Description

The Black Pro-Mist offers all the benefits of the Pro-Mist filter in a more subtle form. With this filter, highlight flares are controlled, contrast is lowered, but with less lightening of shadows for a more delicate effect and it also creates a soft light "pastel" effect. This is a very delicate effect with contained highlight flare. This Hollywood/FX filters was originally designed for the TV and Motion Picture industry, but are now available to all photographers and videographers.

Hands down the best mist filters out there. A lot of brands try to do the same thing but from my 15+ years of using these and handful of others, they can’t come close to Tiffens! nice to meet you Purchased in November 2021. But only then did I realize that something was wrong. I bought 2 black mist filters (1/2, 1/4). But a few days ago, while talking to someone else, "This is not a 1/2 black mist filter, it's a regular UV filter?" When I looked at the 1/4 black mist filter, the word black mist was written next to the filter, but the filter I believed to be 1/2 had only "UV" written on it. I have been curious about this kind of filter for a long time, but unsure if it would really be needed because I use editing software for my photos where I want full control and was concerned this would give me an effect I'd be stuck with, when I could otherwise just add the effect in as desired with software. But it was the glow around lights that caused me to try it and after just one night of testing, I'm definitely glad I bought it. It's a great combo, and for the right uses the 1/2 filter is great but for the most part is kind of abrasive/extra. This is just what you need if you want to give a more organic look to your films/videos. It diffuses light and softens textures as well as the skin. I would only recommend it with a full-frame camera, otherwise it would look low quality. If you want to give your videos a ‘film’ look, use this filter, reduce the contrast and don’t use too much depth of field. Add some grain in post and there you have it. ... show more

This filter arrived used, with watermarks all over the glass and the box obviously being opened before. As for the filter quality: I found the 1/2 strength too strong for my a7s3 with 16-35mm f2.8 lens. The autofocus also struggled heavily with this filter as well. I now own the 1/8 filter and believe it does just enough to take off the digital edge of my images without causing any issues with focusing. The 1/4 could be a good option for those going for a very stylized picture, but know that it will struggle with sunlight behind the subject as everything will be blown out and I have also heard reports of autofocus issues as well on the 1/4. The dreamy effect and film look which I was going for was much better achieved in a program like Dehancer where you can add bloom and halation to video in post. It’s much more accurate to recreating film and doesn’t take much effort either. ... show more
