The toy excavator is built tough, looks real and satisfies all the criteria I was looking for. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was after I received the digger, I read the directions and placed the battery (Provided) in the remote control unit and charged the batteries (Provided) in the unit and tried it out before wrapping the item as a gift. All functions were OK except the right hand drive track didn't respond to the controller. This prevented the excavator from moving the tracks forward or reverse and instead made it go around in circles. I understand the reasons could be many and the vendor is not responsible so I am returning the unit and getting the same model again because I don't believe this to be a common error. The toy is too nice of a product to fail again so we'll see. I will update the results as soon as I get the new one. I received the new excavator yesterday,11/14/13 and it arrived two days before the ship date stated by Amazon on the day shipped. After unpacking and inspection, everything looked good and after opening the remote controller placed the one 9 volt battery inside. Then after I opened the battery compartment in the excavator itself, there was a battery rack for 4 AA batteries which was different than the original which had a rechargeable battery pack. It's not unusual for manufactures to improve their products but funny that they included the chargeable batteries and the charger but they cannot be used because the wiring harness is removed. (You have to provide 4 AA batteries) Anyhow, after all this with batteries all installed, it operated perfectly, with two levers on the controller, which when both levers are pushed up, the tractor treads go forward, pulling back it goes in reverse. Pulling just one lever up or down with turn the unit on a dime. A single button on the top of the controller will cause the excavator's arm to extend (as long as you hold the button) all the way out and return with the bucket scraping the surface. The bucket either curls in or out depending on distance the arm is out. Another switch will turn the entire cab and arm to spin around so it mimics the real thing! Any little boy 4 and up will go gaga over this and maybe some girls also. You can't go wrong with this for the money! Since it is light, actual dirt or sand use would not be practical so I plan on using Cheerios as a replacement for the bucket to lift! ... show more

FINAL UPDATE 08.10.2015-I received a different replacement toy from Top Race, a remote controlled acrobatic cartoon plane, free of charge within 3 days of talking to Top Race. The replacement toy is very nice and sturdy. I once again raised my star rating to 3 stars solely on customer service, not the initial product I received which was the dump truck. I'm glad Top Race reached out to find out why I rated the dump truck as a 1 star. It was very thoughtful that they sent a gift for my grandson (he hasn't tried it out yet) due to being dissatisfied with the quality and description of the dump truck. Thanks, Ben at Top Race. UPDATE 08.05.2015-I raised my star rating from a 1 star to a 3 star solely based on customer service. I was just contacted by Ben with Top Race. He inquired as to why I rated the product as a 1 star and I explained, just as you'll see below in my initial review. He was insistent on finding out what he could do to make me a satisfied customer since I didn't call them initially before posting a review (as he reminded me the customer service number was on the box). He and I discussed my concerns about the product description and how misleading or vague it was. He stated he was going to go to the proper department to discuss this further and see if they could update the product description based on my complaints. He offered, as a peace offering, to send my grandson a different Top Race replacement toy free of charge due to me being inconvenienced. Therefore, I thought it was fair to raise the rating simply for customer service. Not many companies reach out to dissatisfied customers looking to make things right and try to revise their listing to make it more accurate. INITIAL REVIEW: I purchased this truck for my grandson's birthday gift. It just arrived and, as always, I open things up to inspect them before giving them as a gift. Be careful in believing the reviews as it seems most reviewers received a discount for their reviews. The truck is made out of cheap plastic as well as the remote control which is extremely lightweight. I'd say one drop on a hard surface such as concrete and the remote would crack. It feels very hollow. The buttons on the remote rattle when lightly shaken. Definitely not worth $30. I am returning this item pronto but not-so-much for what I described. The biggest complaint is the sounds in which the description indicates the truck makes. Not true. The remote is where the sounds come from and it's quite annoying! Very loud, fuzzy noises with music. The truck itself makes no sounds at all. I couldn't believe it. The truck has only lights where the driver seat is. A flashing light that changes from red to blue. That's it. If you look closely on the front of the box, it's quite clear that the truck's headlights are lit up. False. There are only red plastic covers where the headlights are but no lights at all. I can put my finger underneath the truck behind the red plastic cover and there's a small hole where I can see my finger. Nothing at all there. Extremely misleading and I'm not sure how the company is allowed to depict such a false picture of the product's features that don't exist. Garbage! ... show more

I really hope the company sees this because after the disappointment on my sons face christmas morning when the thing wouldnt work, I think they need to make it right!! First off i put brand new batteries in the excavator and it wouldnt work, then I receive an email telling me ice gotta bend and work on the positive battery side in order for the batteries to fit and for it to get power. After doing that it works and then doesnt work, you have to poke and prod at it every single time!! Then after finally gettig it running the first time I notice one of the tracks is so stretched out it wont stay on so it falls off every couple inches that it moves. Total disappointment and absolutely not satisfied especially having to tell my son that some gifts santa brings just dont work the way they should!!!! Update!!!! I just wanted to update my review because the company deserves it. After my review, even tho i hadnt even tried reaching out to them, they went out of their way and sent us a new excavator for my son. This one worked perfectly, no issues at all. And the best part is...it was already delivered when my son found it sitting on the porch. He truly believes that Santa paid him a special visit to bring him a new toy!!! His face was priceless. Top notch family ran business and i will definitely purchase from them again!!! ... show more
