Description

Take your toaster oven from sidekick to superhero with 100+ streamlined recipes that save time and energy and make your cooking life easier. If you've found yourself only using the toaster oven to toast bread or heat up leftovers, your toaster oven is woefully underutilized. A toaster's abilities are myriad (it can do many things a regular oven can do, and some even air fry), and ATK shows you how to tap into them, from making mini meatloaves, pizza, and a whole roast chicken, to baking individual ramekin desserts. Whether you are a habitual host, the owner of a new toaster oven, or someone with limited space, this is the book for you. Our sheet-pan dinners for two take advantage of every inch of your toaster oven's pan and makes your main dish and sides in one go (think Pork Tenderloin with Green Beans). Or, enlist your toaster oven to... Roast up a vegetable side dish (no jostling for oven space) with recipes for Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and moreBake easy appetizers like wings, empanadas, and granola (tastier and fresher than store bought)Make meals with a range of serving sizes; feeding 1 person to as many as 8Embrace the joys of small-batch baking with freeze-and-bake cookies and scones: bake off a couple at a time and they'll always come out hot and fresh. We draw upon our extensive testing of toaster ovens to help you navigate the variety of models and recipes were tested across a range of models to ensure it will work in yours. Read more

  • Great cookbook
Nice recipe book for my toaster oven

  • ATK hits another home run
I recently purchased the Breville Smart Oven that ATK coincidentally scores highest in their reviews of toaster ovens at the beginning of the book. I live alone in a rental, so I generally cook small meals and have a rental oven that works ok, but can’t be trusted to heat reliably (oven thermometers prove that). Although I can adopt lots of recipes to my oven, I wanted to see what my trusted chefs at ATK had for me in this book. Things to know about this book: -I previously had a smaller, traditional toaster oven that cost about 30 bucks and could hold about two pieces of toast at a time. My new one can hold a small frozen pizza and probably a roast chicken. And that’s really the size of toaster oven that will benefit most from the recipes here. The book recommends using a 13x9 baking sheet and baking pan for many recipes, so consider if this makes sense to you. -Many recipes are scaled down (geared toward servings of two versus a more traditional 4, for example) but you’re often given advice about how to adapt if you want to cook for more servings. -I find cookbook reviews on Amazon vary greatly depending on what the reviewer is used to cooking/eating (“recipes are too fancy!” And “recipes are boring” on the same book!). Here are some sample recipes in the book to help you know what’s in here: -Weeknight Roasted Chicken with Lemon and Thyme -No-Boil Baked Ziti -Baked Crostini w/Oven Jam and Brie -Chicken Souvlaki -Moroccan Fish and Couscous Packets -Glazed Meatloaf -Easy Chicken Enchiladas Generally, this has a great variety of recipes if you like what ATK offers - meat and fish mains with one or two variations on each, casseroles, desserts, breakfasts, sides, and some small batch baking. Most importantly, the recipes include what I love most about ATK books, which is a “why” behind each recipe - why we added oil here, why we have you toast the panko crumbs before coating the meat there. To me, this helps you become a better cook and understand what was changed in adapting a simple recipe like chicken Parmesan to the toaster oven that could help you adapt other recipes that aren’t in this book to the toaster oven. ... show more

  • Gift to my daughter
Gift to daughter, second hand info from her said it was a great book for someone living in an RV or a dorm room. Easy to use, simple enough for a male freshman. :-)

  • Nice Cookbook
This is a nice cookbook from ATK's. It's informative, well written and has some great recipes. With that said, it wasn't what I was looking for. I was more interested in smaller size baking recipes as I find those a bit more challenging to downsize in quantity. It was a bit disappointing that the cookie recipes were for full size recipes with the suggestion of scooping the remaining dough onto a cookie sheet to freeze and use at a later time. Well, I can figure that out for myself. Same with the scone recipe. Most of the main meal recipes, I could figure out how to downsize on my own, so in the end, even though this was a nice cookbook, I returned it. ... show more

  • Not Just a Toaster Oven Cookbook!
Just the info in the front of the book and doing the suggested things alone was worth it. Then I tried some recipes, everything has turned out wonderful and this cookbook is totally worth it. First, I want to say that I have the oven pictured on the cover and it is not just a toaster oven. It is a mini convection oven with multiple settings and uses and totally worth the price. Breville makes a very well designed and useful product, the more I use it, the less I turn on my full-sized oven. I love to think about the savings to my electrical bill. Second, the suggestions to buy a set of racks and certain pans to use for the recipes are worth it. I don't know why, but I did not have pan without handles that fully fits inside the Smart Oven and now that I do, I'm wondering how I lived without it! I have tried the recipe for the Cheese Manicotti, Baked Ziti, Egg Sandwiches, and Loaded Baked Potatoes and a few others that I cannot recall right now. They all turned out excellent and were fairly easy to do. Last nite I baked chicken hindquarters with a rub on them in the Smart Oven because I now feel confident using the oven more, thanks to this cookbook. Now I don't have to turn on my full sized oven nearly as much and I can cook most of my meal in the Smart Oven instead :) ... show more

  • A MUST HAVE
This cookbook “ America’s Test Kitchen -A Smarter Way to Cook on a Smaller Scale” is awesome. This for everyone who has a toaster oven either a newbie like me or a veteran. The pictures for each recipe are beautifully done. There are recipes for everyone whatever you have. I got the spiral book as I don’t have much counter space and can bend it over. It does cost more but for me it was worth every penny.. ... show more

  • Great!!
Filled with easy recipes utilizing a toaster oven. The preference (a complete discussion as to brands and types of toaster ovens and suitable pans, etc is in the book.) as to size and wattage is the Breville (also sold by Amazon) stainless oven. Dinner for two to four (or breakfast or lunch) is simplicity itself. Recipes developed by the magicians at America’s Test kitchen. We almost never use the two big wall ovens we have, holidays excepted. This splendid cookbook has become one of my favorite hostess/thank you gifts. ... show more

  • Recipes made for a specific toaster oven
These recipes are NOT for generic toaster ovens. They were tested on and written for a particular brand/model oven specified at the beginning of the book. Time and temp didn't work for my oven.
