This paddle set has the "quad-fecta:' good spin, speed, control and rubber. While it ranked high with other paddle sets that I have tested, I ultimately went with this one because the price was the most budget friendly. The amount of spin a table tennis paddle is able to put on the ball depends entirely on its surface. Spin is generated when the paddle momentarily grabs or hugs the ball, so softer and tackier surfaces are best. Harder rubbers don’t provide spin. This is why some ping pong paddles have two different sides that play different. This is especially common with custom ping pong paddles. The softer, smooth side provides the spin or grab while the harder rubber can provide speed and power. Depending on the paddle, you could also have a ribbed or pimpled side that provides the control/grip. The thicker the sponge the faster the paddle. It’s just that simple. Faster paddles will have a sponge about 2 millimeters thick. Conversely, if you’re looking to slow your opponent down and play a more defensive oriented game, look for a thinner sponge. The rubber also plays a role in ping pong paddle speed. The universal rule is that harder rubbers play faster while softer rubbers slow the game down (and provide a degree of spin). So, if you play an aggressive style of ping pong, are always on the attack and never pass up an opportunity to hit a game winning passing shot - then a harder rubber may be for you. As for control, typically, table tennis rackets with high speed and spin levels tend to have a low control rating. The higher the speed, the lower the control - that’s the best way to think of it. Ping pong paddles with super speed and spin require the player to provide their own sense of control. Essentially, if you’re good enough to play with a racket that has a speed rating of 115, then you’re probably good enough to apply control and defensive tactics on your own without any help from the paddle because you’ve mastered technique and form already. The rubber on your paddle is what brings the whole thing together. It’s what gives your paddle the rating it gets for Spin, Speed and Control. Good rubbers will last 80 to 100 hours or a year for casual players. If you’re more advanced and play on a daily basis, 6 months is more of a realistic time frame before your rubber “goes dead” or loses its grip. And once a ping pong paddle rubber goes dead, it’s done. You can’t get it back, it’s to time replace it. ... show more

I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this set. The paddles are not the thin ones you usually get with a less expensive set. They are nice and thick with great ball spin action on every shot. You get enough spare balls in 2 different weights for indoor or outdoor play and a nice case for traveling with your pong stuff. Having only played ping pong a few times, I was looking for a set of paddles that were a good value to be able to teach my young daughter how to play. I chose this set because I didn’t want to just buy a cheap set of paddles but wasn’t looking to spend a whole lot either. I love that it included balls and a storage case. This set is well constructed and I was very pleasantly surprised by its value. These paddles seem to be good for people first starting out but also a serious ping pong player. I was looking for an activity for the family to help pass the time during the Pandemic and always wanted a Ping Pong table. The problem with the table is that it didn't come with paddles or balls so I ran into this set and figured why not. The price looked good. What I did not realize with this set is how good it was. I thought it would be beginner st best based on price and boy was I wrong. Nice paddles, nice and tacky., quality balls and nicely packaged. Purchased this along with a ping-pong table. I'm certainly not an expert on table tennis equipment, but it seems to be of a good quality. Each paddle has two grippy sides, for adding spin, I suppose. It took us a couple of days to realize that the instructions intended for us to take of the clear coating covering the paddle to get to this surface. Nice case, a bit of a smell, but that is going away as we air out the paddles. Nice to have a full set of four paddles as this price point. ... show more

I bought these for my less-descerning guests who don't need to play with an $80+ paddle. Unfortunately, they are the worst paddles I have ever purchased. Right out of the package, the rubber feels worse than paddles I've had for years whose rubber is toast. These have absolutely no stick at all. Super slick. I also bought a different set for less money from "Feed the Fit" (check them out) and am keeping those; not great, but at least the rubber is tacky and you can get some spin. ... show more
