  • Fine tip pen, great quality

The media could not be loaded. It’s a comfortable pen, used it for my journaling and it didn’t hurt my hand one bit

  • Tombow v. Kuretake v. Sakura
Color: Black Size: 1 PK
I'm torn between a 4 and 5 star review. As much as I want to give it 5 stars, what holds me back from doing so is the ink. For its price and all the hype (hand-letterers RAVE about this brush pen), I expected the ink to 1) be darker (opacity), 2) not smudge and 3) not bleed as much as it does. See attached photos for smudges on hands and bleeding on regular paper. Having said that, it is still my favorite brush pen I've used for larger lettering. I've also tried the Sakura brush pen and the Kuretake brush pen. See photos for comparison. I wouldn't recommend Sakura's brush pens (though, I love their Micron pens!) as mine dried out very quickly and also had bad fray, which is evident in my lettering. I really like the Kuretake brush pens--the point is stiffer and feels "sturdier" so I don't worry about fraying the tips, and the ink is nice and juicy. The downside to stiffer tips is that you don't get the nice thick downstrokes that you get with a softer tip, like the Tombows. I prefer the Tombow just slightly over the Kuretakes because my handwriting comes out just a tad nicer with the Tombows. If you're just starting out, though, I'd recommend the Kuretake brush pens--they're cheaper with a slightly stiffer point which allows for more control in your lettering. Update: reduced to 3 stars. I've had the pen for about a week and the tip is fraying; pen is not as inky as it was. I've only used it on about 3-4 occasions. Meanwhile, my Kuretake pens (which I've had for about a month or so) are still going strong and the tips show no sign of fray. See "believe you can" photo to see comparison between Tombow (black) and Kuretake (green), written today. Photos may not show clearly but Tombow lettering has streaky/dry upstrokes. ... show more

  • I really like this brush
Color: Black Size: 1 PK
So I am a calligraphy novice and have recently been obsessed with the look brush pens give off. I have bought several pens and markers, including a Primacolor brush marker in black (which I don't recommend). The Tombow dual brush is incredible. First off, the dual tips help switch from thick to thin quickly; the thinner tip tends to go through the paper a little bit only depending on how hard you press and what sort of paper you are using. I have not seen the ink spread very much, again, this depends on paper weight. I have been using the pen everyday for the last week and I have yet to see any splitting in the brush (and I have been practicing for hours). Overall, I really like this brush. I have had it for about two weeks, and I have zero complaints. It's lightweight and thin, so I bring it with me everywhere, and will be using it to address my wedding invitation envelopes! ... show more

  • Not bad i guess
Color: Black Size: 1 PK
so I bought this to color in my manga drawings because I lack markers at the moment. First off it does take a minute to dry because it WILL smudge. Second I found it does not work well with white gel pens. The ink simply absorbs it and its a pale white instead of a fresh white line. Like when a vampire sucks somebody dry in some horror film. Honestly really good aside from that ... show more

  • Quality Pen and Great for Multiple Purposes
Color: Black Size: 1 PK
The pen arrived on-time, and it was not in its own wrapping when I took it out of the package, which I thought to be strange. I ordered the black colored pen, and it is amazing since I am using it for my bullet journal and lettering. The ink flow is consistent, and I enjoy that the pen gives you the option to alternate between a soft tip for lettering and a hard tip for more consistency. I did, however, expect the ink to be darker when it comes out, but it takes several layers to get something completely filled in dark. This is definitely an inexpensive option for those seeking to develop their lettering skills and have a quality pen in their arsenal! ... show more

  • Love the Tombow Brand!
Color: Black Size: 1 PK
I have been handlettering for around two years and tombow brush pens have always been my pen of choice. The reason I only gave them 4/5 stars is because of how easily they fray. With all brush pens it's important to have the right paper or they become quickly frayed, but tombows seem to fray at an accelerated pace (not so quickly that you can't really use them). They have great colors and are very pretty pens. ... show more
