  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking but hard to assembly and impossible to have a surface without small gaps
Size: 78.7*39.4 inch Color: Rustic + Black
This 84-pound desk will require at least 2 people to handle and assemble. The instructions have very little textual detail, so pay very close attention to the diagrams. Also, no matter what you do, you will not get a perfect surface when done. There are 5 large, heavy pieces of wood to fit together into an exact pattern, but when you begin tightening the screws, it is inevitable that a gap will form between a couple of the pieces. Try to bring them back together and then continue tightening screws and other gaps will form. It would be very helpful if the instructions of Step 7, where you tighten all the screws from steps 3-6, would list the order that you should tighten the screws. This might make a difference, and then again it might not. Also, don't be surprised that you are searching for a bag of screws identified as 'G' in the instructions, but only to realize that the bag marked 'C' is the mislabeled screws that you need. I bought 2 of these desks and 1 desk had the washers from one of the bags spread throughout the box, rather than being contained in the bag they should have been in. So be careful when unpacking. Again, for this very large 79x39 executive desk, you absolutely MUST have at least 2 people to handle and assemble it. To compensate for an imperfect surface, I ordered a CENNBIE MAX200 78.7" x 39.4" Leather Desk Mat here on Amazon. This leather mat is absolutely perfect for these desks, even though it covers up the beauty of the wood surface. But, besides hiding the imperfect assembly, it also makes it possible to move equipment around on the surface without risking scratches. These mats are also good if you spill a little water, it makes mopping up a breeze. Two of these desks make a perfect home studio or work, hobby, and project play area. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Nice desktop - easily marred surface
Size: 70.8*31.5 inch Color: White + Black
Not recommended. At least not without a pad to cover the desktop. This desk is very nice in concept and base construction. It is a bit challenging to put together, primarily because the instructions are in very fine print and the diagrams are difficult to interpret due to their small size. Once you figure out what is actually required, assembly is fairly straightforward. Once assembled, the desk is both solid and aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, the desk has one serious flaw. The surface is some sort of vinyl or plastic, soft enough to be easily marked and marred. I am borderline OCD when it comes to caring for furniture, especially when placing or moving items which will sit on that furniture. Despite this - and rest assured that I exercised great care - I found the surface marked and nicked within days of having set up the desk. Most of the marks could be "rubbed" or "buffed" off, but the nick is there to stay. As to what I was moving ... a Mac Mini, and monitor stand (with felt pads on the base) and the monitor that sits on the monitor stand. This would be a near-perfect desk if the surface were hard enough to take some degree of punishment, but that isn't the case. (To give some context to this paragraph, the listed equipment sat on a smaller, unfinished, parawood table for years without so much as a mark on the surface - parawood is a hardwood derived from "spent" rubber trees). The construction and sizing of this product meet my specific needs quite well, so I plan to order a leather or felt pad to cover the entire desktop. That'll add $100-plus to the investment in this desk. Had I known I'd spend this up front, I'd have ordered a different product. The irony is, I am still happy with the overall product - just very disappointed in how easily the surface can be damaged. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Great desk, can be difficult to assemble but not bad if you're handy
Size: 70.8*31.5 inch Color: Vintage + Black
After reading some of the horror stories here about assembly, I was not hopeful, but there's no other desk that quite matches these dimensions and amount of tabletop real estate. I bought the one with 4 tabletop panels, it took me an hour to put together solo, but I'm fairly handy and I have some tips in case it helps anyone else: - All the bolts/screws come in one big bag. Dump them all out and organize them by type and length, and put all the washers on them now. Label each pile A through F - Get some anti-seize or put a drop of mineral oil on the tread of each bolt/screw that is going to be screwed into metal, makes it easier to get it in since the materials are alike and will also help when you need to disassemble. - For the very first step, the two interconnecting pieces that goes in between the two rails has tolerances that allows the thing to be screwed together without the two rails meeting completely flush. Push one end against a wall or have someone hold it, then push the two together while tightening down the 6 fasteners so that the rails are right up against each other and perfectly aligned when screwing the cross beams. - Step 2 can be skipped. I don't know why they put the instructions in this order, the 4 corner teethed pieces can be added later, and it's much easier to do so later - Step 3 is adding a number of cross members to the two main rails and the best way to get this going is to put the screws/fasteners in all the way through holes first, then put the cross member up against the screw once you see it peeking out and then hand tighten. Hand tighten everything, don't tighten anything down with tools yet. - Once the frame is put together (sans legs), slide the table top pieces under the framing and use a flashlight to line up the plastic threads under the table tops with the holes in the rails. Just get one aligned in the corner, start screwing in one bolt hand tight, then go to the very opposite corner and rotate/pivot the piece until the other corner is lined up and you can screw that in, then screw everything in. You won't be able to hand tighten these in a way that keeps the in place when you flip it over, so I'd turn it a few times with a tool, but still don't tighten all the way yet - put the corner pieces and legs together by putting the screws that go into the corners first, then putting the smaller bolts that go into the L-shaped supporting leaf off the rail by moving the leg up and down after the corners have been loosely attached - flip the whole desk making sure nothing is too loose, and once it's on the ground, line up all the table top pieces perfectly paying attention to the edges and fitment before going under the desk and screwing down the tabletop. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a screwdriver with a thick handle for this. - finally spread the loose legs of the desk as they probably toed in because of not being tight, and then screw the everything else down. If you're not handy this may take you a while. Knocked a star off for having incredibly hard to read directions that is just a photo and doesn't have any explanation whatsoever. It is also incredibly small in font and and the pictures are hard to make out. ... show more
