVOC which were the most critical metrics for me. Eventually, I contacted the team about this bug and it got fixed within a few days. It seemed like a bug that was impacting only my unit. There have been a few other hiccups, but they were random and I've learned to deal with them, but as of the last couple of months I haven't seen many, if any, bugs, and the app has a much better UX. I'm looking forward to using the IFTTT features soon, it's the feature with the most potential. Right now, IFTTT doesn't seem to be very robust and that could be due to being new to it. I imagine the uHoo team will continue iterating on the ability of the end-user to access the data. Previously I wasn't planning on buying anymore of these, but since the app and reliability have improved, I will be buying another couple of units once I find enough free time to comfortably navigate IFTTT and data exporting to justify the cost. In about a year or two, I plan on constructing a house and it would be great to see an expansion of this product into something that can be incorporated into said construction and not something merely designed for a table or counter top. Maybe something that looks like a smoke alarm and mounts to the ceiling powered by a lithium battery with the ability to connect to WiFi / LiFi. Also on the wish list would be a sensor for Radon. ... show more
