Our dogs poo and pee inside the apartment on pee pads. They are really good at keeping their messes on the pee pads. BUT when it comes time to swap the pads out we usually throw them into the trash and place new ones and after a few hours the entire apartment begins to stink. We have had this thing for almost two years now. Unfortunately we now have to throw this one away and get a new one. It no longer traps smells and in general all the diapers can be smelled from another room if you have a sensitive nose. That being said my child is almost two so it did last a long time. It also worked great entirely for the first year (baby poop/pee doesn’t really stink till they start eating food). I have tried cleaning this entire thing with industrial cleaner and with vinegar. It seems that the silicone parts on the top lid have collected bacteria overtime and it is absolutely impossible to rid of the smell now. I would rather just buy a replacement lid but ubbi doesn’t offer this option. Not sure how to avoid this or if you can since the condensation that collects is a natural process of the diapers sitting in the pail (for any amount of time). I think in general it’s still a nice diaper pail. It holds up well but the condensation within the pail is problem (and adds to the issue I think). However I’ll still buy another. I would rather deal with steel than plastic parts any day of the week. On the positive side the locking feature has been crucial in keeping wandering toddlers from playing in the pail (yuck!). ... show more

My husband and I are so happy we went with this diaper pail. We have to currently empty it about 2 to 3 times a week with our 7 week old, but you don't need special trash bags. We love that you can use regular trash bags, and we just use the same 13 gallon ones we use in our kitchen. It saves a lot of money, and when you have a newborn every penny helps. THERE IS NO ODOR and the lock feature works great. The only time we can smell the diapers is if it gets left open during a diaper change, or when replacing the bag. The bag is a little bit of a pain to remove from the pail, but it makes sense since the pail needs a tight seal to lock in the odor. ... show more

I love this product. You don’t have to buy fancy trash bags, you can just by cheap generic ones. It seals in orders and really bad ones well. I had one for upstairs and downstairs but I’ve purchased a third now for my newborn’s room. Highly recommend this product.
