These things are Awesome. If you do any hiking over rough terrain in the snowy winters these are a total must-have. I bought mine for tracking and hunting in Vermont and Connecticut after one too many times slipping and falling down steep hills. I've had Yaktraxs in the past and they quickly fell off my shoes and didn't provide nearly as much traction in deeper or wetter like these did. These ones actually strap over the tops of your boot and stay on snug and dig into loose substrate. I have joint instability in one of my legs and these have helped me avoid so many falls that could have been pretty bad considering. I'm around 240lbs and have walked on concrete and over rocks with these as well and have not had any spikes become bent or broken. I haven't seen any rust except for a small amount on the metal loop for the Velcro strap- the chains and spikes themselves gave been rust-free despite having already used them for several hours for several days. They're pretty easy/self explanatory to put on, just make sure you buy the right size for your boots, otherwise they may be too tight to put on or too loose to be secure and effective. ... show more

I'm a men's size 8 boot and the medium size fit the best. These are excellent for icy terrane. These caught my eye in particular compared to the cheap stud cleats because these seem more robust and functional. They provide crazy good traction and grip on the ice. Winter weather is always a huge threat. The snow pack, ice, sleet, and freezing rain all create tremendous risk of injury to anyone moving on those surfaces. As one who took a catastrophic fall on black ice, I learned there is no boot that will keep you safely mobile on ice. Sometimes we just have to get out in inclement weather so being prepared is wise. Crampons are a good weapon in the fight for maintaining an upright position. These are compact, fold up and easy to store, so there's really no reason to not have them available in areas that habitually receive dangerous winter weather. This set stretches out and it attaches to the shoe/boot. It is a quick and easy prep to give yourself better odds of avoiding harm. I really like the sturdy metal these are made of and the ease with which they attach. The number of spikes gives me more assurance of a good grab on the ice or snow pack. These spikes are longer than some and give more confidence you are getting better traction and stability. This past winter we had snow, sleet, freezing rain and subzero temps. That all combined for some scary conditions. I put these on to get to the mail box (with my walking poles) and they did very well. I had an older set but the cleats weren't as long and more rounded. I ordered 2 pairs of micro spikes for our trip to Colorado. The XL for me and M for my wife. They both fix perfect. We were in Colorado over the memorial day weekend hiking Bear Lake area and with a fair amount of snow and ice on the ground they were very useful right from the start. The parking lot was a sheet of ice the one morning and the only we could walk was with the micro spikes, game changer. We walked close to 10 miles on them the first 2 days out with no problems. Loves these!! They work great! I was skeptical at first to try them but they are not hard to walk in. I have to walk on pavement to get to the trails in the woods and it was no problem.
