I bought my first set of Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside suitcases 3 years ago, a size 21" (carry-on) and a 25" because I travel extensively (roughly 50 flights a year). A year later I purchased another 25" Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside suitcase because I frequently need to 2 of the larger suitcases to carry all of my training supplies (I am a trainer for a nationwide company). My checked 25" suitcases are always filled to capacity, typically weighing 45-50 lbs each. In other words, I am very hardon these suitcases. I rarely use rental car shuttles, preferring to walk to the rental car facility when possible for additional exercise, dragging along these filled-to-capacity suitcase. In all these travels, these incredible suitcases have held up. The wheels remain smooth as glass. The airlines have beat them to hell, but they remain fully functional and intact. Recently (2 weeks ago), I had one wheel go out (a bearing issue). I notified Travelpro Customer Support, and they had 4 wheels in the mail to me the next day!!!! The great thing about these suitcases is that the wheels are all interchangeable. You can take wheels off a 21" suitcase and easily put it on a 25" suitcase (can't do that with other brands). These suitcases are built to take a beating, and if they are damaged (especially the wheels), they can be easily repaired. Yes, these are more expensive, but they are worth every penny. My old "popular" brand suitcase would make it about a year before they gave out, typically the wheels. But I could never find replacement wheels for them, so I would have to buy another set. That's when I gave Travelpro a shot, and boy, did they deliver. They are supper lightweight, but somehow super durable. Maximum capacity inside to fit all your belongings. I been a heavily traveler for the last 15 years. I kick myself in the head for not buying Travelpro sooner. ... show more

I travel a lot (United 1K, million-mile flier, lifetime Marriott Titanium member, etc.). I bought this luggage for an expanded trip to Europe. One of the airlines dropped it and the suitcase developed a huge crack. I contacted Travelpro user support. They asked for pictures and ended up sending me a brand new replacement. Update: Several weeks after submitting my warranty claim, I still haven't heard back from Travelpro. I'd heard that their customer service was great, but that's the opposite of my experience. Updating to 1 star. I do not recommend this suitcase. I bought this based on the reputation of travelpro’s products and warranty. However, the zipper pull broke the first time i used the suitcase. I filed a warranty claim with travelpro a week ago, and was promised a response within 2 days. I still haven’t heard back. Outside of the zipper issue, the case feels rather cheap for the price I paid for it. There is enough play from the closure and expansion zippers that the two halves of the shell feel wobbly to eachother and flimsy even though the wheels seem high quality. The fact that it doesn’t have a handle on the bottom also makes it a little awkward to grab from the luggage belt depending on orientation or to lift into the trunk of a car. All-in-all, I regret this purchase. I’ll update my review later if travelpro responds to my warranty claim, but the fact that they still haven’t responded doesn’t inspire hope. ... show more

I bought the elite medium sized and paid over $300 for it. Looked beautiful when it was new. I took it on two trips in the US and the suitcase looks terrible. Every metal corner is dented, marked and separating from the hard shell. There are scratches and stained marks on the shell that won’t come off with scrubbing. I am so disappointed in the poor quality and I cannot return it at this point. Stay away from this brand in the hard shell at least. I owned a hard shell that cost less than 100 bucks and it didn’t have the metal corners but held up beautifully and still looks great so I’m just so baffled by this expensive well-rated brand being junk!! ... show more

    • Travelpro Is My Luggage of Choice

I had the Travelpro Crew softside luggage set (carryon, medium check-in, and what I called the coffin) from 2016 until this year when I decided to go to the hardside set for the organization and compartments. The Crew is still in great shape after 200+ flights so I was able to give it to my mother. I've now used the Platinum Elite hardside set for about 10 trips (ski trips, overseas to Asia and Europe, domestic, etc.). I'm amazed at how well it has held up. Even the medium check-in can easily hold well over 50+ lbs. and still roll like a dream over cobblestones. The rollers on the Platinum Elite are definitely a step up from the Crew but still have issues over high pile carpeting (which rolling luggage set doesn't?) in hotel hallways. I would definitely recommend this set. I've traveled 1.5M airmiles over 30 years and I've always used Travelpro. The Rimowa luggage set I was gifted years ago is still sitting in my closet. ... show more
