  • BIG tough kneepads
I bought these kneepads because they are similar to the guards I wear when riding motorcycles and I like the style. I work in construction doing finish carpentry I spend all day up and down, running around and crawling on my knees so I needed something that allows easy movement and great protection without binding up and causing irritation in the back of my knee. The thigh support puts the strap above the knee which is much more comfortable since it removes the pinch I get when kneeling. These take a little time to break in just like a new pair of shoes, I hope they last a long time, they offer superior comfort for working on my knees. The velcro straps take a little adjustment to get just the right fit but after that they stay where you put them. The only drawbacks for me are first the bulk, the knee pads looked much smaller in the picture (they are BIG) you might get a few strange looks and comments, second the outer shell looked softer, trying these on at home I was moving around like I normally would and realized that the hard plastic shell scuffed my wood floor (granted it is a cheap floor, thats why I tried it there first) but I can't use these in every situation for fear of scratching a customers brand new hardwood floor. Third drawback, there is an extra "heel" on the front of the knee pad as a shin guard I guess, but it gets in the way of leaning back to sit on my feet to take some weight off my knees (I recently adopted this habit as a way of extending my shoe life, normally I would bend my toes when kneeling but this motion stresses my shoes to the point of ripping) but again this is also a matter of adapting to a new type of kneepads. ... show more

  • Amazing so far but too soon to truly rate durability
I just received these as an upgrade to my previous multiple brands of kneepads. I chose to upgrade due to the pain and discomfort of standard kneepad straps bunching up behind my knee which puts pressure on the tendons as well as rolling into a large pile of fabric and straps directly behind my knee. The straps above and below the knee are amazing so far. The shin protrusion to relieve pressure from your feet seems to be a nice addition also although it will require some getting used to after 45 years of using standard kneepads. I purchased these for multipurpose use but much of it will be alongside vegetable garden beds. The outer knee cups are rigid plastic. They appear to be a softer material in the images but they are in fact a slightly textured black plastic. To test initial durability I dropped from a standing position to my knees without any support from my arms. I felt almost nothing in my knees from that quite extreme impact on a cement basement floor. The only sensation I had was the impact caused by the sudden jarring stop which is so be expected. For reference I am 5'9" tall and about 165 pounds. That made the drop from standing directly to my knees around 2-2.5 feet. Very Impressive! I only wish Toughbuilt offered a version of these kneepads with the interchangeable knee cup covers that snapped off and on like their more standard ones. It would be a huge benefit to be able to add a soft non-marring type cap cover, a rubber footed stability cap or even replace the hard plastic cup after they wear out. The rigid plastic only caps may be an issue on a smooth and slippery floor like marble, ceramic, smooth laminate flooring or laying roofing. I will try to update my review for durability of the product after I am able to put in hours of use. I rated Durability at 4 stars already just based on the perception of build quality and the drop to my knees test causing almost no marks at all on the caps and almost no discomfort. My opinion at this point... Highly Recommended! This is an upgrade that you will not regret if you get tired of the pain behind your knee from standard kneepad straps ... show more

  • Best knee pad I've ever used.
I work for a foundation company, where I'm in crawlspaces on a daily basis. I have bad knees due to multiple injuries and a motorcycle accident, and one of my knees has a total knee replacement. It's not an easy task moving around on my knees and they hurt without some form of protection on them. I have tried many style and brand pads, and many have 'helped' but none were perfect. Most with the single strap behind the knee would shift, slide down, or worse rotate and make crawling difficult. That all changed when I tried these pads. The double strap design holds them in place all day. The fact the strap is not in the fold of the back of the knee means all day comfort. The thigh support makes it easy to be upright on your knees and still maintain balance. The ergonomic design means the cap of the pad makes good contact with the ground. If you are in an industry where you work on your knees or have a need for knee pads, these are the way to go. Well worth every penny. Durability is up there as well. Mine look as if they have been through a war and back, and still work and feel like the day I bought them. No more knee pain at the end of the day from my job. ... show more

  • Tough knee pads
1. I like these knee pads. 2. They are easy on, but can be a challenge at times to remove. 3. They appear to be well made. I have used them for about 2 weeks on smooth surfaces and gravel as well. 4. They are comfortable to wear for extended periods. Although I would not want to wear them for a straight 24 hour period. 5. The outer knee surface that comes in contact with the surface/ground, etc. will not keep you locked in one position and can slide you along glass like surfaces. 6. These pads are well made and protect your knees extremely well. 7. Then again, the color being bright yellow allows you to be seen coming from a long way off. I would not wear them if you are trying to hide in plain site, you will be detected. On the whole I strongly recommend these as a very useful tool. I would call these a good 4.5 stars. NOTE: I have been using these knee pads for a few tile jobs and have noticed that velcro strips need a better attachment method, on my pads several of the sewn on strips have segments that are beginning to tear out the cloth beneath them. TAKE CARE ON HOW YOU REMOVE THE PADS AFTER USE, THIS IS A POINT OF FAILURE. On the other hand, these are still superior knee pad. ... show more

  • Best Knee Pads I've Ever Owned - Construction
I'm a stone mason and spend plenty of time on hard, uneven surfaces in all weather and with any number of layers of clothes on, and sometimes a lot of sweat going on, too. I've been buying and wearing kneepads for over 10 years. I've hated them all. Some have at least been acceptable enough not to make me want to light them on fire immediately, but most of them slip around too much and chafe the back of my knees where the straps rub. Some give rashes even through thick Carhartts. They've all been awful, but they're just a fact of life, and I've dealt with discomfort and annoyance for a long time. These knee-pads, on the other hand, came highly recommended from another friend in construction, and they have literally changed my working life. No pinching or rubbing behind the knees--at all. And once you learn to adjust them the right way for your body, you really don't have to fuss with them much. (For me, snug on the bottom strap, looser on the top one, or my thigh will push them down too far.) They stay where they should. They move with you. The hinge on the side is key. You will feel like Robocop when you first put them on, but after a day or two you will forget they are there. I bought expensive gel kneepads at Lowe's last year thinking I was upgrading. I hated those things SO MUCH (more than the cheap ones) that I stopped wearing them after a week even though I was kneeling in gravel at work, and I gave myself bursitis in both knees that took two months to heal. PLEASE BUY THESE KNEE PADS IF YOU ARE UP AND DOWN FROM KNEELING. They are fantastic. My knees and skin feel great, and they don't distract me from my work. ... show more

  • Best Kneepads I've used in my life. Easy 3 years of use.
I've had these since august of 2020 and there was a month or two that they were mildly uncomfortable while i was breaking them in. The straps when wearing shorts would scratch the back of my leg, but over time the fabric of the straps loosened and the velcro became limper and the problem disappeared. They don't smell putrid after all this time and i can wear them for 8-12 hours straight and feel like I'm wearing nothing. They have protrusions at the base of them that act as a shim for your shins and help keep your feet more comfortably positioned. The best thing is that they have the upper band that straps around your thigh and helps hold the kneepads far more firmly in place, as well as provides a little extra protection and lateral support to your knees. After all this time i use them nearly daily and the gel and cloth covering of the gel haven't worn down in any meaningful way, but the gel has comformed to my knees a bit providing me extra comfort. I'm finally wearing little holes through the plastic of them, but they're still providing plenty of protection and i can see them providing another year easily. ... show more

  • My poor experience
I am a motor home mechanic and wear knee pads all day every day. I bought these knee pads based on the reviews hoping they would be a good buy due to their higher cost. Here is what I experienced. Pros -knee pad portion is very comfortable when in proper position. Cons -could never keep pads in position. Had to adjust or pull up every time I got up to walk and kneel back down. -If pads were not in exact correct position when kneeling down the hinge support mechanism was awkward and uncomfortable. -bulky -slippery. If you are on a smooth surface or slope, hang on because you are not staying where you want to be. There is no stick or traction on these things. It is like a sled on a slippery slope. -The main body and upper support are made of durable hard plastic but the hinge joint is made into some sort of fabric? Failed at joint after about 4 months of use. -Warranty is only effective if you registered your product within 30 days of purchase. Wish I had seen that part. In the trash they go. ... show more

  • The best for bad knees
Like a lot of people my age I have bad knees and finding knee pads that help relieve pain is a nightmare. Kneeling on the Toughbuilt gel pads is like floating in water. After an 8 hour day of laying tile, floor boards, or scraping up glued on flooring I have no pain in my knees. These were the 10 pair of knee pads I have tried and are the last ones I will get. That is as long as they only make them better and not worse. My only issue is like so many others have said the Velcro straps. I wish there could be a way to swap out or change the length of them. When I first got them in 2020 I had larger legs due to riding my bike 80 miles a day. Now I can’t do that anymore and my legs have gotten smaller it is hard to get a snug fit from the straps. I even bought a new pair but strap length is the same. Hopefully this is something the company may change and make the product even better. I also wish I could get the flat pads for this set. Anyway I highly recommend buying these as they have held up to 3 years of 40 hour work weeks with little change to comfort or protection. ... show more
