Description
This single tone chime has a clear sound that's useful for sound healing, meditation, recording music, or alerting others. It's light and portable to be used for any reason. Comes with a hard poly mallet that brings out a sparkling tone to fill the room. The wood base measures 5 7/8" L x 1 1/8" W x 3/4" H, and the chime weighs 3 ounces overall. The mallet measures 8" L with a 1" round head. In the summer of 1996, Tree Works Chimes was created by Mitch McMichen. It began in his garage in Nashville, Tennessee. The first set of chimes was made with a hacksaw and a hand drill. It didn't look like much, but that was the first step to crafting the perfect set of chimes. When asked about the early days of Tree Works, Mitch replies, "I wasn't trying to start a company. I was trying to find a sound." Since then, TreeWorks Chimes has grown to become the most respected chimes producer in the percussion world - used by top studio and touring drummers as well as percussionists and the top 24 drum corps. These instruments are still handmade in Nashville, Tennessee and are unmatched in craftsmanship and sound quality. (It is of note that Mitch McMichen has earned Gold and Platinum records for his recording work in Nashville. )

I recently worked in an office where there were doors on the cubes, and all the doors sounded the same when knocked upon. More than once, I told someone, "come in," when they were actually knocking on someone else's door... and then heard them enter someone else's cube. Being a natural problem solver, I decided to order one of these lovely chimes to hang on my door, to use as a sort of doorbell. I got lots of compliments on it, and everyone who sat near me thought it was (a) very pleasant and (b) a clever solution. A few months later, someone I didn't know came by. (Later, I learned who he was, and I found out his office was nowhere near mine.) He was very angry and said the chime didn't belong in an office. He was loud enough and acting threatening enough that the folks in the cubes around mine heard everything, and one even came out to try to film what was going on. Then, a member of my staff walked past and said to him, "hey man, could you tone it down?" - because the guy was being very loud and belligerent and probably disrupting others' work. (It wasn't until much later that I realized "tone it down" might've been a pun, but I digress.) Anyway, the angry guy turned around and was all, "and who do you think you are?" to my staff member. Angry guy grabbed at my staff member's torso, trying to grab his badge to find out who he was, and manhandling him harshly, and just generally acting in a manner unbecoming of a civil office worker. After the angry guy stormed off, the cops were called, statements were taken, the angry guy was sent home by his boss, I had a terrible day and got nothing done, and I even missed out on having a pizza lunch with my staff because I was too busy talking to my boss and my boss's boss and angry dude's boss and then sending too many e-mails. A few weeks later, I passed the angry guy in the hall and he wouldn't even look in my general direction. Now, the project I was managing has finished, so I'm in a different office. Anyhow, this is an awesome chime and you should buy it. Made of real American hardwood!

This chime is great value for the cost. I had purchased the chime for meditation purposes. I hit it gently and my ears were filled with its gentle sound. But I saw another great value to this chime. I work with great masses of ppl and needed a better way of calling their attention. Although the sound is light and soft with a gentle tap. A harder tap will produce a loud, crisp sound that will garner attention with much disruption. I just wish for a different type of mallet. A plastic mallet took away from the natural craftsmanship. Maybe a wooden or metal. Also maybe a hook on the side to hold the mallet with the instrument? I would definitely gift this to other teachers and sound healers.

You can hear it from the short video attached (excuse my opinionated cat meowing on the background). The media could not be loaded. I’m a substitute teacher and I like using chimes to get the kids attention. I bought this chime because it was one chime and had a string that I could use to attach it to my clipboard, two things my other chimes did not have. The packaging was amazing and the craftsmanship is great, but my only problem is the sound of the chime. It sounds flat and I hear more clunking from the mallet than I do the chime. In the video I shared, I showed this chime and my other. I first tapped on each one and you can hear the clunkiness on the single chime. The second time I played them, I played them a little harder. My other chimes get louder and louder and you don’t hear the clanking of the mallet as much. But when I did it to the single one, most of what I could hear is, again, the clunking. Then I played them them again and let them ring and you can tell the one chime isn’t as clear as the other. Unfortunately, it’s enough of a problem to me that I know it will irritate me so I will be returning it.

I love this chime! I own several different chimes from Treeworks and I must say their products are the best. I perform sound therapy and have tried other brands. I read that all the products from Treeworks are individually handmade and I truly believe that. The way the sound resonates is amazing. I own few and I also gifted this to a teacher, moms, and a yoga instructor and they all loved it. Highly recommend.

I'm a teacher and I bought this to replace an old and less than ideal hand bell. The size and sound are perfect for my needs in my elementary classroom and I love the craftsmanship that went into the making of this chime. I like it so much I bought another as a parting gift for my student teacher.

The sound is clear and bright, but doesn't seem to ring out for very long. I discovered that the chime was not aligned properly out of the box and after some manual adjustment I got it to ring out up to around 3 seconds, which still doesn't feel as satisfying as I had hoped. There are no instructions for this product anywhere, so I emailed Treeworks for advice but never heard back. I am happy to support American manufacturing, but the lack of customer support is disappointing. For those who care, the packaging is very fancy and would work well for a gift. Just don't expect too much from the sound.
