Crucible will not drop into the furnace as the top ceramic ring and inner mantle are assembled out of alignment. That alone is a deal breaker, as the furnace cannot be used. The steel top also has razor sharp edges all around, and looks like it was filed into shape by an unskilled worker with an angle grinder. The outer shroud is missing screws--which were stripped and fell out in transit. Crucible tongs don't fit the supplied crucible; the radius of the end of the tongs is clearly meant for a smaller crucible and can't safely hold the 5kg crucible. Update: I tested this to see if it could even do what I needed: melt copper fittings and pipe scraps into ingots. It could not. I also tried pure casting grain. I tried melting approx 1 pound of copper and after 1.5 hours at the maximum setting of 1200C (attained according to LCD display), I had only a glowing lump of mush. It did not reach liquid state and was clearly at a steady state, with no visible change in the last 40 minutes or so of this test. Disappointing. The red-orange glow was also well short of the near-yellow glow I expect when melting copper and copper alloys; it just isn't getting hot enough. If you only need to melt lead, tin, zinc, or aluminum alloys, this may suffice, build quality not withstanding. For copper, brass, bronze.. no go. It's advertised to work for gold and silver too, but if you have enough gold to fill a 5kg crucible, this isn't the tier of furnace you should be looking at.

I am definitely not a professional smelter but I like to dabble in melting metals into smaller, more manageable scrap. So far I have done some copper which was interesting. I plan on doing some gold scrap later this summer. First of all, be extremely careful with these temperatures! Also, you might need to install a dedicated circuit for this appliance it you might be running to your breaker box often. Crucible is a good size for amateurs and seems if good quality even after a few uses.

I bought the TOAUTO TRF5000 electric resistance furnace as a hobbyist who occasionally melts aluminum for small casting projects. On paper, this looked like a solid all-in-one solution, and to be fair, there are a few things it does right. The kit truly includes everything you need to get started right out of the box, which is convenient. The unit also feels very safe and stable in use—the hexagonal base and overall construction gave me confidence while operating it. From a usability standpoint, it’s also simple and straightforward, even for someone without extensive furnace experience. Unfortunately, the performance and durability issues outweighed those positives for me. Aluminum is supposed to begin melting around 660°C, yet in my experience, the furnace wouldn’t even start melting aluminum unless I cranked the temperature close to 1000°C. That’s a huge discrepancy and raises concerns about either temperature accuracy or heating efficiency. More troubling was the crucible quality. Despite preheating the crucible before every session, it began disintegrating after the very first use, shedding material into the melt and onto the furnace insulation. That’s not just inconvenient—it directly impacts melt quality and long-term reliability of the furnace. Given the price point, I expected better temperature performance and far better crucible durability. While the design is safe, stable, and beginner-friendly, those traits don’t make up for the core issues I experienced. In the end, I don’t feel this furnace is worth the price unless those problems are addressed, and I can’t confidently recommend it based on my experience.
