I went with the electric option so that I did not need to have propane to do by backyard smelting. This small enough to keep on a workbench. Cames with the gloves and tongs to handle the crucible. No issues with Crucible after 3 pours. Overall build quality is superb!

Crucible will not drop into the furnace as the top ceramic ring and inner mantle are assembled out of alignment. That alone is a deal breaker, as the furnace cannot be used. The steel top also has razor sharp edges all around, and looks like it was filed into shape by an unskilled worker with an angle grinder. The outer shroud is missing screws--which were stripped and fell out in transit. Crucible tongs don't fit the supplied crucible; the radius of the end of the tongs is clearly meant for a smaller crucible and can't safely hold the 5kg crucible. Update: I tested this to see if it could even do what I needed: melt copper fittings and pipe scraps into ingots. It could not. I also tried pure casting grain. I tried melting approx 1 pound of copper and after 1.5 hours at the maximum setting of 1200C (attained according to LCD display), I had only a glowing lump of mush. It did not reach liquid state and was clearly at a steady state, with no visible change in the last 40 minutes or so of this test. Disappointing. The red-orange glow was also well short of the near-yellow glow I expect when melting copper and copper alloys; it just isn't getting hot enough. If you only need to melt lead, tin, zinc, or aluminum alloys, this may suffice, build quality not withstanding. For copper, brass, bronze.. no go. It's advertised to work for gold and silver too, but if you have enough gold to fill a 5kg crucible, this isn't the tier of furnace you should be looking at.

(My pictures are what it looks like in the box and set up outside of the box/packing materials.) I found this to be a highly functional piece of equipment. I've melted aluminum and copper with it with ease - it melts very fast. Pouring into the casts is nerve-wracking but fun. Nothing was damaged after a few uses so I can only assume it's a durable product. Great smelter for the price!

This definitely isn't a high end unit however it will work on scrap items. It is good for a beginner but you do want to make sure to research what you are doing before just trying to use it.

Plugged in and it immediately threw a “HHHH” error code. Was missing screws in the bottom and does not turn on. Needed this for a project and now I apparently have to wait a month to even get my money back for it via the Amazon return process.

When I got this for my brother as a birthday present, he was blown away by it! I haven't heard any complaints or encountered any problems thus far while he has been experimenting with this smelting. He had never used one of them before, so it did take him a minute to figure everything out. The English translation of some of the instructions is subpar. With the exception of the metal, this smelter is a wonderful beginner set and appears to be reasonably well-made. For someone like my brother, who only melts stuff as a hobby, it works perfectly. So far, it looks like a wise purchase. We will see how it holds up aside from that.

I originally posted a bad review as the furnace stopped working after 3 times and Amazon would not allow me to return. After posting the review the manufacturer reached out and remedied the problem. Great customer service.
