You should not buy this if you are easily frustrated dealing with fiddly hardware, this thing is an exercise in annoyance. I have no idea what firmware it comes stock with, but I was able to flash the iceman firmware without issue. Knocked off a star because whatever it's shipped with reports the onboard flash memory as 256K. It *is* 512K, but you have to flash a newer 256K firmware first, then flash the 512K firmware if you want to use everything. I originally cloned the iceman github repo and flashed latest; it is not stable with that firmware (frequent dropouts from USB, poor interpretation of signal, etc). Flashing an April 2026 release version instead, it seemed to work great. Make sure you compile for P3GENERIC, not RDV4. Most HF/Mifare cards do not fit well on this device. You will get constant Auth1 and "card not selectable" (card can't be found) issues, so you'll probably have to repeat reads/writes until you can validate that it is the same across both. However, this is a pretty standard feature of the device, and I'm not sure any other clone board would be any different. If you like to tinker with hardware or finicky hardware, this is the device for you. Flashing it, with some trial and error, is relatively easy. HOWEVER, make sure you fully read the instructions and warnings (e.g. for Modem Manager on Linux) for flashing BEFORE you do so. If you don't, you can brick the device and it may become very difficult to rescue.

I installed the Proxmark3 client for this RFID communication device on macOS 15.7 using Homebrew. The latest version does not currently include a graphical user interface, and I did not attempt to find one. It was necessary to update both the bootloader and firmware to bypass a non-descriptive error encountered when attempting to connect to the device. I'm no RFID expert, but it seems Proxmark3 has commands for everything you could ever want to do with an RFID tag. I was able to read the included sample tags without any issues. I also tried a Keri PKT-10X tag (not included), which was finicky but eventually misrecognized as a Paradox tag. After a few dozen attempts, I wasn't able to read the tag with the command that reads only Keri tags. There may be room for improvement in the LF antenna, and this may not be the best option if you work with Keri frequently. There's definitely room for improvement in the documentation, but the product description made it clear this isn't for beginners.

I am an electrical engineer that has a side job as a penetration tester for networks and time card punches within large warehouses and manufacturing plants. These warehouses and manufacturing plants use RFID tags for their employees to clock in and out for their shift start, lunch, breaks, and clocking out. They also use the RFID cards for access to different places within their establishment. A friend of mine is the general manager of a local manufacturing plant nearby. I offered to do a free penetration test on their RFID system throughout their plant. That's where this wonderful piece of equipment comes in, the Proxmark3 RDV. First and foremost, I would like to say that this device is built specifically for sniffing, reading, and cloning RFID tags. This is the perfect piece of equipment to determine faults in an RFID system. However large or however small the system. Using this device, I discovered seven faults that went undetected for years at this plant. The proxmark functioned perfectly to provide these results. The functionality of the device is spot on. After I closed all of the faults and reconfigured their RFID system, I saved all of the information for the general manager on the internal storage capacity of 512 MB. Which is plenty of room to save thousands of RFID faults or card information. The value for the money is definitely there. The number one controllable in any workforce is labor. If there is any sort of Labor discrepancy, it can lead a business into the ground. By knowing and fixing the faults, also knowing who is accessing areas where they do not have permission via their RFID tag, is paramount as well. So once again I would say that the value for the money is there. The device itself is very easy to use and the instructions are very clear. I would definitely recommend reading the instructions and using the software provided on the flash drive in the package to familiarize yourself with this device before first official use. Once you understand the basics of it, it is very easy to use. Like I previously mentioned, there are instructions. If for whatever reason you have questions, you can always reach out to the manufacturer and they are a wonderful bunch of very knowledgeable customer service and technical service people. Just based on what I discovered at this plant and did the math to see how much this would save the plant financially if this was caught several years ago, it was almost $1 million of labor savings. I won't go into much detail but the one thing I can say, and to give reference, there were employees clocking in,out, lunch, and breaks for other employees using cloned cards. With the Proxmark, I was able to narrow down the employees doing said action, now I can fix the system accordingly. Overall, I have to say that I am extremely satisfied with this device and its operation. Not only does it do high frequency but it does low frequency as well. There are very few cards in the world today that cannot be detected by this device. I can with complete confidence recommend this to any pen. tester out there that is looking for a trustworthy and perfectly operational device to maintain an RFID system. On one last note, I must mention that this is for penetration testing only. Any use of this for malicious behavior is a federal offense in the United States. So just don't do anything out of line. I would definitely suggest picking this up if you're in the need of it because these go fast and don't return to the market very often. One final thought, if you suspect anything going on out of line with your RFID system pick this up and use it. Save yourself not only money but a headache later on.

This is a very programmable reader/writer. I appears to be well made. and registers when I install it onto my PC. A few times I got it to respond and report its state and address. Other times, I got an error stating that it was sending any data. I am new to this type of reader, and will have to learn how to use this - I have RFID door locks, ID Badges, and more, and have always wondered how to tell what they are programmed to. I am not sure about the storage capacity, but it comes complete with a USB A to USB Micro cable and USB Flashdrive with the progam and drivers on it. I think this is a great value for the price, once you learn how to use it and apply all the advanced principles that this reader has to offer to help strengthen your RFID security. Not for the impatient or unskilled - possibly a good programming learning tool.

The Proxmark3 Easy V5.0 is a serious piece of hardware, clearly aimed at users who already have some RFID and technical background. It handles both LF (125 kHz) and HF (13.56 MHz) cards reliably, and the built-in antenna does a good job reading full card data without constant repositioning. I tested it with several common tags, and detection and analysis were consistent. Where this device shines is flexibility. It supports a wide range of cards and offers deep functionality for reading, sniffing, analyzing, and cloning, especially when paired with the official software and documentation. That said, it’s not plug-and-play. Setup takes time, and you’ll need patience to learn the commands and workflows. Overall, it’s a solid, capable Proxmark3 variant with good hardware and memory capacity. If you’re doing RFID research, security testing, or learning access-control systems, it’s a good value. Just don’t expect an easy experience if you’re brand new to RFID.

It supports both low frequency and high frequency work in one unit, which makes it useful for learning, testing, and research within appropriate and authorized environments. The hardware feels solid, and storage capacity is sufficient for working with multiple projects. This is not a consumer plug and play product. Setup and use require technical knowledge and familiarity with RFID concepts. For experienced users who know what they are doing and need a capable portable tool, it performs as expected.
