Many rfid systems have progressed beyond the point of these devices helping in any way. sure it works for some basic intended purposes, but too limited to be universally recommended.

I bought this RFID reader/writer mainly because we recently upgraded several cabinets in our kitchen, bathroom, and storage areas to RFID electronic locks—and quickly realized the original set only came with one or two key cards. This little device turned out to be exactly what I needed. The design is simple and clean. It has a compact white plastic body, about the size of a slightly thicker phone, so it’s easy to hold and doesn’t take up much space on the desk. It comes with a USB cable and free software, and my package even included a few blank RFID cards and key fobs, which made it ready to use right out of the box. It’s comfortable enough to use for a while without feeling awkward. What really impressed me is the multi-frequency support. It handles common low frequencies like 125KHz and 250KHz, as well as some 13.56MHz cards. Most of my cabinet locks use standard 125KHz chips, and this reader had no trouble recognizing and copying them. The process itself is very straightforward. You scan the original card, place a blank card on the reader, and click “Write” in the software. That’s it—done in just a few seconds. I made more than ten duplicate cards in one sitting, and it saved me a lot of hassle. The cloned cards work just like the originals. The locks respond quickly and consistently, with no failed reads so far. It feels reliable enough for everyday use around the house. One thing to keep in mind is that the reading range is fairly short—you need to hold the card within a few centimeters of the device for it to register. Also, the casing is plastic, so I try not to drop it or handle it too roughly.

This seems like a complete kit, liked it should work, but I regularly make new key cards for work and thought it would be nice to have a back up - I just can't seem to get this one to work. I feel like it should, so I wonder if I'm just doing something ridiculously wrong, even though I've copied key cards for years. I will update my review if something changes but unfortunately, I just don't have unlimited time while I'm there to keep at it so it might take a while.
