Description

Tailor-made for the upland bird hunter’s needs, our Flyway Waterproof 8″ Briar Pitstop full-grain leather hunting boots are part of the 1957 Series. Thorogood Boots are meticulously crafted using top-quality American leathers, ensuring both style and durability that can withstand the rigorous demands of today’s job-sites. Combining classic styling with modern technology, these boots are made to exceed the avid upland bird hunter’s requirements with a removable cushioned footbed for all-day comfort, a breathable Cosmo waterproof membrane to keep your feet dry and blister-free, a rubber midsole for shock absorption with every step, and Goodyear welt construction that will deliver years of durable wear. Don’t miss your shot due to tired, wet feet in heavy boots clogged with mud – the simple yet effective “cellular wedge” directional pattern of the lightweight outsole resists mud and slipping so you can flush and shoot with confidence all day long.

  • Comfort!!!
Color: Briar Pitstop Size: 11.5
This boot is by far the most comfortable boot out of the box I've ever had. I had the same exact style in a pair of Red Wings and it's honestly not even close. I see a few reviews mentioning a tough break in but they can't be speaking of the same boot. Out of the box these boots feel like moccasin slippers. I can't speak of their longevity yet but my previous pair of 8" Thorgood "Crazy Horse" went about 3 years and one resole before I decided to buy this pair. ... show more

Once you wear the boots a few times to loosen the leather and break them in, they are awesome boots!

  • Break in is tough but there are rewards.

This is another good solid Thorogood boot. I'm comparing them with my first pair of Thorogood American Heritage wedge soles (see picture) Over all i think you are getting good quality materials and sturdy construction though they might be a bit overpriced compared to other options. My biggest complaint is the lining. I prefer an unlined boot and Thorogood has some unlined options which are great but I needed something warm and waterproof for a construction assignment in New York. These seemed to be the way to go as i had a good experience with their unlined wedge sole boots. Day one putting them on you immediately feel that thick waterproof lining. The tongue especially bunches up making it difficult to contour around your ankle. I got a crease in the middle that made a bit of a pressure point running up and down the front of my ankle causing some pain. However with some time breaking them in and adjusting my lacing pattern that problem has largely disappeared and they are much more comfortable now. That lining seems to be very effective at keeping water out but, as with all waterproof linings, you sacrifice breathability and your feet will sweat in these just like any other waterproof boot. Also the lining has a seam that runs up the back of of the uppers where your heel rubs. Again break in has largely made this a non-issue however I'm concerned that that seam will fail under the constant rubbing of the heel as there is no internal counter cover to protect it. On to fit. I have short wide feet and the toe box on these is feels noticably longer and narrower than their plain toe options. In my other Thorogoods i bought an 8.5 wide, which was still kind of long for me. In these i bought an 8 wide and they are definitely longer and narrower. That may have to do with the fact that they are Moc toe. Over all i am satisfied with them. The foot bed is very nice and comfy. Thorogoods always come with nice inserts. The sole could be a little grippier in my opinion but they get the job done and they don't pick up tons of mud. They are kind of marketed as an upland hunting boot but for that i would rather have something like a Kenetrek boot. But as a Fall/winter work boot they work great. ... show more

  • Minimal break in time
Color: Briar Pitstop Size: 11.5
Break in time went very fast. I got these less than 2 weeks before deer season. I wore them around the house and the yard for a few hours a day. They seemed to just form themselves to the shape of my feet. I have rheumatoid arthritis so my feet are fairly sensitive. If they get messed up they could be sore for days. I am very slow to recover if I get hurt or over do it. I am sure that those of you with normal joints will have a faster break in time. The soles are not good for pavement or concrete. The tread creates some hot spots when standing or walking on hard surfaces. Could be just me and my RA though. Out in the field, they performed great. Good traction. Loved the ankle support walking on sidehills. All this and made in the USA! ... show more

  • Great boots,funky tongue
Color: Briar Pitstop Size: 11.5
Boots are well made and solid, durable, waterproof, comfortable after break in. But for boots so well made the tongue is a big floppy mess.
