These seem very structurally sturdy, and the fasteners built into them for screwing to assemble the pieces seem to hold really nice and snug to keep the whole assembly feeling strong and tight. They also were packaged efficiently and with sufficient protection. And I have no regrets buying them whatsoever - we really, really like them. But a few tips and such: 1) they come with Phillips head screws for assembly, and there is a LOT of screw work. It would be better to have square head or star head screw heads as far as better gripping from a tool. Phillips head screws are just really frustrating with tool slippage and there are so many better screw head options now. I realize most people have Phillips drivers - and these kits do come with a small Phillips head screw driver (which is also used on some of the cam fasteners that you’ll install) - but it would be nice to have a better setup for people who have to use the hand tools provided. 2) if you don’t have a drill or equivalent tool with a good fitting Phillips bit for the screws, it will take a lot of effort to assemble these using the handheld screwdriver provided in the kit. Just know that in case you don’t have drill and a Phillips head that fits the screws. 3) there is a little bit of lack of clarity in the assembly instructions. Although all PARTS are well marked as to their part numbers, it would also benefit greatly to mark which SIDES connect together (Side A of Part 1 and Side A of Part 2, and so on). Not marking which sides connect is a bit confusing and the line drawings of the instructions don’t seem to provide enough detail either. 4) if you plan on having these set on carpet, they may not be a real good fit for that as is. I would recommend creating a more firm, stable base of some kind for them to set on. 5) they don’t come with a wall mount kit of any kind for safety, so you would need to do something separately on your own for that if you wanted added security to prevent them from tipping. ... show more

I needed something that would give me display space along with book shelves, to fit a specific area. This fit the bill. Would buy another one. Directions were easy to understand and the unit was easy to assemble. Everything was clearly marked. Bring your own screwdriver.

Prompt delivery, and very well packed. Admirable precision of every part, and fit together just as designed. It came with pads for floor, wall securing brackets, and little white covers for exposed holes. I put on a couple and they hide hole amazingly well. (Excuse mess in photo, just got it today and organizing.) I was concerned about shallow depth, but decided because it will be standing away from wall a little, it would be ok. Yes, a lot of screws to drive, but my cordless drill made easy work of that. An Allen wrench and a Phillips screwdriver are included, but would take a long time and require a lot of patience. I love the stand. It wasn’t very sturdy on carpet while standing up straight or vertical so I laid it on its side - horizontal. Which is what I wanted in the first place because of the size of the wall it’s on. I would like to comment on the assembly fee I paid to have the shelf assembled. First of; he was rude! Threw a tantrum when I asked him to remove his shoes. He said he couldn’t so I have him booties. Didn’t like that option either. And why do people think it’s ok to put on booties outside in the dirt their stepping in and then step onto the carpet inside!? It defeats the purpose of not wanting crap from the outside inside your house. Jeez. Anyhow; I will not request assembly from Amazon again. The guy was a total jerk and made me feel completely stupid for the fact that I purchased this shelf from Amazon. Hey buddy; regardless of your saying, it’s seems to be holding on vertically. Yeah he told me it would completely fall apart if I laid it this way. Seems fine to me! Anyways - happy with my purchase. The shelves are not flimsy if assembled correctly. Sure, if you load it up with half a ton of books, or bricks, and give it a push, it might collapse. It is not small. It is 5'×4' as advertised, 17 shelf spaces total, and very similar to the advertised picture. I ordered 2 units to position one vertical and one horizontal in order to wrap around some wall hangings. Quality...? I have 2 granddaughters, so I am well acquainted with bog-box DIY furniture. The quality of this product exceeds that of the big-box warehouse. There was no forcing anything to fit during assembly. The felt pads for the bottom were hard dense felt, not that cheap stick-on stuff from the department store. I was actually impressed, which is hard to do because I am an old dude. I was also impressed for the attention paid to customer convenience. Everything needed to assemble the shelving was included, even a screwdriver. They also included spare pieces for all the different assembly hardware parts. This is rare and shows a true consideration for the customer. Is the "high cost for what you get" statement justified...? I can't say for sure, but I am betting you will see a substantial difference in quality. Having assembled lots of low-cost DIY furniture, I definitely did not "pay too much" for these shelves. Boyh units assembled equally well. If you feel the need to make it stronger, which is unlikely, do this... Cut a panel 50-1/4" × 12" from thin plywood or wall panel and paint one side black or white. Then mount it behind the center section and it will look original. Just please don't use cardboard like that done on some of the really low cost furniture. ... show more
