Description

UHMW Polymer (plastic) is a linear polyethylene with a molecular weight in the range of 3,000,000 to 6,000,000. This value represents the "average molecular weight". UHMW is 10 times heavier than regular high density polyethylene. Please note: the size of each piece will vary slightly due to the kerf of the saw cut. In most cases it will be slightly under the 4" x 46" measurement.

Replaced the steel wear strip on my snow blower with this stuff. I'm hoping it helps preserve the sealant on my driveway this year. 2019 addition: After 4 winters on my JD 47" tractor blower, the strip still works great, doesn't affect the asphalt sealer at all. ULtra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) Polyethylene plastic is a modified version of polyethylene plastic which has greater toughness and higher slipperiness. It cuts and drills reasonably easy with wood-cutting tools. It's best to go just a bit slower than wood in cutting because of its higher density. It is one of the most slippery materials available - which makes it very good for bearings and tooling jigs where you want smooth action. I use it mainly for easy to make bearing blocks for my home projects. The faces of the material are perfectly smooth. The ends and edges have some saw marks - but not that badly. There are places that sell the same thing online for 50% higher prices, so I am not that upset about the saw marks. ... show more

I used this piece to replace the metal cutting edge on my JD 48” snowblower. After a heavy season of use (Maine, 300’ asphalt driveway) it shows very little wear. The standard metal edge would typically be 1/2 to 3/4 worn under similar use. I hope this plastic cutting edge is easier on the sealant layer as well, time will tell…. One thing, it doesn’t dig into the lawn as much. I won’t be going back to metal cutting edges. This is a far better and more economical solution. ... show more

The length wasn't exactly 48 inches, according to my tape measure, it was maybe one thirty-second of an inch short. But a tape measure isn't a precision measurement tool, so close enough. The width was 3.88 inches, so presumably 4 inches minus an 1/8 inch full kerf blade. The thickness was very accurate. 0.750-0.752 inches, except at the corners where it flares out slightly on the damaged corners. The corners were slightly squashed on one side--the same side that has light machining marks on it. The side is still smooth to the touch, but clearly the opposite side will be slightly lower friction, as it's relatively pristine. If you want perfect corners and uniform thickness, you'll probably have to cut about a quarter inch off each end. Flatness is lacking. I don't have a tool for measuring flatness, but if I hold one end flat on my tile floor, the other end is roughly 1/8 inch off the ground. In other words, it is bowed, with the pristine side pointing away from me. Or maybe boat-shaped with the pristine side in the water and seamen all over the machined/squashed side. I don't have anything to measure squareness accurately. My cheap carpenter square shows a deviation of about 1/32-1/16 inch along the 4" side. Not very precise, but good enough for my needs. Overall, I'm satisfied. It shipped within a few hours and arrived in about 3 days. For the price, it's definitely the best value I could find on Amazon for these dimensions. ... show more

Heavy duty , stiff . I plan on using this on my tractor's snow pusher box , instead of the steel . The steel was scraping up my driveway.
