With a 10 mm socket and an M5 hex wrench it takes less than five minutes to install. And it works absolutely great. I’ve only had it on for about an hour now, but I’ve tested it a half a dozen times that it seems to work perfectly. Well, engineered and great directions. The only thing I would add is that there’s no need to take the cable strap off of the top bolt as in the end directions just remove the bolt and put it back in again.

Easy install and works exactly as advertised. This ARANA tailgate assist shock took only a few minutes to install with the included hardware and instructions. Once installed, the tailgate lowers smoothly and no longer slams down. The shock feels well-built and operates quietly without affecting normal tailgate use. Fitment was perfect for my Silverado, and it adds noticeable convenience and protection for everyday use. Great value for the price—highly recommended. I bought it for my 85 year old grandfather and it’s absolutely perfect for him!

Just got done installing this on my 2019 ford ranger and installation was simple and i was done in less than 5 minutes. The kit included a t50 torques wrench which was basiclly unusable and didn't include a needed m6 allen. Luckly I had both on hand so not a huge issue but something to consider if purchasing. Other than said issues the dampener seems to work as advertised.

Great product and easy to install. That if you a few extra tools like a hammer, screwdriver and a set of Allen wrenches. Installed in about 15 min, this tailgate damper works perfectly.

My friend has been wanting a tailgate assist for his 97 f250 ever since I put one on my f150. After looking around, we couldn't find a kit for the obs ford trucks. I recently discovered a company that makes a tailgate bracket that allows you to use a tailgate assist kit for the 04-14. After looking at pictures of the bracket, I just made one myself. I then ordered this Arana tailgate assist kit to use with it. Only parts used from this kit is the shock and the upper bracket. Installation of them was really simple. Using the included t50, we removed the bolt that holds the tailgate support and installed the upper bracket and then snapped the shock onto it and the lower one I made and it works perfectly just like it was made for it. Even on the heavy tailgate, that the obs ford trucks have, it works great at controlling the lowering of the tailgate. Not sure if he was happier having his tailgate not slamming down every time he opens it now or if I am knowing the bracket I made allowed it to work using this kit. Either way we're both happy with this kit and recommend it no matter if you're using it on the intended vehicle or as a custom install on another.

This tailgate lower assist is terrific. Works great. Very easy to install. Just follow instructions and remove the rubber bumper that fits next to the lift gate next to the tail lite.

UPDATE: 2/4/26 - Seller reached out and worked to resolve the issue. That wasn’t expected but definitely very welcomed. Still disappointed with the product but not at all with the seller…good people. Updating to three stars for that reason alone. I don’t ever write reviews and even though this is a low buck purchase, the disappointment deserves reviewing. Zero stars is what this product deserves. After installing, I lowered my tailgate one time manually supporting bc the shock didn’t have the strength….this was at Sam’s Club. When I got back to my VFW to unload the groceries, the shock was gone…it’s somewhere between El Paso and Alamogordo on the 54. What a piece of junk! This is all that’s left of the assembly. I had the instructions in hand while installing. I build jeeps and wrench on all my other rigs so definitely not a newb to this kind of stuff. I’d avoid this if I were you unless you have an aluminum tailgate. I bought this for my 1999 F350 tailgate. For the manufacturer…if you are going to state it supports the weight of this tailgate you should probably make sure it does or make a separate and beefier offering for the heavy duty trucks or design a dual setup which makes so much more sense.
