  • tplinkwifi.net probably is not an Internet address, but your antivirus might think so
Style: AX1500 WiFi 6 Router
Mharvic sounded very competent, which is something I can't say about Tech Support of other electronic-communications-oriented companies I've dealt with. But he also seemed a bit impatient with some of my systems-security concerns. I'm certainly not an expert about communications networks. My concern especially was about the fact that my Kaspersky Antivirus blocked my access to whatever I was supposed to access with the tplinkwifi.net URL to set up my TP-Link Archer AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 (Archer AX10) vers. 1.26 router. My Kaspersky Antivirus said, "One or more of this website's certificates are invalid. This happens when the website's owner hasn't updated the certificate in time, or if it's a fake site created by scammers. Visiting a website like this makes you more vulnerable to attack." My concern was also influenced by an Amazon.com customer review of another router of yours which touted some "OneMesh" feature. The review said buying that router was a bad idea because TP-Link is a company located in China and that the TP-Link "OneMesh" router in question used an SSID in the router along with a password that the consumer/owner would be completely blind to. The implication seemed to be that TP-Link could be a rogue corporation subject to control by the Chinese government or perhaps that independent hackers could somehow get access to that SSID and password and that the SSID and password could be used for surreptitious, nefarious purposes. So when my Kaspersky Antivirus blocked access to tplinkwifi.net, I was concerned that TP-Link may perhaps be a rogue corporation oblivious to, and in disregard of, international conventions for Internet security and privacy. But I finally decided with Mharvic that I could try using the IP address 192.168.0.1 for set-up purposes with a browser. So we ended the call with the idea that I would try that approach. I tried it and it worked very well without any peep from my Kaspersky Antivirus. But there is still a lot that I don't understand about the working of networks and about the router management options. My impression and ___GUESS___, in this case, is that a domain name server (somewhere) is supposed to respond to the domain name tplinkwifi.net with the IP address 192.168.0.1, which, when used, is intercepted by my tp-link router and that the network connection goes no further, not even to my modem, and that my Kaspersky Antivirus assumed that tplinkwifi.net is an address for some website on the Internet and that there could be a security issue because it could not find a certificate for the tplinkwifi.net domain name. My concern was also heightened by the fact that my computer has been attacked by a ransomware attack or a ruse or scam suggesting I was hit by a ransomware attack, and the problem was so persistent and puzzling that I had to wipe my disk drive and restore from an image backup several months to a year old. It might be worth noting that a crook could make all the verbal assurances in the world that there is nothing to worry about, but, in principle, that does not prove that there is nothing to worry about. ... show more

  • I highly recommend TP-LINK routers over any other router out there
Style: AX1500 WiFi 6 Router
I had an older TP-LINK router that I really loved with absolutely no issues with it but wanted to upgrade to this model (AX1500) for the newer 5Ghz WiFi. Positives: 1. Reliable Wireless signal. No daily, weekly, monthly reboots. These TP-LINK routers are way more reliable than those other brands imho. 2. UI Interface is hands down the best in the industry for simplicity and ease of use. I cannot tell you enough how important a good UI is. I absolutely love this UI compared to those other brands. 3. It just works Negatives: I really don't have any - I'm sorry I work in IT for the last 26+ years and this is a router I always recommend to anyone and so far no complaints. I've had two Netgear R7000 Nighthawk routers that is recognized as a highly recommended router but I will say my first one was faulty out-of-the-box and the second one became problematic after it's 2nd year in-service where I had to reboot it quite a few times per month. The UI Interface is absolutely horrid. I even went the route of putting an open source UI on it and it just caused it to have more problems. Was not worth the trouble. ... show more

  • Good coverage, undesirable behavior
Style: AX1500 WiFi 6 Router
The Wifi signal coverage is good. The control over Wifi capabilities is good. The excessive DNS lookups for various domains is not good. I worked around it using unbound dns and setting a high min-ttl but an appliance should not be doing arbitrary lookups of domains for health checks. They should be using domains they own and maybe even have a remote site health dashboard that allows disabling or adding custom domains in the event the Wifi device is used on a non-internet routable private network. ... show more

  • Is it typical for a router to last only 2 years before faltering?
Style: AX1500 WiFi 6 Router
This home router is easy to set up but didn't cover to a back bedroom. Added a wifi extender which has helped, however after 28 months, it is not putting out a reliable signal. I suspect that these items are built with planned obsolescence.

  • Amazing product!
Style: AX1500 WiFi 6 Router
We kept having trouble with our wi-fi switching on and off. Our internet provider sent us a new router that worked for a while, but started doing the same thing. I found that reviews were very good for the new router that I purchased and that the price was reasonable. It works great! Set up instructions were easy to follow. I would highly recommend this router, especially if you have multiple devices that use wi-fi. ... show more
