Ideal size: excellent solo minimalist cook pot or mug/bowl/side dish to complement a larger set
The TOAKS LIGHT Titanium 550ml Pot is perfectly sized for solo minimalist cooking OR for a wonderful, mug/bowl-sized compliment to a larger cooking kit. At exactly 70g (2.5 oz) with its included lid, the pot is wonderfully light. At 3-3/4" in diameter, it is just wide enough to perch stably atop my Emberlit Ultralight stove. At 3-1/8" tall, it is just barely short enough to fit under the lid of my MSR Stowaway 1.6L pot and/or the lid of my 1L GSI stainless kettle. As a result, it extends the versatility of my already very flexible cookset. If I'm camping solo and ultralight, this is the only pot I need, with sufficient capacity to boil 2 full cups of water with 3 fl oz. of space to spare (preventing water from boiling over to extinguish my stove or fire underneath). Indeed, with 19 fl oz capacity, it could even eke out enough boiled water to rehydrate a meal for two. If I'm camping with the family, I nest it inside one or both of the other pots I mentioned above, and use this little pot as a handy mug that is sufficiently generous in size for my wife and I to share for morning coffee. Since it's titanium, it can also be set over the coals or an open flame to cook a nice side dish, such as a generous portion of rice or baked beans. The lid is not a friction fit, but it does fit nicely and its grab tab can be slid into a locking groove to ensure it stays upright so you will never have to burn your fingers trying to lift the lid. Small holes in the lid also allow steam to escape, giving you a pretty good idea of when the water is boiling without having to constantly remove the lid to check. This pot could be improved by adding measurement markings on the inside; however, you can always add them yourself, if desired. I may also drill a small hole under the rim on either side of the pot so that I can attach a wire bail handle to hang this over a fire as well. (Smaller pots can be tricky to set over logs; it's easier to hang them.) Some people may also wish for a tighter fitting lid, but on a pot this small and light, I actually prefer the slight looseness, as it makes it easy to remove the lid without potentially tipping/upsetting the pot if it is perched somewhat precariously over the fire. All in all, I think this is the single most versatile size of small pot you're going to find, and I especially appreciate its shorter/wider form factor for better stability on a cook stove than other taller/narrower pots. it's always okay to get excited about a little pot
I purchased the TOAKS Titanium 550ml Pot at the end of November. I've taken it on two trips since that time and it has performed better than any pot or cup I've used before. I've been using the same steel pot for over twenty years. It weighs in at ten ounces. I've been gradually trying to lighten my load and bought the TOAKS pot because it's much lighter (weighs less than three ounces even in the carry bag), it has received excellent reviews, and because it's significantly cheaper than other comparable titanium cups. I was expecting it to be good, but for my purposes it has been more than great. I've been using a homemade alcohol stove made from a SPAM Spread can (same as the Fancy Feast stove). I've never been able to get a decent rolling boil using a steel pot. With the TOAKS pot, I had a rolling boil in under seven minutes, this was with icy cold creek water on a morning when the temperature was around seventeen degrees Fahrenheit. Moreover, the TOAKS cup has a depression in the base that is exactly the right size to fit snuggly on top of my SPAM Spread stove, thus eliminating any kind of balancing worries I've had before. Further, TOAKS cup is the perfect size for my needs. I need it to boil water for soup or Ramen and I need it for coffee and hot chocolate. The TOAKS cup takes care of these needs masterfully. I was raving about how great this cup is to a friend and then I felt silly. I told him that I felt absurd getting so excited about something so insignificant, but he assured me that it's always okay to get excited about a little pot. ... show more

a Ti cup with a lid!
From what I've gathered, this cup was once a popular item called the "BPL 550 Firelite" back when BPL had their own line of gear, and is now sold under the Toaks brand. Assuming it is the same one, it has a large following. It's a great little pot for the solo backpacker. I bought this to compliment my Snow Peak Mini Solo Combo, which at 700ml is a tad bigger than necessary, and I never used the accompanying cup anyhow. I had trouble finding a 500ml pot, because at this size it's basically a large cup and they don't typically come with lids. But alas, the Toaks 550ml with a lid! For a small setup where you just boil water for pre-packaged dehydrated meals and the occasional hot beverage, this is a perfect option. The 550ml size allows you to drink from it as a mug without it being awkwardly big (unlike my 700ml snow peak), but still big enough to boil the appropriate amount of water for meals. I typically use Mountain House Pro Pack which require 14oz/414ml of water, so this pot hits the bullseye for those. The regular MH options use 16oz/473ml, so this would still be fine! For a visual reference, 500ml brings the water to about 1/2in from the top. As has probably been mentioned before, it's size also allows a 100g fuel canister to comfortably nest inside and also for the pot to nest on the bottom of a 1L Nalgene bottle. Nice space saving features. Compared to Snow Peak's product, the metal might be a weeeeeeee bit thinner, but hardly noticeable and I suppose it makes the pot lighter. I like the vents in the lid to let out steam, and the handles on mine have a good tightness about them to keep them out instead of flopping around. The carrying bag is nice, but not the device used to cinch it, which is difficult to open. I probably won't use the bag in the field anyhow. My new favorite for solo backpacking
Toaks Titanium 550 ml cup: My new favorite for solo backpacking.., Nov. 18, 2014 I love my stainless steel "Alpine" cup but I am trying to reduce the weight of my backpack so I bought the Toaks Titanium 450 ml cup. The Toaks 450 is a great cup for drinking but it is smaller than I had expected so I ordered the Toaks Titanium 550 ml cup and to my surprise the 550 cup (including the lid) weighs less than the Toaks 450 ml cup which has no lid because the 450 ml cup is made from 0.0215 inch thick metal and the metal of the 550 ml cup is only 0.0134 inch thick. The Toaks 550 is only slightly smaller than the stainless steel Alpine cup but it weighs less than half as much and it's perfect for boiling up to 2 cups of water. A JetBoil or a Primus fuel canister fit nicely in the Toaks 550 or without the lid, a Powerade or Gatorade or nalgene bottle can nest in the Toaks 550. The lid for the Toaks 550 has a two position wire handle, it can lay flat against the lid or raise the handle and slide it to the side and it will stand up, but I am not terribly happy with the Toaks 550 lid. The fit is so precise that you can lift the empty cup by the lid's handle, but this means that the lid can not simply be set on the cup; the cup must be held as the lid is pressed into place and I am concerned that if the cup should ever be bent, a definite possibility when carried for days in a backpack, the lid may no longer fit. :Weights Toaks Titanium Cup, 550 ml (w/o Lid) 1.90 oz. The perfect camp cup
Perfect lightweight titanium cup. The 550ml volume is ample for beverages of your choice. It heats quickly over a stove and cools down quickly enough not to burn your lips. It's very versatile as both a lightweight cook kit or as part of a nesting system.

I've only tested this at home so far but it seems like a great little pot/cup. The pot weighs 53g and the lid 17g for a total 70g versus the tag specification of 72g. Always a nice surprise if things are lighter. The orange mesh stuff sack with drawstring and cord lock weighs 10g. The mesh is well chosen for cushioning with low weight. I had wondered if the pot walls would be too thin for durability but I'm confident it will be fine with care. The pot measures 100mm at the rolled top lip (outside diameter), 95mm through the body (OD, as specified) and 80mm high (as specified). Internal diameter is 85mm; a 110g/4oz canister fits inside perfectly. So it's slightly squat, which is what I wanted, both for stability and low spoon angle. Bonus: it will be great with a short handled spoon. The lid isn't a tight fit which is fine with boiling liquid, and the lid tab lock groove works well so you can easily lift the lid for a peek. With a measured 500mL water to test, there was a little space at the top so 550mL is capacity to the brim. All up, it seems like a well-considered unit for minimalist solo trips. ... show more
