I had been searching for a pair of quality black boots for months and finally decided on the Thursday Captain in Matte Black. It is incredibly difficult to find this style of high-quality boot available in wide selections that can accommodate someone who wears a 3E (EEE) width. This availability is what initially sold me, though I was still hesitant to buy them online without trying them on, especially considering the price and potential break-in period. Initial Impression & Fit: The shipping was fast. Out of the box, the boots were definitely snug across the ball of my foot, but they felt instantly high-quality. I spent several weeks walking around the house to start the break-in process. The Defect & Customer Service: During the break-in, I developed an uncomfortable feeling in the bottom of my left foot while walking. It felt like constantly stepping on a rock, as the lugs on the sole were pushing through the footbed. I contacted Thursday Boots and explained the issue. The representative was excellent—they requested photos to share with the production staff to diagnose the cause. To my surprise and great satisfaction, they sent me a replacement pair of boots free of charge. Final Assessment: The replacement pair was flawless. It took a few weeks of consistent wear to fully break them in, but once they molded to my feet, they felt fantastic. Look: They look great and sharp. Comfort: They are comfortable for walking and feel durable. Fit for Wide Feet: The fact that they offer a wide option for a 3E (EEE) foot is a game-changer. The initial snugness gives way to a truly comfortable fit after the break-in. I am extremely pleased with both the quality of the replacement boots and the exceptional customer service from Thursday. The positive experience was so significant that I have since purchased another pair of boots from this company. It makes me confident in purchasing from them again.

This was my second attempt at a pair of Thursdays. My first was the Dukes on the old RT3 last. These Captains came on the new Kingmaker, which is rounder. I don’t wear the Dukes because of too much pressure on the tops of the toe box, a problem which unfortunately seems to replicate itself here, despite having ordered a different boot, in a different size, made on a different last. But, I can’t fault the obviously high quality and build of this product. So I will speak to that first. I loved the workmanship on the Captains. I ordered these in Arizona Adobe. The leather was beautiful, thick, and durable. I would agree with other recent reviewers that it was definitely more of a chocolate brown than the burnt orange that is pictured. Some folks have theorized that a certain batch of Arizona Adobe leather came in darker that others this time, and that this batch just needs to work its way through the product line. If you’re looking for something closer to the burnt orange pictured, try another color or wait until other folks (or the company itself) can attest to a batch that more closely matches the Arizona Adobe pictured. That all being said, I actually liked the chocolate brown these turned out to be, so your mileage may vary. Regarding construction, there’s no question they would hold up to years of hard wear, the studded sole is tough and the leather remarkably scuff resistant. Laces felt strong and durable. Welt was clean and there were no errant stitches that I could find anywhere on the boot. The rubber studded sole was beautiful and high quality. The quarters seemed a little flimsy, I was expecting something similar to cowboy boot quarters which are often firmer leather or reinforced with plastic, but these felt more like dress shoe quarters to me. Obviously in a boot like this, and any shoe really, your heel doesn’t bend or flex or move much compared to your instep and forefoot, so the need for super tough heel quarters may be unnecessary, I only mention it because it felt strange given the heavier duty feeing about the rest of the boot. Apart from that, craftsmanship was truly punching above its weight class on these, and they represent a great value on construction quality alone. The problem, and it’s why I returned them, is the shape and design of the last does not work for my feet for some reason. I’m a 10.5E on a Brannock device but I fit a 10D in most shoes and cowboy boots with a few exceptions depending on the boot maker. 10.5D in Vans. I followed Thursday’s recommendation of sizing a half size down and ordered a 10D. The resulting fit was appropriate for most of my foot. They fit well everywhere, perhaps even a little wide in the midfoot. Heel felt comfortably snug despite my reservations about the quarters. The issue is the toe box. I can feel the toe box with the tops of my toes and it exerts a mild to medium but constant pressure on them. I’ve had trouble with ingrown nails in the past and after a few days, my toes just hurt and I start to feel that if I keep wearing them, my ingrown nail issues will return. Maybe I have abnormally large Big Toes on both feet, but this issue is usually not a problem with other shoes in similar sizes, including multiple pairs of Dan Post and Capitan cowboy boots with R toes and cutter toes respectively. Never had a problem. Going a half size larger with these, (as I did with my other Thursdays Dukes) makes my foot swim in the boots, they are much too large. Half size down or wide size wouldn’t fix a toe box that isn’t tall enough. The only thing I can chalk it down to is that the shape of the last just doesn’t work for my feet. Every bootmaker and shoe maker has different lasts around which they build their shoes to make a consistent product across multiple size and width configurations. I’m sure last development is very difficult, and based on the huge number of five star reviews on these things, Thursday has obviously created a great product that works well for a lot of people. I wish they had worked for me. I suspect I might have more luck with the heavier duty models that come with lug soles and puff toes, but I find lug soles unfashionable for my sense of style. It may just be that I’m out of luck on Thursdays. I really wanted to like these and to have them work out, but for that reason I had to return them.

I wear a size 11 in almost every piece of footwear I own. I originally didn’t head the advice of sizing down a half size on these. Tried 11 and they were definitely too big. 10.5 fits perfectly. I find myself needing the wide (EE) size for Thursday sneakers but these boots in the normal width feel fine for my feet. Not too cramped and not too roomy (as far as width is concerned). Just right. There is a little extra length of room at toe because of the slight point but not enough where I think I’m going to trip. I never order wide sizes other for Thursday sneakers. Very well made. Insane value boot. No problems with traction so far. Break in period is almost non existent. Very comfortable to wear for long walks. Even did some short hikes with them. Very high quality laces with the speed hooks making putting them on and taking them off very quick and easy. Would definitely recommend. I ordered a different pair in another color too. These are Arizona Adobe and are a bit darker than they might arrive as because of the Cobblers Choice leather conditioner I applied to it earlier this week. Hope this helps someone out there.

Got these about a week ago. I purchase the olive and black coffee. I love both of those. They fit well and are very comfortable. I was a big fan of Johnston Murphy. I think I may still have purchase about more then 10 pairs of their boots. The quality was good until it stop being good and the leather started to crack and break, the boots falls apart if you trek in a puddle. So looking forward to seeing how long the Thursday Boots last. The reason for the 4 stars is the olive boot was delivered with a gouge on the welt. Not a deal breaker but maybe better quality control before shipping. I really needed the boot so did not want to send it back and have to wait for a replacement. Other than that, great boots for the price. So far, I am liking both the coffee and olive boots very much.

I can't give the best review for these products yet, but I can at least tell you my process. I originally got these boots in an 11. I wear boots and the majority of them are all 11. They seemed a little large and felt sloppy walking in. I've gotten a 10 to half now and they felt like a glove and our stellar. They definitely are going to need more time to break in but I have really high hopes for these. The leather on them and the stitching is high quality as well as the staining and the color. I really like it and even the laces are plush and seem durable. Definitely loving the look. I was going for something casual but also business and these boots grabbed it perfectly. This is my first pair owning a friend referred me to them and I'm excited to see how they will hold up. They definitely feel like it's going to take a lot and they're going to last a while.

I finally succumbed to the nonstop barrage of Thursday Boots ads on Facebook and YouTube, and I’m glad I did. Bought mine through Amazon Prime rather than Thursday’s website because Prime has faster shipping (delivered SAME DAY!). Plus Amazon doesn’t charge $4 extra for the shipping box, which is what Thursday charges with their “free” shipping. Admittedly, when the boots arrived I was somewhat underwhelmed. Out of the box, they look very generic and monochromatic. No personality whatsoever. But once you put them on and walk around in them, the leather begins to crease and lighter-colored undertones emerge, giving the boots a vintage patina that’s really beautiful. You can intensify those tonal variations by taking the boots off and bending and squishing them. Conceptually, the boots are in kind of a no-man’s land. They’re not heavy-duty enough to be hardcore construction boots like Nick’s or White’s boots and they’re not refined enough to be classified as dress boots. Instead they strike a really nice balance. My wife loves the way mine look on me, saying they look rugged and manly yet classy enough to wear out on the town or to the office. (She hates the construction worker or Shawshank vibe of most of my boots!) I’d initially ordered two pair of Captains: in Arizona Adobe and Terracota. I initially liked the color of the Terracotas better but construction-wise, the Arizona Adobes seemed like they were of higher quality. When compared to the Adobes, the Terracotas used thinner leather for the uppers and the eyelets and speed hooks seemed haphazardly installed, leaving sharp-edge rivets on the backside of the uppers that started tearing up the tongue the first time I laced the boots up. I preferred the antiqued brass eyelets on the Terracotas over than the chrome used on the Adobes, but ultimately returned the Terracotas for the aforementioned reasons, though both versions were equally comfortable right out of the box. Also, as mentioned earlier, once the undertones of the Adobes began to reveal themselves, I was thrilled choice. Oddly, the Adobes were packaged in a much sturdier box than the Terracotas. Checking out Thursday’s website explained why: the Terracotas are an older version of the Captains and were packaged in a different box. The Adobes had a few other refinements the Terracotas did not get. OVERALL: Outstanding quality, fashionable, and durable for 3+ years (and still going strong). These are a casual wear boot that won't disappoint. These are the best footwear I've ever owned. They are stylish as hell and durable. I wore them 6 or 7 days a week for 3 years, and received compliments the entire time I wore them. I wore them during the day as an office worker. I wore them with a suit and tie for formal occasions and weddings. I wore them running around city streets for 10+ hours at a stretch. I wore them walking on beaches, and through grass, on gravel, on playgrounds, and more. I wore them on trains, planes, and in cars. I wore them in scorching heat, humidity, dry heat, pounding rain, snow, and bone-chilling cold. These boots don't care; they're comfy in heat and cold, and your feet won't get wet in the rain or when slogging through the occasional shallow puddle. After 3 years, they only have a few minor scuffs, some creases, new laces, and worn out soles (which can be replaced by a cobbler) to show for it. Hell, it'll probably be another 3 years until I even THINK about replacing them. They will last IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. These are leather boots. They require oiling and polishing to keep the leather supple, to keep the leather from cracking, to protect the color, and to protect the boots from scuffs. I oil and polish mine once a month, and they're holding up great. They won't be very comfortable when you first get them. They will be dry and stiff. You won't be able to run in them because the ankle won't be flexible. They will chafe a bit. This is because they are leather, and you need to break them in. Oil them with mink oil every few days and wear them constantly until they become supple enough to run in. Over time, the leather and cork footbed will conform to your feet and ensure a custom fit. So, when you first receive them, check to make sure they fit. If they fit, care for them and give it two weeks -- they'll probably be comfy as heck by then. Sock choice is also important. Because they're thick leather and because oiling them will make them water resistant, cotton socks will probably chafe and become sweaty after a couple hours. So, go either for wool or synthetic socks to wick moisture away from your feet and to prevent chafing. I wear hiking socks; they work great. My feet get a little warm in hot weather, but they don't feel damp. So, I really can't recommend these boots enough. I convinced a friend to get the womens' version, and she also raves about them. If you want a versatile casual/business-wear boot, just do it. Your feet and wardrobe will thank you.

Purchased these in brown, 11M. The brown color of this boot also appears burgundy, something I'm not exactly excited about, but oh well. These boots in the brown leather requires a break-in period. I estimate from about 1 to 2 weeks. I wore these about the house to break them in. The tongue of the boot gave me the most problems initially because the sort of dun into my shins on both legs (day 1 only.) Now I have to adjust the tongue every so often because they tend to slide towards my small toe on both feet. The craftsmanship of the boot is very good, while the materials themselves are good. The Thursday Boot Company has some sizing issues that they need to sort out internally. It is recommended that customers purchase a 1/2 smaller than their sneaker size. Hhhhmmmm, confusing. Nike fit narrow; Asics fit true to size; Fila run a whole size smaller; etc. I purchased my normal shoe size, and the issue is in the boots sizing themselves. I also own the Thursday President in 11M, black and the sizing is correct with a good snug fit. My Thursday Captain Boots are correct length wise, but off width wise. The Captain and President are essentially the same boot built on the same platform, with the President having a plain toe. My suggestion, try before you buy; and DO NOT crease the boots during your try on period. The foot bed is NOT removable, but if they came with removable inserts, I would be able to make this boot sneaker like comfortable. I wish the foot beds were removable. The supplied and permanent footbed is adequate, and I am sure that they will form more to my feet as time passes. There is a lot of hype surrounding these boots. Hype is just someone else's opinion. I consider these to be a good mid-level entry boot based on pricing, quality and construction. The best boots are the boots you can a. afford, and b. enjoy, like or love. Are these good boots for the money? I would have to say yes! Are they comfortable? I would have to say yes, but they are NOT my most comfortable boots, or necessarily my main go to boot. They are a pair of boots that have been added to my rotation, and they will get used based on me and my outfits. They will be a boot that I wear all year round in my rotation. Personally, I like and enjoy my President's more. The President also weighs a little less because of the outer soles. Based my personal opinion and concerns surrounding the boot, I gave it 4 stars. I would recommend this boot to those looking for a boot in this price range or higher. Overall, I like the boot.
